00:01I'm hoping to fulfill a dream of following in the same footsteps as my mum
00:06because she's been an incredible mother and she still is to this day helping me
00:10with my little twosome, my little monkeys. She's an inspiration, she's
00:16always worrying about everybody else and never too concerned about what's going
00:21on with her so that's what's great about Mother's Day is remembering and showing
00:27your mum how much you care. I remember looking back I wasn't that confident when
00:33I was younger and I was bullied at school and it was my mum that kept telling me
00:38that I should believe in myself and don't change to please others stay true to
00:43yourself and that's what my mother taught me and that's why I try and teach my
00:46little ones. Yeah for being tall for being speaking nicely for whatever I think I
00:52I just was a, I didn't fit in with the mould so yeah.
00:57You know, so that's a story.
01:00Yeah I found that when I come home from school crying because I'd been bullied my
01:05mum and I would always have this promise that we would sit down together and have
01:09a cup of tea and biscuits when I first came in before homework started so that
01:12we could catch up on our day and open up about how we were feeling and what was on
01:17our minds and that that was a really important part of our day and I try and
01:22sort of cherish a moment with with my boys when they come in even though when
01:25they want to go out and play football or even if it's last thing at night just
01:28cuddling up with them and checking in with them I think that's so important and
01:33that's what my mum did for me and she always kept in touch with how I was
01:37feeling and I felt confident enough to open up to my mum and she gave me the
01:42confidence to be strong and be true to myself. I find that when my little one my
01:51six-year-old comes home from school he comes home a few hours before the older
01:54one and that's when I get a little mummy time with him and even if we're sitting
01:58doing homework I find the best time is when they're able to sit still for a
02:02moment so it won't necessarily be a serious sit-down talk but just in general you
02:08know being able to have that open discussion or last thing at night after we've
02:12read a book tell a comforting story so they go to bed feeling safe and loved.
02:17Being a stepmother to start with was very daunting and challenging but it's
02:22proved to be an honour and very rewarding. When I first met my husband some you
02:29know 15 years ago I think his youngest was five and then they sort of went from
02:39into their teenagers and the oldest was 21 so I got to see the different stages
02:45that children go through and the challenges that they hold but the
02:48rewards as well and it's been a learning curve but a wonderful one and it's so
02:55lovely that we're all so close and they will turn to me for advice talk about dad
02:59talk about boyfriends career choices so it's it's a big happy family now so we
03:07together Rod and I we have a grandchild well I'm step-grandmummy anyway and and
03:15that's wonderful because Kimberly's daughter Delilah is almost the same age as
03:20our little Aiden and they get on like brother and sister it's wonderful that they
03:25have kind of their little play times together and they'll always be really
03:29really close it's a wonderful bond
