Second Ukrainian arrested in connection with Nord Stream pipeline explosions

Prosecutors say the objective of the alleged attack on the Nord Stream pipelines was to "permanently disrupt gas supplies" and to stop Russia from using the revenue to finance its war effort in Ukraine.

00:01A Ukrainian national was arrested on Wednesday in Croatia on suspicion of involvement in the
00:08September 2022 explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipeline. According to German prosecutors,
00:15the person arrested is a trained scuba diver who was part of a group of individuals who planted
00:21explosives on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2. He was strongly suspected of jointly causing
00:27explosions, anti-constitutional sabotage and destruction of buildings and structures there
00:33added. The undersea gas pipeline was linking Russia to Germany to carry Russian natural gas
00:40under the Baltic Sea. The incident had heightened tensions over the war in Ukraine at a time when
00:47Europe was seeking to end its dependence on Russian fossil fuels. According to prosecutors, the aim of
00:54these explosions was to prevent Moscow from profiting from its energy revenues. Russia had accused the
