00:00The winner of our Star Mum Award, sponsored by Children's Salon, is Soraya Kelly.
00:05Welsh-born Soraya is a hero mum of four.
00:09She overcame a tough upbringing to dedicate herself to underprivileged children
00:13and steer them away from drugs and violence.
00:16Soraya created the charity The Gloves Are On,
00:19which runs several projects to help young people in the area where she lives,
00:24to help them through issues such as mental health, school and exam pressure,
00:28crime, bereavement, personal development and self-confidence.
00:33Soraya is also involved in the promotion of early detection of cancer
00:37after being diagnosed with breast cancer herself three years ago.
00:41Other projects include Fade It Out, Knock It Out,
00:45which is an initiative aimed at ending discrimination in sport,
00:48and at the age of 36 she studied for a BA in Youth and Community Education
00:53as she wanted to make more of a difference in the lives of the children she worked for.
00:57She did this while pregnant with twins and caring for her two older children.
01:03She has won a huge share of the vote for this award.
01:06She is, quite simply, a star mum.

01:17Hopefully, it will give me an even bigger platform to be able to not only have a voice for these
01:25young people
01:25that I work with in the community, children and the families, but to be heard as well.
01:31In the future, I'm looking forward to working together in collaboration with many more organisations and charities
01:39and just providing better outcomes for children, young people and families.
01:45and I just want to thank everybody that, you know, has made this possible for me
01:51to be able to go forward to make even more of a difference.
