00:07We begin this hour with American voters fed up with the high prices they're paying for everything
00:11from gas to groceries and a president who just doesn't get the problem. During a visit to Las
00:17Vegas yesterday, President Trump was set to give remarks underscoring how his policies boosted
00:21workers. But his rampling speech once again dismissed concerns about affordability while
00:26praising our so-called economic golden age and, of course, himself. In my first day, the president,
00:33what are you going to do about affordability? It was a word they devised, affordability.
00:38They never used that word before. It was announced that American exports are
00:43totally on fire in a positive way. This is a positive fire, not a negative.
00:47I don't get any credit for anything. We will pass the great health care plan. It's called the great
00:53health care plan. The golden age of America is upon us.
00:59Continues to be a strange message to send in an election cycle where voters are telling us
01:05affordability is their top issue. Just listen to this Ohio mother who is a Trump supporter,
01:10who's literally moved to tears when my colleague Alex Tabit asked her about the basics she's struggling
01:15to buy. Is this how you expected the second Trump term to go?
01:21No, not at all. I hoped it was going to be so much better. You know, you can't do anything
01:28with
01:29gas prices and you just can't, you can't afford to breathe at this point. I'm very hurt.
01:38Um, I try to do, sorry, I cry. Um, I try to do a lot for my kids and I
01:47can't do much.
01:50With that, I want to bring in Alex Huck as chief of policy at Groundwork Collective,
01:54Sarah Matthews, who served as deputy White House press secretary in the first Trump administration.
01:59She's now a spokesperson for the group Home of the Brave. My longtime colleague, Richard Wolff,
02:03who was former executive editor of MSNBC.com and was my boss when I was like 22 and former senior
02:09advisor to Kamala Harris, Mike Nellis. Mike, I'm going to start with you. That voter that we just
02:14heard from still had a Trump sticker with her. And yet she was moved to tears at one point about
02:20the
02:20state of the economy. I think it's a good reminder for all of us. The politics is important, but the
02:24people are at the center of it. And I wonder if you think this is a moment where folks are
02:29finally
02:29starting to realize what has long been true, which is that a lot of the Trump policies sound
02:33populist, but aren't actually, and harm a lot of the people that have voted for him in the past.
02:38Yeah. I think people feel hoodwinked, right? Like Donald Trump is acting like we just invented the
02:42word affordability. Um, I've heard him say the same thing about groceries. He's like,
02:45nobody ever talked about groceries until I came on. He literally campaigned on that.
02:48Right. He's like, I invented the word. I don't understand it. It's like he got elected on a single
02:52promise, really two promises, but a single promise of when I get elected, everything will get less
02:56expensive. And now he's acting like, well, why did you guys think I'd be able to get anything done
02:59on that? And meanwhile, the tariffs are making everything more expensive. He's launching this
03:03illegal war. He has no idea how to get out of gas prices are skyrocketing. And I really feel bad
03:07for that mom and for all the people out there who thought that their lives were going to get better.
03:11And now they're just watching Donald Trump make billions of dollars is awful. And that's why he's
03:14going to lose in November. That woman is also not an outlier. I've had conversations like that,
03:19but I also want to play some more of the conversations that my colleague Alex Tabit had in Ohio. Watch.
03:26You can't save now. Every dollar you have has to go to gas, groceries, bills, rent. The economy's
03:32terrible. And our leadership is not as good as it used to be. He's more doing for him than he
03:36is
03:37for the people. Low class might as well, you know, crawl in a hole because they can't afford anything.
03:43I feel bad for our seniors right now, too.
