Check out this heartwarming rescue as a hermit crab gets a much better home after being found using a plastic bottle lid as its shell.

Mia Chandler, from Carlisle, UK, spotted the tiny crab while in the Maldives and noticed it had resorted to using a discarded plastic bottle lid for protection.

The video shows the unusual little crab carrying the makeshift shell before Mia carefully offers it a proper shell.

The crab eventually crawls out of the plastic lid and moves into its new natural home, giving it a much safer and more suitable shell.

Mia said she was happy to find the crab a new shell and give the little creature a chance to leave the plastic behind.
