00:00Heidelberg Materials has reopened a closed section of the East Mendip Way
00:04after resurfacing the trail with stone from its Watley quarry,
00:08enhancing the long-distance footpath for walkers.
00:12The new stone surface stabilises the trail along Egford Brook
00:16and protects it from erosion near the brook's confluence with the Mells River.
00:21Dog-dipping spots and coppice trees have been added to protect the riverbank,
00:26create habitats for fish and invertebrates,
00:28and reduce erosion, says Principal Landscape Architect Alex Hemming.
00:33The upgraded East Mendip Way now links to the Collier's Way route toward Radstock,
00:39part of the Missing Links Network.
00:41Volunteers continue seeking funding for remaining sections.
