00:00And we continue in China, but this time with a different information.
00:03A former open-pit mine has been transformed into an ecological park,
00:07an example of the transition toward a development model
00:10that seeks to harmonize industry and nature.
00:13Our correspondent Bruno Falsch is in the region and brings us the following report.
00:20In Manxian, Yanwei province, iron and steel are part of the history of China's development.
00:27Mining activities in the region date back more than 1,600 years.
00:33But it was through the industrialization policies promoted by the Communist Party of China
00:39that the steel industry became a strategic sector.
00:43This process gave rise to mass steel,
00:47one of China's major state-owned steel companies
00:50and a symbol of the country's economic transformation.
00:57General Secretary Yi Xi Jinping attaches great importance
01:00to industrial development and the steel sector.
01:03Mastel has more than 70 years of history.
01:05During his visit to our company, Xi Jinping provided important guidance and support,
01:09promoting its integration into the coordinated development
01:12of the Yangtze River Delta region.
01:14Currently, Mastel's annual steel production exceeds 20 million tons,
01:17and in 2019, its revenue surpassed 100 billion yuan.
01:21We also make an important contribution through our tax payments.
01:31Mastel's history also reflects China's transition toward an ecological civilization.
01:37Where an open-pit mine once operated,
01:41today there is a Huan Shan Geological and Cultural Park,
01:45a 43,000-square-meter area where the former mining site has given way to a new ecosystem,
01:52with forests, a lake, and diverse species of flora and fauna.
01:58After graduating in 1992, I worked for 26 years at this mine.
02:03After the establishment of the ecological restoration company,
02:07I became part of this project.
02:09Going from exploiting the mountain to restoring it
02:12has been a very profound experience for me.
02:15Open-pit mining had impacts on the environment,
02:17and we witnessed that entire process.
02:19Today, seeing it transformed, we feel a great sense of satisfaction.
02:23We have contributed to society and to the miners,
02:27giving the community back a beautiful part for everyone to enjoy.
02:30In China, environment protection has become a priority in with the development model.
02:37The restoration of Huan Shan reflects the vision promoted by Xi Jinping
02:42that clear waters and green mountains are also valuable assets.
02:52China has attached great importance to environmental protection.
02:55In the past, mining activities caused impacts on mountains and ecosystems.
02:59Our company was established in 2021 to promote ecological restoration of mining areas,
03:04and that same year, we began the restoration of Huan Shan Geological and Cultural Park.
03:09Today, this park is a window into our work,
03:12and part of a broader process of ecological restoration across Mastil's mines.
03:19From a century-old mine to a restored ecosystem,
03:23Huan Shan is an example of China's vision of ecological civilization
03:28within the path of development of socialism with Chinese characteristics,
03:34a pursuit of balance between economic growth,
03:37environmental protection, and a sustainable future for new generations.
