00:00People I feel most sorry for in all of this is PC Harper's family, Lissy and his mother. I had
00:05the pleasure of working with Lissy as a backbench MP when she had the law changed in his memory. And
00:09they're being pulled from pillar to post. From one day to the next, the government is saying different things. That
00:14must be so distressing for them.
00:15We've been very clear from the start when this bill was first passed many, many months ago. We were clear
00:20that it should the early release should exclude serious violent offenders and sexual offenders. And we voted to try and
00:27get that change. It was actually Labour and the Liberal Democrats who worked together to stop us from having that
00:32change made. It's shameful, really, that it's taken victims speaking out in the way that so many have to get
00:37the government to listen. And they need to now just get on with it and make clear that these sorts
00:41of people should not be getting out of prison earlier.
