00:09According to a lawsuit obtained by The Wrap,
00:11Carradine walked into UCLA's locked psychiatric unit feeling relieved to be hospitalized
00:16and hoped additional inpatient treatment would help reduce his anxiety.
00:20The filing said Carradine was happy to be in a locked, structured environment
00:24where he could rest, describing it as containing and helpful.
00:28But his family claims those hopes did not match the reality of the care he received.
00:33According to the lawsuit, UCLA allowed Carradine to enter the locked psychiatric unit with a belt,
00:38despite his active suicidal thoughts and history of suicide attempts.
00:43His family argued that removing belts is standard practice when a patient checks into a psychiatric
00:48hospital because a belt can be used to cause self-harm or hanging.
00:52The lawsuit also alleges UCLA left a rolling bedside table in Carradine's room,
00:57which his family said was not standard furniture in the locked psychiatric unit.
01:02According to the filing, Carradine attempted to take his own life 19 hours after he was admitted.
01:07He never regained consciousness and suffered an anoxic brain injury,
01:11which led to a five-week stay in the intensive care unit.
01:14Carradine died on February 23rd, 2026. He was 71 years old.
01:19His family also alleges UCLA failed to check on him every 15 minutes,
01:23and that he was left alone for long periods of time.
01:26The lawsuit claims that UCLA had the knowledge, policies, and means to prevent what happened,
01:32but instead took shortcuts with two safeguards that were intended to protect Carradine's life.
01:37Carradine's family is seeking general, special, and economic damages, as well as additional wrongful damages.
01:43The Revenge of the Nerds and Lizzie McGuire actor had reportedly struggled with bipolar disorder,
01:48severe depression, and anxiety before his death.
01:52He is survived by his three children, Ever, Marika and Ian.
