00:23Right. And that's a good question, too.
00:25I, for one, I'm always suspicious of the union structure because it compels you to make contributions.
00:32And if you're an athlete or if you grew up in an athlete's family, trust me when I tell you,
00:36a lot of these cats are broke.
00:38They certainly were when I was coming up. It was like they barely had money to get home for holiday.
00:43They barely had money for food or laundry. Training table wasn't seven days a week back then.
00:49So it's come a long way. But I'm just going to tell you right now, be careful.
00:54People want to play around with unions and they can be useful.
00:57But I would be suspicious personally just because that can get really far afield of what we're actually trying to
01:03do,
01:03which is help the athletes, but also enable them to make money for themselves and for their families and their
01:09future.
01:09And I want to do that, by the way, without being compelled to get thousands and thousands of dollars to
01:14a union that may or may not represent my best interest.
01:17Kevin, for you, what is the one thing, all the years covering it and being involved in sports,
01:23what would be the one thing that you'd like to see reformed as we move forward and college sports moves
01:29forward?
01:30Two things. One, I think we should definitely expand the field for the playoff just because I think one of
01:35the greatest things about college basketball
01:38is that one shining moment because you just never know.
01:41And I really believe that if we expand the playoff field, we're going to end up with some shocking upsets
01:47and some really interesting times.
01:49And frankly, to me, it makes it more lively to know that more teams can participate.
01:55The last thing I would say is I really want to see college sports enable guys to have money after.
02:02And what I mean by that is let's not just pay the players, let's set aside money and trusts so
02:08that when they come out,
02:09whether you graduate or not, you got some money to start your life because I don't want every guy to
02:13graduate or not graduate
02:15and have absolutely no money and no education for all those years of hard work.
02:21I'd like to see an annuity set up for these kids.
02:24It's the same way that the Allen Iverson, the Allen Iverson Reebok annuity when 35 years down the line,
02:31he's going to make himself a whole boatload of money because people put some of that money into an annuity.
