00:00Jake Moody's going home, too, right?
00:01Well, I mean, we talked about this yesterday.
00:04I said, I hope Jake Moody is a renter, not a buyer.
00:06And from the way his pro career has started, he should continue that trend.
00:12He loses the kicking competition to Drew Stevens.
00:16I thought it was a little early, but I guess they just want to give him all the reps.
00:19They've seen enough.
00:21They saw enough from Moody to say, bye-bye.
00:24No, that doesn't mean that Stevens is going to be the kicker throughout the season.
00:28If there's been one constant with the Commanders, it's been churn at the kicking position.
00:33Commanders fans have got to be really patient because he's an undrafted rookie kicker,
00:38and he's never kicked in the NFL.
00:41He's got to be patient with him.
00:42He's got a big leg.
00:43He's got a big leg.
00:44I kind of disagree.
00:45I don't know if they have to be that patient because you can just bring in another guy to compete
00:48with Stevens.
00:49Well, I'm just saying, if he misses one kick in the first game.
00:51I mean, kind of what they've been doing, Kix, that plan doesn't really work out great.
00:55Are you going to use 17 different kickers?
00:57They're kind of on that sort of cycle.
00:59No, they're going to go with Drew for a while, unless he's god-awful through five weeks.
01:04But I'm sure they track every kick.
01:05I mean, we know that they track every pass that Jaden Daniels has made,
01:09whether it's in training camp or during actual games.
01:13And I'm sure they do that, even though we'll get reports that they took six kicks.
01:18And that's when they have a rush coming at them, and it's in practice, 11 on 11.
01:24But they're taking kicks throughout the day, so I'm sure they track it all.
01:27How did things go so poorly for Jake Moody?
01:30Wasn't he a third-round pick?
01:32Yes.
01:32He was a third-round pick.
01:33Think about burning third-round draft capital on a kicker and it not working out.
01:39Well, what's the percentage of third-round picks that don't work out?
01:41Probably 60% to 70%.
01:43Well, because the first-round picks is like 50%.
01:46Yeah, but it's one thing if you draft.
01:46I'm talking about drafting a kicker.
01:48If you draft an offensive lineman in the third round, all right, he might be a backup
01:52and then eventually he's not on the team.
01:53But when you draft a kicker in the third round.
01:55It's insane to pick a kicker in the third round.
01:56You pretty much think he's a lock.
01:58I mean, the only thing wackier was the Raiders drafting Sebastian Janikowski in the first round
02:04about 25, 30 years ago.
02:06He had a pretty good career.
02:07May not have been with the first round or be a pretty good career.
02:09Yeah, I mean, you just didn't want to hang out in a bar with him if you're a woman.
02:12Probably not.
02:13Probably wasn't a great call.
02:15I don't know.
02:16I feel bad for him.
02:17I thought he did pretty good last year, right?
02:19Was he like 18 for 21?
02:20Something like that.
02:21His numbers were pretty good.
02:22And then he got up, I think, by all accounts, he was like 9 for 9 to start training camp
02:27the
02:27first few days or whatever.
02:29It's the leg.
02:29And then just hit a bad streak.
02:31It's the leg.
02:31Because if you think about it, when you play the Cowboys, you know that they have a weapon at kicker.
02:38And the commanders haven't had that.
02:40So when you have that guy who can hit a 60-yarder, it's a major advantage.
02:45It's not to say he's going to hit all 60-yarders, but you have the possibility of hitting those 60
02:50-yard kicks.
02:51And Moody didn't really give you that.
02:52Yep.
02:53I don't disagree.
02:54But, you know, you watch.
02:55He'll resurface somewhere.
02:57Somebody will get the shot.
02:58Oh, yeah.
02:58He'll resurface.
02:59I'm sure he will.
03:00Yeah, that's the nature of the beast.
03:01I know what he's not.
03:03He's not very good at his job.
03:05That I do know.
03:05Man, Cakes has real hostility towards kickers.
03:09I like kickers.
03:10I'm a kicker defender.
03:11I'm just being honest here.
03:13He's not very good at what he does.
03:14He's already been on three teams since he was drafted in 2023.
03:18He hasn't been successful.
03:20Correct.
03:20Yeah.
03:21Well, anyway, they're going to go with...
03:22It could be mental.
03:23Who knows?
03:23I mean, maybe it's in his head.
03:24Oh, I'm sure there's a mental component to it.
03:26His confidence level is probably shot.
03:28It's the nature of the job.
03:30Drew Stevens, in four years at Iowa, went 76 for 95.
03:34Yeah.
03:34And missed a total of two extra points.
03:38Now, the extra points in college are about from me to Mitch over there.
03:41Yeah.
03:41But, yeah, he was 76 for 95.
03:44I'm not sure how many of those were 50-plus misses, but he's getting his opportunity, man.
03:50I'm not surprised that Stevens won.
03:52I was kind of surprised that they made it with two preseason games.
03:54Yeah.
03:55Maybe they just want to give him the prep so that he knows he's the guy, he could pregame
03:59and all that and just go through the deal, the rituals of being the guy.
04:05And then it also gives Moody a chance to get picked up somewhere else.
04:08So, a courtesy, I guess.
04:09Yeah.
04:10So, they did move on.
04:11What percentage of teams have first-year undrafted kickers, rookie kickers?
04:17Not very many.
04:19I mean, there's got to be a lot of just veterans that have been there for a while.
04:25Well, obviously, they have confidence.
04:26Or multiple teams.
04:27I don't know.
04:28They like them, though.
04:28But it could be a difference maker for this team where, at the end of a game, you get the
04:33ball back.
04:33You just need to get the ball to maybe the opponent's 45.
04:37Yeah.
04:37You get it to the 45, you line up for a 62-yard field goal.
04:40And Moody would have had no prayer at that.
04:43And Stevens, from all reports, it's not to say he's going to make it, but would have a
04:47shot at it.
04:47He's got the leg to do it.
04:49We'll see.
04:50We'll see how it plays out.
04:51I'm hopeful.
04:52I don't know.
04:52We'll see how it plays out.
04:53Yeah.
04:53I mean, look, the odds are, if you were to bet, will Stevens be their kicker in week
04:5917?
05:00Look at Cakes' face.
05:02I'm just going to bet on history that he's not going to be.
05:06It's a safe bet.
05:07But that's their hope.
05:09Their hope is they have their Brandon Aubrey.
05:11That would be great if they found their kicking weapon.
05:14And it's a position of stability for this team for three or four years.
05:19It'll be interesting to see if, in the first couple weeks against Philly or Dallas,
05:24you know, they're down, they're tied, or they're down three late in the game, and they're going
05:29to throw out a rookie kicker on the road to try and tie it or win it.
05:33That'll be interesting to see.
05:34I think you have to.
05:35You have to have faith.
05:36Yeah.
05:36They made their choice.
05:38It's going to be Stevens, not Jake Moody.
05:41And hopefully, he will deliver for them.
05:44Did you guys happen to see, I know I may throw this at Klaus, Josh Harris interviewed in the
05:51last week or so, and when he was asked about the possibility of maybe designing the new stadium
05:57such that they could bring in real grass.
06:01Did you see that interview?
06:02And he did say that they're looking at all possibilities.
06:05And I don't know, maybe he's a good salesman, but he made me think, like, it's on the table.
06:09Yeah, but didn't Seattle just do that, too, where they all kind of tease you that it's
06:14a possibility, that grass can be a possibility, and it's unlikely.
06:17He didn't.
06:18Listen, he said there's extra obstacles, but he did say that it's getting easier and easier
06:23to do it with technology, you know, every year.
06:26So, it's certainly on the table.
06:28I mean, I wouldn't bet on it happening, but he sold me on the idea that it might.
06:32I would assume the major hurdle there is just the cost of it.
06:35It's got to be much more expensive to keep and maintain and replace.
06:39They can survive.
06:41They make enough money.
06:42I'm totally with you.
06:44They've already valued the commanders at, he bought it for $6, right?
06:48Yeah, $6.05 billion.
06:49I think they've already valued it at $9.3 billion.
06:51Oh, that makes sense.
06:52Because Seahawks just sold for around that same number.
06:54Of $3 billion.
06:54Yeah, that's pretty good.
06:55Of the four fields behind us, aren't they all turf?
07:00I just walked out there.
07:01They all look to be turf.
07:02Maybe there's one that's grass, and it's just cut very short.
07:05I'm pretty sure they're turf.
07:06No have idea.
07:07Never been on those fields.
07:08I've seen them before, but I've never been on them.
07:10JP's wrong.
07:11They're all grass.
07:12They're all grass?
07:12Yeah.
07:13Man, they look like turf.
07:14That's how well-
07:15I mean, they play their home games on natural grass.
07:17It would make sense for them to practice on the same surface.
07:19Here's the good news about turf, though, especially to be an indoor, and I know
07:22Drabby's not into indoors.
07:23That's what our kicking situation is.
07:25Hopefully, we're still alive when that stadium opens in four years or whatever.
07:29God willing.
07:30God willing, we're alive to watch those games.
07:33Fingers crossed.
07:34I believe our kicking situation suddenly, it's just going to be amazing.
07:38Because we're going to be indoors.
07:3972 and Sunday.
07:40Probably going to be on turf.
07:41Yeah.
07:41Yeah.
07:42That'd be great.
07:43Suddenly, we're going to be in kicking heaven.
07:45You watch.
07:45It's going to be four years away.
07:46Four years too late for Jake Moody.
07:48Yeah.
07:49Four years too late for Jake Moody.
07:50He'll come back.
07:51I'm sure he's going to come back.
07:53He'll come back with another team.
07:55Yeah.
07:55He'll visit maybe the commander's new stadium.
07:58I love Cakes' face when you mention certain people.
08:01Like, if it's Shador Sanders' face, it's just this disgust.
08:04Or Angel Reese is one of your new targets.
08:07And who were we talking about yesterday?
08:08I don't even know.
08:09Once Cakes decides, it's over for you.
08:11There's no coming back.
08:13Well, all I am is right in basically every aspect.
08:16Okay.
08:17Okay.
08:17All right.
08:18You guys keep watching Angel Reese and tell me she's a great basketball player.
08:22Nobody's saying that.
08:22You won't find a person on the planet.
08:24You won't find a person on the planet.
08:24Keep trying to feed me that propaganda.
08:25You won't find a person on the planet.
08:26Don't worry.
08:26I don't watch her.
08:27So I couldn't tell you the way.
08:28Trust me.
08:29I've only seen highlights.
08:31Or lowlights.
08:32Yeah.
08:33This is interesting.
08:34I was just browsing ESPN.com.
08:36And they did the power rankings for all the NFL teams for the future.
08:41Okay.
08:41The three-year window.
08:43The 2027 through the 2029 season.
08:45Yeah.
08:45Now, this is not the power rankings that has like 28 for this year.
08:49No.
08:49That was NFL.com.
08:50Slightly better, EB.
08:51Yeah, slightly.
08:52They have the Seattle Seahawks one.
08:55Drabby's very excited.
08:56He loves that.
08:56He's got the Eagles two, right?
08:58Philadelphia's two.
08:59We've got Philly two.
08:59And then Detroit's three.
09:01Yada, yada, yada.
09:02So best three-year windows.
09:04Baltimore, I think, was nine.
09:05And I kept thinking.
09:06Okay.
09:07He's got a young stud quarterback if he's healthy.
09:09He should be top 12, 13.
09:10No.
09:1115.
09:11No.
09:1218.
09:1320.
09:13Number 20.
09:14They've got Washington 20 out of 32.
09:16That's top 20.
09:17Whatever.
09:18It could be worse.
09:20Look, I was surprised.
09:21I would have had him higher.
09:22If Jaden Ball's out, all of a sudden, there'll be nine.
09:24I know.
09:25I know.
09:26Well, that's what they say.
09:27Reason for concern.
09:28Everything surrounds Daniels.
09:30Yeah.
09:30And the offensive line.
09:32They do mention the offensive line.
09:33Yeah.
09:34And the age of the receivers.
09:35Their bold prediction.
09:37Or fearless forecast.
09:38Or whatever they call it.
09:40Has to do with Brandon Coleman playing well this year.
09:43And then flipping Brandon Coleman next year for draft capital.
09:49I mean.
09:50I don't know about that.
09:51What sort of draft capital are you going to get from Brandon?
09:53I mean, if he balls out.
09:55If he plays great.
09:56Isn't he more valuable to you?
09:58I was going to say, if he balls out, why would you trade a young tackle?
10:01Because Tunsell will return.
10:02Yeah, right.
10:03But you want back up.
10:03Play him on the other side.
10:04Don't you want like a swing tackle?
10:06You put him in guard.
10:07Play a guard.
10:08Yeah.
10:08Okay.
10:08You're different.
10:09You like killing the messenger.
10:10I'm just saying.
10:11I can read it for you.
10:12If you like.
10:13I believe you.
10:14I'm just saying that I'm not going to trade a pretty good offensive lineman if he develops
10:20into that for like a fifth round pick.
10:22No.
10:22Right.
10:22To me, that's losing.
10:24Well, I think the thought would be it's much better than a fifth round pick.
10:27Well, you let me know when a team calls Peters and offers better than a fifth round pick
10:33for any offensive lineman not named Laramie Tunsell or Josh Connerly.
10:38It's probably not going to happen.
10:39Here's the bold prediction.
10:40The commanders will trade Brandon Coleman for a nice return ahead of the 2027 season.
10:47Coleman will step in at left tackle while Laramie Tunsell recovers from his tricep surgery.
10:51Coleman has had a strong 90.7% pass block win rate at tackle over his career, including
10:58a 92.3% last season.
11:01Well, the bottom line is, is that they're somewhat optimistic on him filling in, you
11:06know, fine.
11:07And I think I am too, as a fan.
11:09So, you know, you don't want to ever lose a player like Laramie Tunsell, but I do think
11:14fortunately it happened with enough time they can kind of scheme around it, coach guys
11:17up, get everybody settled in.
11:19And I do think that Coleman's athletic enough that I think he'll fill in just fine.
11:23By the way, it's pointed out a lot.
11:24They thrive two seasons ago with Brandon Coleman at left tackle before Laramie Tunsell arrived.
11:28It's already been proven they can win 14 games with him largely at left tackle.
11:33So, uh...
11:34But I agree with Kix.
11:35I'd want to keep those young guys like Connerly and Coleman because Tunsell's not going to
11:39play until he's 40.
11:40Right.
11:40I would keep him too.
11:41Of course.
11:42Play him at guard if you need to.
11:43Or whatever.
11:44By the way, number 32.
11:46Number 32.
11:4732.
11:47The Browns.
11:48Browns.
11:49Cardinals.
11:50Cardinals.
11:50This is the three-year window.
11:52Yeah, it's the three-year window.
11:53The three-year window.
11:54So I guess they're not that high on Beck.
11:55By the way, we should start coming up with our sassy, bold predictions for the NFL season
12:01because we'll be doing that soon.
12:03Yeah.
12:03Within the next few weeks.
12:05You're going to think about that for two weeks, your bold prediction?
12:08Oh, yeah.
12:08I usually think about that during a commercial break.
12:10I'm going to let it marinate in my brain and try to come up with something.
12:14It doesn't mean it's going to be good or it's going to come true.
12:17My God, Kix.
12:18Hey, I'm thinking ahead, EB.
12:19That's a commercial break.
12:20I'm actually thinking ahead.
12:22Okay.
12:22All right.
12:23It's a tease, EB.
12:24All right.
12:24All right.
12:25All right.
12:26Speaking of teases, coming up on the show in just about an hour, head coach of the
12:30Commanders, Dan Quinn.
12:32He'll join us coming up at 745 and we'll be joined here by Commanders Punter Tressway.
12:38That's coming up at 8.
12:39Junkies on the road in Ashburn for Commanders training camp.
