00:01The reading of a key witness statement in a US$5.6 billion lawsuit by 1MDB against former
00:09Prime Minister Datuk Seri, Najib Razak and five others at the High Court was interrupted
00:14after lawyers objected to parts of the testimony.
00:17Former 1MDB CEO and Managing Director Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, the fourth plaintiff's
00:24witness, was recounting his involvement with the Terengganu Investment Authority and 1MDB
00:29including references to fugitive businessman Joe Lowe, when Najib's lawyer Tan Sri Mohammed
00:36Shafi Abdullah raised an objection during the trial on Thursday.
00:40Shafi objected to a paragraph mentioning Najib and Lowe, saying it suggested Lowe was acting
00:45as Najib's proxy and amounted to hearsay unless Shahrol had heard it directly from Najib.
00:52GK Ganesan, who represents former 1MDB Director of Investments Kelvin Tan, also raised a similar
00:59objection, saying that he would address it in his submissions.
01:03One MDB lawyer Natalie Keir said the plaintiff would respond to the objections in its submissions
01:08next week.
01:10Judicial Commissioner Mohammad Redzwan Idris said he would disregard the disputed paragraph.
01:15Earlier, the plaintiff withdrew its claims against former Chief Financial Officer Radi
01:21Mohammad after both parties reached an amicable settlement.
01:25The civil suit was filed by 1MDB and its subsidiaries in May 2021 against the defendants, alleging
01:33that they had breached their trust and fiduciary duties, abused their powers and conspired to
01:39misappropriate 1MDB funds.
01:41the hearing continues on Monday.
