00:00The High Court has granted Rosma Mansour a conditional stay on the payment of US$14.6 million,
00:07or about RM67.5 million, to Lebanese jewellery company Global Royalty Trading S.A.L., pending
00:15her appeal at the Court of Appeal. However, Judicial Commissioner Marianne Antoinette Ghani
00:20ordered Rosma to place the full judgment sum in a joint account held by lawyers for both
00:26parties within one month. She claimed that the arrangement would protect Global Royalty's
00:32right to the money if Rosma's appeal failed, while keeping the funds in Malaysia and allowing
00:37them to be returned to Rosma if her appeal succeeded. Marianne also acknowledged the risk
00:43that Rosma might not recover the money if it was paid directly to Global Royalty and she later
00:49won her appeal. The Court said the stay balanced both parties' rights, but Global Royalty could
00:55enforce the judgment if Rosma failed to make the deposit as ordered.
01:00On June 10th, High Court Judge Kwe Chiu Sun ruled in favour of Global Royalty in its suit
01:07against Rosma. The company had sought the return of 43 jewellery items or payment of their estimated
01:13value of US$14.6 million. Rosma's conditional stay will remain in place while she pursues her
