00:02There is a minority, but an increasing and significant minority,
00:06of people of all ages who misbehave.
00:09And it's unbelievable to think that our lifeguards and our constabulary
00:15will be assorted and subject to verbal abuse as well as physical abuse.
00:21But I'm afraid this year that has been the case.
00:24We've had to supplement also our security,
00:28and that comes at great cost.
00:31So queues to the Lido now require additional security
00:36in order to ensure that incidents don't occur.
00:41Every pound we spend on security is a pound we're not spending on the habitat.
00:47In terms of other staffing requirements,
00:51yes, we have additional staffing hours to monitor,
00:55as I've already explained, the weather conditions,
00:58vulnerable areas of the heath, the fire.
01:02And I'm afraid, again, to be alert to where people who crazily decide
01:09they're going to light a barbecue, it's usually a barbecue, on the heath,
01:15we need to be there and close it down, and which we've managed to do.
01:18Because the risk is, if one of these things gets out of control,
01:24and you've seen where we are now, this is not just one heat wave,
01:28this is a fifth heat wave, the resilience of the heath is much weakened.
01:32So the destruction could be immense.
01:35So that all has a cost and we're bearing it.
01:40So we do ask people to be particularly mindful
01:45because we can then use those resources on things
01:49that are outside human control and be more effective.

02:01I referred to of people jumping in the ponds, expressing their concern.
02:06I've responded to them and explained the measures we're taking.
02:10I've sought from them both policy support and financial support.
