00:00As his car was bumped on the turn, it spun out of control, smashed head onto the wall,
00:04and erupted into flames. Usually when these kinds of horrifying crashes happen in NASCAR,
00:09a safety crew is on the scene in seconds, ready to extinguish the flames and pull the driver
00:14from the wreckage. But as Mike Jones sat trapped in the burning cockpit, he didn't see the safety
00:19team. Instead, he saw a lone figure in a t-shirt and cargo shorts leap over the barrier rushing
00:25towards the fire. This was of course completely against the rules. A spectator or any unauthorized
00:31person on a live track is a massive danger and they could be interfering with the official safety
00:36staff. But as the man reached the window, Mike realized it was his dad. Dean Jones reached into
00:41the window and tried pulling his son from the fiery wreck. But with the front of the car crushed in
00:46on
00:46him, Mike was stuck. With adrenaline coursing through his body, Dean kept desperately pulling on his son
00:52until he dragged him to safety just moments before the car was fully engulfed in flames.
00:59For breaching safety protocols, Dean was immediately put on probation by NASCAR officials,
01:04but he didn't care. His son was alive and that's all that really mattered.
