00:00So The Athletic is reporting that Ohtani will not opt out.
00:03Even if Mark Walters sells the team, he will not opt out of his contract.
00:08His contract has a clause in it that states that if the Dodgers were to be sold
00:12during the length of time that Ohtani is under contract with LA,
00:15he would be able to opt out the following year and become a free agent.
00:20He's never going to do that.
00:22And the reason why he's not going to do that is Ohtani would be an idiot to do that.
00:27Because the reason why, one of the reasons, a big reason,
00:30why we are headed towards a lockout at the end of the CBA this year,
00:34it's because of Ohtani's contract.
00:37Because the Dodgers, including Ohtani's contract, have deferred $1.1 billion.
00:44And Ohtani joining LA, leaving the Angels, going up the road to LA,
00:50to the Dodgers from Anaheim, and determining,
00:52hey, I don't want to pay taxes in LA while I'm playing.
00:55So I'm going to take a $2 million chunk, and I'm going to defer everything else.
01:01And you guys are going to give me a Bobby Bonilla-type contract on steroids.
01:06And I'm going to be getting paid long after I leave California from the LA Dodgers.
01:13That type of contract is going to be squarely on the negotiating table to be banned.
01:20The owners don't want that anymore.
01:21The Dodgers have become very creative with the way that they structure their deals.
01:26And after one big deal, Ohtani, then we saw multiple other players,
01:31whether it be, you know, and Skubal will be the next one,
01:34if he's allowed to do it before the CBA expires.
01:37Skubal will be the next one to take big money and defer it,
01:41and not take as much money as he could get right away.
01:45Those contracts really have allowed the Dodgers to stockpile talent,
01:51that they just keep on adding more and more players and more and more money
01:55in the future that's owed because they feel very confident
01:58that they will be able to pay those contracts,
02:00and they've got the money to pay those contracts in the future.
02:03So that's why Ohtani is not going to be opting out anytime soon.
02:07He has no interest in opting out.
02:09Why would he ever opt out?
02:13This is a sweetheart of sweetheart deals.
02:16So yeah, no kidding.
02:19Ohtani says, oh no, I'm not going to opt out even if the Dodgers get sold.
02:23No, I've got a deal that nobody will ever get ever again in Major League Baseball.
02:30And if you want to point to why we are so sure that a lockout is coming
02:35or a strike is coming, just point to the Ohtani contract.
02:39It's not his fault, but it kind of is his fault.
02:44He's the reason why we are headed to this.
02:48It stinks, but that's just kind of the way that it is right now in baseball.
02:52I don't like it.
02:53Nobody likes it.
02:54I want to play baseball next year.
02:56But by all accounts, we are going to miss at least the start of the regular season,
03:01and we could very well miss the entire season of Major League Baseball.
03:05In fact, there are teams that are actively preparing for no baseball.
03:09In 2017, and maybe if it gets really crazy, we'll see how long it winds up lasting.
03:15But I can't imagine in June.
03:19I can't imagine in July having no baseball.
03:22Like, it's bad enough to have baseball, but could you imagine having no baseball?
03:27Kind of crazy, but it's not that wild to stop and think about it.
03:30Like, it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have
03:31baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to
03:31have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough
03:31to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad
03:31enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's
03:31bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but
03:31it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball,
03:31but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad enough to have
03:31baseball, but it's bad enough to have baseball, but it's bad
