00:00Today, on World Bee Day, it's a huge pleasure to speak to you as the first President of
00:07Bees for Development. As we all know, bees are vital to the natural world and an essential
00:12part of our fragile ecology. Keeping bees and harvesting honey is an old age tradition,
00:20but this remarkable charity has found a way to use busy bee to help alleviate poverty
00:26and encourage biodiversity. It works to train and educate people in the simple methods needed to
00:34keep bees, often at little or no cost. This, in turn, provides a much-needed income to people living in
00:44some of the poorest and most isolated communities in the world, and it means that there are healthy
00:50hives of bees working to pollinate crops. I have a personal reason to support this charity,
00:58as I keep bees myself. Every year, the honey from my hives is harvested and sold for charity,
01:06and I'm delighted this year's honey crop will help Bees for Development continue their very
01:12important work. May I wish you all a very happy bee day.
