00:00Mortal Shell 2 is a game about a ripped monster man, who looks like they'd just wandered off
00:04the set of Prometheus. This fellow likes to leap into and possess special corpses, the
00:08mortal shells of the title, to spy on their memories and play with their superpowers.
00:12Amazingly, it only gets weirder from there. More importantly, it's also great fun, and
00:17a superior sequel to Mortal Shell in almost every way. True, it's yet another soulslike
00:22that's copied a lot of FromSoftware's homework. So, melee combat is brutal but supremely satisfying,
00:27dying means you only get one chance to collect all your levelling up currency, it's a dark
00:31fantasy world that's seen better days, but this sequel makes inspired changes immediately.
00:36The game is dense with ideas, and more accessible than its predecessor, but it's not perfect.
00:40With a camera that doesn't always behave itself, it's also a little too easy to break the difficulty,
00:45and Nightfall mode makes navigation frustrating. Overall, Mortal Shell 2 is the most pleasant
00:50gaming surprise of the year. It doesn't challenge the almighty Elden Ring's throne, well does,
00:54but it's a terrific tribute act with plenty of its own merits.
