00:01doug karsh scott anderson 971 okay so i don't know when this interview was done uh the sound
00:07has gotten posted on social media and quite frankly uh neither you nor i have heard it yet
00:13um but it is uh tarik skubel uh pardon my take uh talking about well how many cuts did we
00:19pull
00:20out of this kang is two cuts all right kang you've you've heard them yes okay um what are we
00:26what are we what are we about to hear all right it's from part of my take and the first
00:30cut
00:30is uh tarik skubel on how hard it was to leave the tigers and his teammates okay
00:57all right i mean i believe him yeah um i think it's probably really really hard to
01:03you know play with a team develop those relationships and then say goodbye even though
01:08the reason he is saying goodbye is his own doing essentially i mean i i don't feel bad for him
01:16it's part of the job players get traded all the time but i mean if you are if you're fully
01:22vested
01:22in what you're doing each and every day and giving everything for your team and your teammates
01:27and and i think he was i don't think skubel at any point was mailing it in because he wasn't
01:33going
01:33to be a tiger anymore to his credit but if you're giving everything that you've got for your teammates
01:38saying goodbye can't be easy but in in many ways i'm not i don't know that he's asking for sympathy
01:44and i'm not giving it but i think it's just part of the job i think something you always have
01:48to
01:49keep in mind when you hear a soundbite from somebody is that they were asked a question
01:53yeah you always have to keep that in mind it's not like they're there and they're just gonna
01:57i mean sometimes rarely it happens where somebody just opines about something um they're asked a
02:03question and they're responding to the question and yeah i think it i i do believe in that it was
02:09tough um it can all it can be lots of things can be true i think it was tough for
02:14him to leave the
02:15team that he's the only team he's known the team took a chance on him it's not like he was
02:18a first
02:19round pick the team that developed him stood by him three injuries and developed him into a a two-time
02:26cy young award winner i think it's also fair to say that he's looking forward to free agency
02:33uh to reap the benefits of free agency all right well i just think it's important that we play that
02:39cut too because i know a lot of people a lot of fans are upset of how this thing ended
02:43up and
02:44he's a dodger now but they they thought scuba was fake and i don't think he was being fake now
02:49he may not have said the right things all the time but i think he was being genuine and i
02:54don't think
02:55like because the interview with the media he was kind of tearing up a little bit right when mentioning
02:59the trade but behind the scenes in the locker room he really was according to him right crying and
03:04missing the teammates and guys he went to war with so i think it's important to realize that i think
03:08he
03:08was being genuine and not everything says is the probably the right thing but i think he was being
03:13real the whole time and uh yeah i think we knew that he was going to end up somewhere else
03:16at the
03:17trade deadline anyways i agree all right what else do we have here all right the next cut is um
03:21they
03:22basically say that it sucks that he couldn't be a tiger the rest of his career and uh how this
03:28thing
03:28ended up that he ended up in the uh in the dodger uniform and he answers this okay
03:51that is um wild i did not expect to hear him say that just days after being traded
04:01if you had told me this soundbite was from october or november i'd say okay i hear it um he's
04:08just
04:09opening it up there but i mean this he just got traded the dodgers and he's talking about i'd love
04:14to come back to the tigers is that weird and cool knowing let's start with this yes it's cool
04:27and if he's being sincere it's awesome right that's a big if and
04:33i don't think it's going to happen by any stretch of the imagination nor i don't think it should
04:39happen and i'll tell you why because with boris as his agent this is going to be a massive massive
04:45contract that probably is unwise long term i i think he's looking at eight to ten years i would
04:54not want to sign him for that long i think the amount of money is going to be approaching 50
04:58million a year i think we're looking at a 450 500 million dollar contract that i think has a
05:05a strong i would not be comfortable signing that i don't want to say the guy's going to get hurt
05:10i
05:10don't want to say anything like that but the the what the risk that the team that's going to sign
05:15him to what boris is going to try to negotiate the risk in my view is not worth it it's
05:21cool it's cool
05:22that he said that the second part is i know how sometimes people fans media sports talk show hosts
05:31can be unreasonable i don't know how that's going to play in la i don't know how that's well they
05:37don't care in la um that's how it plays in la no actually they do care about the dodgers though
05:42care about the dodgers and the lakers dodgers and lakers about all they care about um
05:47i disagree with you a little bit on what his what he's going to get in the off season okay
05:51i think
05:52it'd be between six and eight years okay six or eight years and i think probably still the same
05:55thing maybe between three and four hundred million dollars 50 million a year but the question i have
06:01out of hearing this soundbite which to me is i'm shocked by it is why did he say it he
06:06doesn't have
06:07to say that yeah but he wasn't prompted well he kind of was prompted because they asked and they
06:12brought up the fact that the whole system kind of sucks that he can't just spend the rest of his
06:16career with the tigers and why can't that be you're so good you had to get traded you're an asset
06:21everyone
06:21wants you and he responded with basically you heard the cut is i would love to spend the rest of
06:26my
06:26career with the tigers and my take on it is it's not wild to me because i really believe him
06:31doug
06:32the part that he left out though is as long as they pay me the most money yeah yeah no
06:37you're right
06:37i think tarek scoobal would love to be a tiger honestly they just have to pay him what him and
06:42scott boris want and the whole time they weren't going to sign extensions because they want to test
06:46the open market and whatever team offers him the most money is where he's going period him saying
06:52that he wanted he would love to spend his whole career with the tigers that's that's nothing new
06:57he said that before and that but no one believed him well fair enough but the the part that i'm
07:02reacting
07:02to is is after that where he says i hope they get when we start negotiating for a new deal
07:09in november i hope the tigers are in touch that's the new part that i'm like that that did not
07:17expect
07:17to hear him say that now do i do i think he's going to sign with the tigers in the
07:20offseason
07:20no i don't for all the reasons we talked about it's going to be cost prohibitive he's going to get
07:25a
07:25monster deal from somebody else that the tigers can't afford to pay and it's going to go that
07:29direction that being said i i feel a little differently now than i did 10 minutes ago about
07:36tarik school do you yeah just a little bit i'd like to hear that as a fan i want to
07:41hear that
07:42you know even if it's false hope that but what he said i think he is sincere in it he'd
07:48like to
07:48spend the rest he wanted to spend the rest of his career the tigers and like the tigers negotiate
07:52but to king's point provided of course they spend them they're willing to spend the money it's hard to
07:58imagine a scenario where they do if you think about what teams are going to bid for him if you
08:02were what comfortable what would make you comfortable what tarik scuble contract would make you comfortable
08:07six years 300 million okay so i'm at at four years which is unrealistic but if he were willing to
08:16go
08:16four years the number that follows the four doesn't matter to me i understand yeah because i i i'm
08:22comfortable paying you over what i think is going to be the heart of your most productive years
08:26whatever you want and you know within reason it's not four years 800 million but it's it's four years
08:34at 50 four years at 52 like whatever that kind of thing is but you know well listen i say
08:42what you
08:42want but the tigers do have a chance in them they just have to spend an enormous amount of money
08:48that
08:48a lot of people quite frankly just like you doug aren't comfortable with and that's okay but
08:52they have a shot they just have to pay dodger yankee red sock type money and we all don't we
08:58all
08:58agree i don't think that's going to happen yeah well that's intriguing stuff from scuble i i think there
09:04is in this town some scuble fatigue that feels like new information um and so we wanted to to see
09:12what
09:12was new and how he sounded and what exactly he said and there you have it uh you know i
09:19sometimes when
09:20he was with the tigers it felt like he was saying complimentary things about the tigers that was
09:25met with an eye roll because yeah sure you're going to say that now and b you're leaving now that
09:31he's
09:31gone and still saying it maybe to the detriment of what his fans in his current town feel i can't
09:38believe he's talking like this now he's a dodger i know seems a little it seems a little i you
09:45know
09:45what it i guess it just means he means yeah but they won't care much if they pay him the
09:50most money
09:50the dodgers i'm speaking of right like hey you said all those bad stuff how about 300 million
09:56or you said all this stuff about going to another team how about you stay here for 400 million
10:00something we've never really given thought to or very little thought to the dodgers don't need him
10:07i mean they they want him for this year because they want to win that third championship right those
10:13are all the reports they're obsessed with winning the third straight championship they don't need
10:18to sign him in the offseason they've got guys that are hurt right now that are going to be coming
10:22back
10:23to this team that the rotation is fine with or without terek skuble it's just it's nauseatingly good
10:30with him in that rotation but i'm not so sure that dodgers going to be bidding for him in the
10:35offseason
10:35especially if in this cba that's a whole other sweetheart tv deal gets wiped out which feels to me like
10:42it
10:43would be a priority the other 29 owners carson anderson open lines 2485399797 in the meantime
10:50don't look now tigers are a game out of the playoffs as kang put it so perfectly because sports
11:02how's this happening it's carson anderson we'll get to that next on 97.1
11:06you
