Evergreen Blueshoes — The Ballad of Evergreen Blueshoes 1969 (USA, Psychedelic, Folk Rock)
A psychedelic band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1967 and debuted at the Topanga Canyon club. They were called the "Beatles of Topanga Canyon," although their music had nothing in common with the Beatles, but Evergreen Blueshoes were the club's biggest success. They then played at the Corral Club for nine months and then recorded several singles and their only album, "The Ballad of Evergreen Blueshoes," in 1969 at the small Amos Records label. Their mix of folk rock, blues, and psych with a touch of freakiness, though the presence of a keyboardist occasionally lends a psych-prog edge to the sound. The band could have become a big phenomenon in the Los Angeles underground scene, but broke up due to internal disagreements. After the breakup, each of the musicians went their own way. Skip Battin went on to play with The Byrds, The New Riders of the Purple Sage, and The Flying Burrito Brothers. Drummer Chet McCracken later joined the Doobie Brothers. The rest became session musicians.
