00:00He doesn't support the needs of the people in the community, and he doesn't respect the needs of Chicago as
00:06a whole.
00:09He's chosen to stand on the side of military-backed billionaires.
00:15If Quantum Facility has the support of the mayor, he has lost the support of the people.
00:22We are Code Pink Chicago here at the Community Over Quantum meeting here on the southeast side of Chicago.
00:27Hearing from residents who are opposing the building of the Quantum Shore, an international public-private effort to build the
00:34world's first quantum computing campus of this size, includes data centers, but that won't be the extent of it.
00:40Israeli companies are investing and leasing parts of it, and the Department of War has a huge stake in it
00:45as well.
00:46But the biggest part of the funding comes from the Illinois taxpayers, like me, but also everyone who is at
00:54this meeting, which was in the hundreds.
00:56Here in South Shore, the eviction capital of Chicago, residents are asking for their needs to be invested in instead
01:02of a quantum facility that can cause environmental damage, noise pollution, toxic waste in Lake Michigan, and displacement.
01:11Electricity bills are already going up astronomically for the residents of this neighborhood, and the tech will be used to
01:16comb through our data.
01:17And they're saying they won't use Lake Michigan's water, but why would they build it right on Lake Michigan if
01:22they weren't planning on using the water?
01:24The meeting was great. It was really inspiring to see so many people come out against the quantum facility.
01:31And Mayor Brandon Johnson was here, and he gave pretty unsatisfactory answers and pretty quickly left the meeting.
01:38So we're here demanding that Chicago rejects the quantum class and invest in the South Side instead of tech for
01:46war, imperialism, and surveillance.
