00:00:02What's going on, y'all?
00:00:03It's Friday, and we got NFL football to talk about.
00:00:07Maybe the greatest Hall of Fame game we've ever witnessed.
00:00:11We got Netflix, Lord Shahadi, coming on to talk about the return of the Field of Dreams game.
00:00:16We got the Money Corner, Mega Make Money, KDX Crawlers, the Sundwich, Sundwich?
00:00:21The Summer Sandwich series continues.
00:00:24The Cubs with an insane win once again.
00:00:27Red Sox, there's a lot to get to.
00:00:28Tune in all starts now on FS1.
00:00:52Shout out to that new intro.
00:00:53What?
00:00:54Shout out to that new intro.
00:00:55Oh, yeah, new intro looks good, huh?
00:00:56Yeah.
00:00:56I appreciate it.
00:00:57For no specific reason.
00:00:59Where'd you get that?
00:00:59Little sauce is making.
00:01:00I was spending the last, like, two minutes, like, freaking out, trying to put my phone on.
00:01:04Do not disturb.
00:01:05I can't get it to unlock.
00:01:06My passcode's not working.
00:01:07I wonder what the hell's going on.
00:01:08It was Kadek's phone.
00:01:09It was right here the entire time.
00:01:11Welcome in to Friday's Wake Up Barstool.
00:01:13T-Bob, baby.
00:01:14We got Chief here.
00:01:15We got Michael Kadek.
00:01:16Dana Beers, fresh from the UK.
00:01:18Megan making money on Friday as well.
00:01:20Guys, how are we feeling here at the edge of another weekend?
00:01:24Football.
00:01:25I feel tingly.
00:01:27There's football on the screen, boys.
00:01:30It's awesome.
00:01:32We're back.
00:01:33We're so back.
00:01:34We're almost back.
00:01:35We're close to back.
00:01:37Well, I mean, look, every day we're getting closer.
00:01:3833-22 is the countdown.
00:01:40But even last night, though, again, the Hall of Fame game, a game that is normally you turn it on
00:01:47for a second.
00:01:47You maybe enjoy some of the sights and sounds and the quality quickly nosedives.
00:01:52But last night, guys, I mean, not just because Haynes King comes up with a big walk-off finish to
00:01:58win it for the Panthers.
00:02:00It was a very fun moment.
00:02:01But really, the quality of football, the quality of offense was pretty damn good throughout the entirety of the night.
00:02:08Carson Beck's a stud, apparently.
00:02:10Yes.
00:02:10Yeah.
00:02:11He killed it.
00:02:12I mean, the game, well, the game itself was awesome.
00:02:16Look at that.
00:02:17It fired me up.
00:02:18But, I mean, Carson Beck made, what, three really good long throws?
00:02:22Yeah.
00:02:22Yeah.
00:02:23I thought he controlled the offense very well.
00:02:27One thing, his snap count.
00:02:30I don't know how many, you know, snap count.
00:02:32That was the play right there.
00:02:33Very nitpicky.
00:02:34Then this one.
00:02:35Snap count's pretty predictable.
00:02:36That's all I'm saying about him.
00:02:37That's it.
00:02:38It's early.
00:02:38Yeah.
00:02:39It's early.
00:02:39It's his turbo setup.
00:02:40Turbo setup.
00:02:43Switch it up a little bit.
00:02:44But, hey, that's just a little thing.
00:02:46It's pretty nitpicky.
00:02:47It's just something I picked up on.
00:02:48It's something I hear.
00:02:49It's something I pick up on.
00:02:50I like that, though.
00:02:51Yeah.
00:02:51Because that's not something I picked up on.
00:02:53That's not something a, what's the, a layman?
00:02:57Layman.
00:02:58Yeah.
00:02:58Thank you, T-Bob.
00:02:59A layman would pick up on.
00:03:01So, I appreciate you pointing that out.
00:03:03It doesn't look like the Panthers picked up on it either.
00:03:05They're 15 and 19 for 188 in a TD.
00:03:07No.
00:03:08Yeah.
00:03:08And it's, it's, it's kind of an interesting next step in the Carson Beck journey, where
00:03:13if we remember a, a couple of years ago, uh, here's a guy that looked like he was in line
00:03:20to be a top five NFL draft pick, right?
00:03:24And he's returning to Georgia for another year.
00:03:26They're going to do big things.
00:03:27And it kind of falls apart.
00:03:30Kirby and company, like he, he ends up getting hurt.
00:03:33He missed the playoffs.
00:03:34He leaves town and Kirby and his teammates kind of say like, don't let the door hit you
00:03:39on the way out.
00:03:40Basically bailing on him.
00:03:41His stock's way down.
00:03:43He goes to Miami and he ends up proving us wrong.
00:03:46Kind of the entire year of Florida.
00:03:48He goes on the great playoff run.
00:03:50And what you witnessed last night, like that was the guy who at one point I thought was
00:03:55going to be a top five NFL draft pick.
00:03:57And now the question is chief, do we have a quarterback controversy in Arizona?
00:04:03I know we were big pay Jacoby guys here.
00:04:06I've been leading the Jacoby percent is good charge for like eight years.
00:04:10I love, I love Jacoby percent ever since what do you have?
00:04:14Like a two game stick with the Patriots.
00:04:15I love them at North Carolina state.
00:04:17So I am a Jacoby percent stand.
00:04:19I have like a list of quarterbacks going back to like Connor Shaw.
00:04:22I was like, you just give him a chance.
00:04:24Like they got it.
00:04:25And Jacoby percent's on that list.
00:04:26But eventually, if he keeps having performances like that, could he be the future for Arizona?
00:04:33They've been looking for that quarterback.
00:04:34They thought they had it with Kyler Murray.
00:04:36Maybe it is actually Carson Beck.
00:04:38And he is that top five type of quarterback that we thought coming out of his junior year
00:04:43at Georgia.
00:04:43So yeah, a great start to his career.
00:04:46And he certainly looked the part last night.
00:04:48Yeah, I think Carson Beck has throughout his college career kind of proved a lot of people
00:04:54wrong.
00:04:55And there's something about him.
00:04:56Like he's got a, he's got a goofy look about him.
00:04:58He does.
00:04:59He's got like the Napoleon dynamite, like breathing through your mouth face.
00:05:02But so, I mean, I'm a little bit of sin for my sage.
00:05:05Yeah.
00:05:06I'm of the, I'm of the belief that sometimes you got to let these rookies take their lumps.
00:05:10And, and if you have to start them week one and, and, you know, they have to go through
00:05:14the, the tough, you know, tough hits at the beginning of the season, let them take them
00:05:19and learn from that.
00:05:20But I don't know.
00:05:21I mean, I don't see the upside of having Jacoby Brissett.
00:05:23They're not going to win many ball games with him at quarterback.
00:05:26I disagree.
00:05:27I mean, you know, I think in the sample size, I saw data maybe onto something there.
00:05:33I think too, if like, let's just really just run with this.
00:05:35If Carson Beck ends up being good, this would be another feather in the cap of
00:05:40sort of the aged, experienced college quarterback that, that, that sometimes a guy who sticks
00:05:46around five years or maybe even pushes it to six, that it's maybe shouldn't be viewed
00:05:52as a negative.
00:05:53It means that they enter a bit more NFL ready.
00:05:55And again, yeah, going from Georgia to Miami, that's a very professional experience in terms
00:06:02of changing settings, having to learn a new team and then having the success that he did
00:06:06and learning to lead a new group of guys.
00:06:08You kind of saw it on the field last night, but the Cardinals did not win the game.
00:06:13The Panthers did.
00:06:15And yeah, look, Kenny Pickett, he was fun.
00:06:17But I mean, Haynes King.
00:06:20Dude, remember when they did, what was that, like a four overtime?
00:06:24Against Georgia.
00:06:25Oh, the Georgia game two years ago.
00:06:26One of the greatest college football games ever.
00:06:28Ever since that, I have been a huge Haynes King guy.
00:06:32He's like the toughest dude quarterback I've seen in a while.
00:06:37And he's just a baller.
00:06:38Like he just plays like some guys just have that edge and have that just playmaker.
00:06:43And that's him.
00:06:44And I loved watching him.
00:06:45Yeah.
00:06:45That's similar to a summer league basketball where I don't put like a ton of stock into
00:06:49preseason football.
00:06:50But this is a stat line, and you can just see it with your eyeballs, that this is a
00:06:54dude that we saw at Georgia Tech.
00:06:57He's a grinder.
00:06:58He's tough as nails.
00:07:00And maybe that will carry over.
00:07:01I don't know if he's going to be a starting quarterback in the league.
00:07:04But fun to watch last night for sure.
00:07:06For those that have been watching Wake Up Barstool for the last year, we made a lot of money
00:07:10in the money corner on Haynes King.
00:07:12Oh, yeah.
00:07:12Anytime touchdowns, two-plus touchdowns, rushing yards.
00:07:16I mean, you name it, we were making money on Haynes King.
00:07:19That's right.
00:07:20What I liked on Haynes last night, and again, Dana's right.
00:07:22Like, at that point in the game, you're playing guys who aren't going to make the team.
00:07:25But what I liked is he didn't rely on his legs more than his arm, but then he had perfect
00:07:33timing when he kind of broke the glass to say, okay, now my leg's got to win the game.
00:07:38There's the third and 14 where he comes up with like the big 30-yard scramble.
00:07:41Kadek, even he lowers his shoulder into a guy on the way out instead of just stepping
00:07:47out the sideline, which probably he should actually avoid.
00:07:50Not in this case.
00:07:51No, not in this case.
00:07:52I mean, first game, yeah.
00:07:53Make an impression.
00:07:55Two seconds left.
00:07:56Got to win it.
00:07:57And he trusts his legs.
00:07:59Now, as you can see, look, 34 attempts, 180 yards.
00:08:04That's kind of the flaw with Haynes King, right, is he's very comfortable with like checking
00:08:08down with the short stuff.
00:08:09If he can ever learn to push the ball downfield or to attack over the middle in kind of that
00:08:16intermediate range, then he could be a legitimate NFL quarterback.
00:08:21That's right.
00:08:21Yeah.
00:08:22I mean, look at your boy Tyler Shuck.
00:08:24You're talking a little bit about these guys who have seasoned, you know, they're vets in
00:08:29the college game.
00:08:31I think he could possibly be another one of those guys.
00:08:33He spent a lot of time in college.
00:08:36And, you know, he's one of those quarterbacks that's just tough.
00:08:39Again, though, that moment last night, that walk-off touchdown, the Panthers vets running
00:08:44to go, you know, give him love.
00:08:47Everybody, I got goosebumps watching it, dude.
00:08:50Like, it doesn't matter.
00:08:51It doesn't mean anything to the grand scheme.
00:08:52But it was the best Hall of Fame game, most competitive we've ever seen.
00:08:55And the moment really, really shined.
00:08:59What a great moment for the rookie here, Haynes King, as he finds his way.
00:09:03Oh, pump fake.
00:09:04And look.
00:09:05Sick.
00:09:06You play the game to win.
00:09:09And if you're one of the guys trying to make these teams, the fan may not care, but this
00:09:12is your life.
00:09:12Yeah.
00:09:13This is everything you've ever dreamed of on the line.
00:09:16And it's so fun to watch the salty vets give the young bucks some love.
00:09:19I mean, even if he doesn't work out, you know.
00:09:22He'll always have that.
00:09:23Always have that.
00:09:24Hall of Fame game.
00:09:25Pretty cool feeling.
00:09:25Football.
00:09:26Pretty cool feeling.
00:09:26And I think they're only keeping three quarterbacks in camp.
00:09:28So, like, if they're between, like, just entering the season with two or saving a roster spot
00:09:34for him, like, that stuff does matter.
00:09:35He's right on the border.
00:09:37Well, and it's what every NFL coach will tell you if you're trying to make a team.
00:09:41You're not just putting out film for the team you're currently on.
00:09:45This is film for all 32 in the league.
00:09:48Because, to your point, let's say he doesn't stick around in Carolina.
00:09:51He could have value for somebody else in the NFL after a highlight like that.
00:09:55So, shout out to the Panthers, man.
00:09:5733-30 walk-off winners in the Hall of Fame game.
00:10:01Let's go to the college ranks.
00:10:02Because Purdue hired a new athletic director.
00:10:07And I'm going to go ahead and say this is an Adam Gase level of disaster press conference
00:10:14for one comment alone.
00:10:16Every recruit, every current student-athlete will hear this message repeatedly.
00:10:22We are here to win championships.
00:10:24If you don't want to win championships, go to Indiana.
00:10:29Whoa.
00:10:31Brother.
00:10:32Production in my ear said, don't curse, because they know I'm about to.
00:10:36First of all, right off the top, wrong color tie.
00:10:40Doesn't even match the poop color of Purdue.
00:10:42You have a yellow tie on, doesn't even match.
00:10:46Second of all, are you, like, what, how, what is it, eight months, nine months ago?
00:10:56The most recent champ, less.
00:11:00Like seven months ago.
00:11:02Indiana University won a national championship in football.
00:11:06I think Purdue has won five national championships across all sports, two of them being cheerleading.
00:11:12Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:11:14Respect to cheerleading.
00:11:15I respect to cheerleading, but that's not a mainstream sport.
00:11:21And they are just so little brother.
00:11:24It's, it pain, and this guy, what, he came from Vanderbilt or Rice or, he doesn't understand Big Ten.
00:11:30He was a long snapper at Northwestern State University.
00:11:35That, one, should tell you all you need to know.
00:11:38I love long snappers.
00:11:39Northwestern State?
00:11:39One of them, one of them was a roommate of mine, long snappers.
00:11:42But, those are guys that like to hang out with a lot of people or get invited to a lot
00:11:47of things.
00:11:48That's not true.
00:11:49That's not, no, no, no.
00:11:50I'm going to, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:11:51That's a crazy critique.
00:11:53This guy probably wasn't invited to a lot of things.
00:11:54That's a, no, my roommate was a huge nerd.
00:11:58He'll understand it.
00:11:59Deep snappers are cool.
00:12:01Deep snappers are, specialists are cool.
00:12:02They just party all the time.
00:12:03I disagree with your specialist.
00:12:05They party, they party as a specialist crew.
00:12:07They don't get invited to.
00:12:08No, no, no.
00:12:09That's not the point.
00:12:09That's not the point.
00:12:10But he's always had that little brother syndrome, the little brother syndrome, and he's doing it again.
00:12:15He probably saw Coach Sig's first press conference and how he, and how he started his career
00:12:23at Indiana making noise, making waves throughout the, not even the Big Ten, but the whole country.
00:12:29And this guy thought, hey, man, I'm going to, I'm going to take a jab at Indiana.
00:12:33I'm going to take a jab for not winning a chip.
00:12:36So, I think it's like 24 to three or something, 24 to five or.
00:12:41Sig had won everywhere.
00:12:43He was just like, given his resume, his quote on PMT was awesome too.
00:12:47I don't know if we've talked about it.
00:12:48I got a bigger gun?
00:12:49Yeah.
00:12:50No, I mean, here, I think.
00:12:51This guy says, if you want to, if you want to, you don't want to win championships, go to Indiana.
00:12:55That's the most asinine thing you could possibly say.
00:12:58It's also just an awkward sentence.
00:13:00That's the biggest clown.
00:13:01Yeah.
00:13:01It just feels like he's trying to convince himself that he should be.
00:13:04Yeah.
00:13:04I think it's sad because he takes a shot in Indiana that could not have been more poorly worded
00:13:10or more poorly timed, given that they just put together the first perfect season
00:13:14we've seen in the 12-team playoff era and became maybe the greatest college football story
00:13:19of all time.
00:13:20But the other sad part is, like Cate said, he's doing it to try to have his Cignetti moment.
00:13:25Yeah.
00:13:25Yeah.
00:13:25But he has none of the charisma.
00:13:27And if you'll notice, Cignetti just said, I win.
00:13:30He never talked about championships specifically.
00:13:32Like, his wording was careful.
00:13:34Purdue sucks.
00:13:34And you know what?
00:13:35Ohio State and Michigan, they suck too.
00:13:38Like, you got to keep it simple.
00:13:39And you got to have even an ounce of charisma or confidence.
00:13:42Yeah, that's the thing.
00:13:43As he was reading off of a script, he didn't even have belief in the words that he was
00:13:50uttering.
00:13:50And it was so obvious.
00:13:52I need Indiana to hit him with the messy meme now.
00:13:54Just give him, like, the nodding head.
00:13:57Yeah.
00:13:57You know he was standing in front of his mirror being like, I'm going to crush this.
00:14:02Who's your boss if you're the AD?
00:14:04Is it the president of the school?
00:14:05Yeah.
00:14:05He should fire him.
00:14:07Today.
00:14:08It's crazy, but, like, this is damn near fireball.
00:14:12He should be fired today.
00:14:13Listen.
00:14:14I don't call for people's jobs, but that's the dumbest possible thing you could possibly
00:14:19say on day one.
00:14:20I'd probably be very close to being six feet under before I even thought about taking a
00:14:26job at this institution.
00:14:28But, I mean, you've got to do it.
00:14:31This is just, what do you, like, this is the biggest clown show at, I can't even form
00:14:40thoughts because this guy's just so dumb that he just takes a shot.
00:14:46He's making you sound dumb.
00:14:47I bet you he walked into this press conference and they were like, say something about Indiana
00:14:53because they're our biggest rival.
00:14:55And then you just say, that's your thing?
00:14:59Either that or he walked in and they go, who are you again?
00:15:01Do you have a question?
00:15:02I guess he's in the news, you know?
00:15:06He made waves.
00:15:07Listen.
00:15:07Yeah, he made some waves.
00:15:08But just the waves that you don't want to make.
00:15:11Right.
00:15:11You could have said Indiana sucks, could have said you hate Indiana, you could have said
00:15:15a million things.
00:15:16Or just, like, we're commenting for it.
00:15:17You chose the one, not a fact that happened seven months ago that we won a championship.
00:15:23You can't, like, try to take a jab at us for that.
00:15:27What does that even, that doesn't even make sense.
00:15:29You chose the one attack angle that was the only one you couldn't choose.
00:15:34Like, if you rolled a D20, you rolled a natural one there, McClellan.
00:15:38So, absolute disaster.
00:15:40But congratulations, Purdue.
00:15:41You've been, talked about a wing of Barstool for the first time.
00:15:43You've got ten minutes of a wing of Barstool.
00:15:45So, yeah.
00:15:46It's the most you'll ever get to talk about.
00:15:47Speaking of K-Dick, up next.
00:15:49Disgusting.
00:15:49But, dude.
00:15:50Disgusting.
00:15:51That was good, Megan.
00:15:52But now I'm thinking.
00:15:53Wrong color tonight.
00:15:54What if Indiana wins a natty?
00:15:55What if Indiana wins a natty?
00:15:58Purdue?
00:15:58No, sorry.
00:15:58What if Purdue wins a natty?
00:15:59Yep, Purdue wins a natty.
00:16:01Sorry.
00:16:04Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:16:05Right now, we are pleased to be joined by Lauren Chihadi of the MLB Network.
00:16:09And now, Netflix as well.
00:16:11Because, guys.
00:16:12The Field of Dreams game is coming back Thursday, August 13th.
00:16:177.30 Eastern special coverage.
00:16:20Beginning hour before that at 6.30.
00:16:22Lauren, thank you so much for joining us this morning.
00:16:24Good morning.
00:16:25I'm thrilled to be with you.
00:16:27So, take us behind the scenes here.
00:16:29How did this all come about for you personally?
00:16:33We know that right now, Netflix, they want to be in sports.
00:16:36But a lot of these contracts kind of bought up, right?
00:16:38So, they're not being volume shooters.
00:16:40They're taking these specific events.
00:16:42They're highlighting.
00:16:43They're trying to do them just to the top degree.
00:16:46How did it come about that you got the call to be involved here?
00:16:49Oh, it was a thrill.
00:16:50Honestly, I work at MLB Network and I work for TBS on Tuesday Night Baseball and March Madness and postseason.
00:16:56And they were trying to get a group of baseball people together in interspersed entertainment in it.
00:17:03So, I got the call and I thought, this is really cool.
00:17:06And it's been a different, awesome experience.
00:17:08It's been baseball.
00:17:10You know, we're baseball purists.
00:17:11I'm a baseball girl.
00:17:12I grew up, you know, at the Little League field.
00:17:15So, to have that with a little bit of entertainment value in it, they just treat it like a Super
00:17:21Bowl every single event.
00:17:23It's been fun.
00:17:24So, Lauren, this is going to be the first time this game takes place in four years.
00:17:28Twins Phillies are going to be live from Dyersville, Iowa.
00:17:31Do you have any insight as to maybe some of the changes or upgrades that have been made to, like,
00:17:35facilities, anything around the town in the intervening time?
00:17:39Oh, my gosh.
00:17:40You're grilling me on Iowa.
00:17:41I don't know.
00:17:42I'm getting here Tuesday for the first time.
00:17:45I'm actually getting to talk to Don Mattingly and Preston Mattingly, GM and manager of the Phillies.
00:17:51I'm going tomorrow to Citizens Bank Park.
00:17:53So, there's such a father-son component to this.
00:17:58I told you I grew up on the Little League field.
00:17:59I remember my dad would just drop me off, right?
00:18:02And I'm sure so many of you can relate.
00:18:04We had snow cones and we had hot dogs and that was it.
00:18:07I was on the baseball fields from when I was young.
00:18:11And I just remember, you know, so many of us grew up in the backyard with our parents, moms or
00:18:15dads or uncles or aunts.
00:18:16And I just remember my dad would always keep score for my baseball games and I would play first base.
00:18:21And if there was a ball, you know, rolling to me and I didn't get it, he'd look at me
00:18:25and go, E3.
00:18:26Like, I'm like, Dad, I wasn't supposed to get that.
00:18:29He's like, you pick up your teammates.
00:18:31Just, that's a life lesson.
00:18:33So, I feel like so many life lessons for me were learned on the baseball field.
00:18:36So, this is kind of nostalgic, this game.
00:18:39I'm excited.
00:18:40Well, Lauren, are there some things you're looking forward to getting to Iowa?
00:18:43It's a beautiful state.
00:18:46I've never been.
00:18:47But, like, getting to the ballpark, like, what are you most looking forward to?
00:18:50I'm coming out of that corn.
00:18:51That's for darn sure.
00:18:52July by the 4th of July.
00:18:55We are staying in a hotel about an hour away, so I don't know the logistics of the field.
00:19:02And I know that there's limited seating.
00:19:04And if you go and try to buy a ticket already, it's very scarce.
00:19:08You cannot, it's not like there's hundreds of tickets to this game.
00:19:11It feels very intimate.
00:19:13The players, you talk to a couple of the players, I talk to a couple of the Phillies,
00:19:16and they say, you know, 162 is such a beautiful grind.
00:19:20Yeah.
00:19:21Oh, look at this.
00:19:22Way back, bottom of the ninth.
00:19:23That's Tim Anderson.
00:19:24This was a moment.
00:19:25This was a moment.
00:19:26This was a moment.
00:19:27Drop the bat.
00:19:28That's so cool.
00:19:29That is so cool.
00:19:30You know, and he dreamt of that when he was young, I'm sure.
00:19:33So many people did.
00:19:35But I talked to a couple of the Phillies, and they say it's a beautiful grind of 162.
00:19:39And you know this.
00:19:40That can wear on you, right?
00:19:42It's the day games in August.
00:19:45It's the dog days at some point.
00:19:48And this is just a moment in time that takes you back to your baseball roots.
00:19:53And for players to get excited, really excited about a singular game is cool in a grueling
00:19:59baseball schedule.
00:20:01So the game's going to be fantastic.
00:20:04I'm sure the production's going to be wild.
00:20:06It's Netflix.
00:20:07It's going to be cinematic.
00:20:08There's going to be special appearances.
00:20:11They're going to be way better than my camera work right now.
00:20:14I'm like, I'm crooked.
00:20:15I promise you the broadcast is going to be perfect.
00:20:18Because I'm like, right now, I'm looking at my camera shot.
00:20:20No, it's a very insane asylum-coded room that you're in as well, right?
00:20:28Blink if you need help.
00:20:29Yeah, exactly.
00:20:31But look, so the game's going to be awesome.
00:20:32I can't wait to see what it has in store.
00:20:33Let's talk, though, just a little bit about what's going on in the majors right now.
00:20:38You mentioned the Phillies.
00:20:39What a year they've had, firing the manager early on, getting red hot.
00:20:44They bring in a rise.
00:20:45Do you think the Phillies have a chance of catching the Braves in that NL East race?
00:20:49Woo!
00:20:50Well, it was ten and a half games, and then it got down to three,
00:20:53and now we're somewhere in the middle.
00:20:54I am a Phillies fan.
00:20:55I've picked them to win the World Series for four straight years,
00:20:58was the definition of insanity, doing the same thing, expecting a different result.
00:21:01But I've covered baseball for 15 years, and I know that October pitching is king.
00:21:06And I do feel like that rotation, you drive to the yard right now,
00:21:10and you're facing Sanchez, you're facing Christopher Sanchez,
00:21:13and Zach Wheeler, and Jesus Lozardo, and the hitters don't want to, right?
00:21:17It's a deadly combination.
00:21:19They have every component.
00:21:20They have the star power.
00:21:21I think bullpen help was something that they looked at at the trade deadline.
00:21:27But yeah, I'm a believer in the Phillies.
00:21:30I mean, right now, going into yesterday, it would have been, get this,
00:21:34the Dodgers, and the Phillies, for a three-game wildcard series.
00:21:38Think about that.
00:21:39Damn, that's crazy.
00:21:41That's crazy.
00:21:43So starting pitching is king.
00:21:44Obviously, the Dodgers have it as well.
00:21:46They just got more in the form of Tarek Skubel.
00:21:48But yes, I'm a believer in the Phillies, and it's a big game for the Twins.
00:21:51They're right on the fringe of the wildcard race,
00:21:53and the wildcard race in the AL is bananas, so it's anyone's game.
00:21:58Yeah, speaking of the wildcard in the AL,
00:22:00one of the biggest storylines right now is obviously the Boston Red Sox.
00:22:04What has changed?
00:22:05What is going on over at Fenway?
00:22:07What in the world is happening?
00:22:09It's the dirty water.
00:22:11I don't know.
00:22:12I don't know.
00:22:13I mean, we looked at this lineup in March, and we said,
00:22:15how are they getting pop?
00:22:17How are they getting productive at bats outside of Wilson Contreras?
00:22:22Garrett Crochet is not even back.
00:22:24They're talking about bringing him out of the bullpen when he does come back.
00:22:27The pitching's been great.
00:22:28Sonny Gray should have been an all-star.
00:22:29I don't know how this lineup is doing it.
00:22:32They watched a really good man in Alex Cora walk out the door,
00:22:35and I think sometimes, and I think you could say the same about the Phillies
00:22:39with Rob Thompson, sometimes when a good man has to lose his job over,
00:22:43you kind of look inward, you look internally,
00:22:46and maybe that's, baseball's a wild, wild sport.
00:22:49We were talking about them as they were left for dead,
00:22:51and now they're the hottest team in the American League and in baseball,
00:22:54so it's been a complete turnabout for the Red Sox.
00:22:58Shifting over to the National League, Pete Crow Armstrong had another incredible moment
00:23:03in extra innings yesterday.
00:23:04Where do we stand with the MVP race in the National League, him versus Otani?
00:23:08Okay, hear me out, because I cover the awards dinner every year in New York
00:23:14when Shohei's been handed the trophy, back-to-back years.
00:23:19I feel like there should be some romanticism about baseball,
00:23:24and PCA's endearing himself to the fans at Wrigley.
00:23:29They're eating out of the palm of his hand, and I cannot take my eyes off of him.
00:23:34Yeah.
00:23:35You're so, he has, you know, everyone says he has it.
00:23:38I don't know how you quantify it.
00:23:40He has it.
00:23:41It's everything.
00:23:42It's twitchy.
00:23:43It's the way his body moves.
00:23:45I'm really big on body movement.
00:23:46We watch, you know, we've watched games our whole lives, and he just moves.
00:23:50Look at him.
00:23:51He moves different.
00:23:52It's body awareness.
00:23:54It's thrill for the moment, the dramatics.
00:23:57Watch.
00:23:57When he bat flipped the other day, and he, instead of bat flipping, guys,
00:24:02he just laid the bat down.
00:24:03Like, I'm tired.
00:24:04I'm tired of carrying this team.
00:24:06He's got swag and star power.
00:24:10My vote is for PCA right now.
00:24:12Yeah, he's been incredible.
00:24:14He does everything.
00:24:16Yeah, he does everything.
00:24:17I mean, the speed, like Lauren's kind of alluded to there, the defense,
00:24:21and then now the offensive firepower, nailing lefties.
00:24:24He's been unreal.
00:24:25Lauren, I was reading through your Wikipedia earlier.
00:24:29Did you used to intern on the Best Damn Sports Show?
00:24:32Yes, from Chris Rose and Arnold and Sally.
00:24:38These young guys, I mean, do you remember the Best Damn Sports Show?
00:24:43He wasn't even a lot.
00:24:44He's 23, Lauren.
00:24:4525?
00:24:46But, I mean.
00:24:47I'm also 23.
00:24:48Oh, that's crazy.
00:24:49Geez, look at you.
00:24:51I'm out of turns on the table.
00:24:53Best Damn Sports Show, that was the original guys sitting around
00:24:57in recliners talking sports show.
00:24:59True.
00:24:59Who was you, guys?
00:25:01Who was you?
00:25:02I love a good recliners.
00:25:03Do you have any good memories from intern at Best Damn back in the day?
00:25:07No, I just remember getting Chris Rose his coffee and saying,
00:25:10one day I want to be there.
00:25:11And then when I walked into MLB Network for my first day,
00:25:14and he was hosting a show, I was thinking, my dream just came true.
00:25:19Like, I wanted to work there, you know, 20 years ago,
00:25:22and now I'm here.
00:25:24So, it was kind of full circle for me.
00:25:26But that was a wild, wild group.
00:25:28You should have said, now it's your turn to get me coffee.
00:25:30Yeah, I'm on Netflix now, okay?
00:25:36It's not lost on me, I'll tell you that much.
00:25:38My first job was in Minot, North Dakota, and I made $9,000 a year,
00:25:42and I would carry my camera into Saskatchewan, Canada,
00:25:45and shoot JV ice hockey.
00:25:47You guys know this.
00:25:47You know the dream and the grind.
00:25:49And I feel like, my gosh, every day I work at MLB Network,
00:25:56and then Tuesdays I fly to Atlanta to do Tuesday Night Baseball,
00:25:59and then Wednesday on the Red Eye and back.
00:26:00And I'm always thinking, you know that quote they say,
00:26:04what a gift to be tired from the work you once dreamt of?
00:26:08Oh, I love that.
00:26:09I feel that.
00:26:09I've never heard of that.
00:26:10I really feel that.
00:26:12That's awesome.
00:26:12What a gift to be tired from the work I just dreamt of.
00:26:17So from shooting JV hockey in one of the Dakotas
00:26:20to now you're going to be on Netflix,
00:26:23Field of Dreams game, legendary setting.
00:26:26It's a hell of a journey.
00:26:28Was there ever a moment where you kind of wanted to quit
00:26:33or you wanted to give up?
00:26:35Ever a moment, yeah.
00:26:37Yeah.
00:26:40I would work overnights.
00:26:42I mean, everyone can relate to this.
00:26:43I know you guys can, you know, work overnight.
00:26:45And I would put my, I remember getting a VHS tape.
00:26:50I'm aging myself, but I would make 100 VHS tapes
00:26:52and I sent them out to every station
00:26:54and I would send pizza to the top 10 that I wanted
00:26:57because I was like, if I send this newsroom a pizza,
00:26:59they're going to at least watch my tape.
00:27:01So I sent a pizza and, you know,
00:27:03and the news directors would call, thanks for the pizza.
00:27:05And I was like, you know, because there's a stack of VHS tapes.
00:27:08I had to get noticed somehow.
00:27:09And I got one call back out of 100.
00:27:12It was from Minot, North Dakota, $9,000 a year.
00:27:16I moved there.
00:27:17It was negative 40 degrees.
00:27:18I'm a DC girl.
00:27:18So I was like, what am I doing here?
00:27:20But I learned from the best and I learned to be part of a team
00:27:24and stay so humble because it takes everyone to make a broadcast.
00:27:29So, yeah, it's just a wild, it's been a wild ride.
00:27:34That's really amazing.
00:27:35Like anybody out there listening, I think can kind of relate to that,
00:27:40be inspired by that.
00:27:41I'll take a pizza.
00:27:42100 VHS tapes.
00:27:45I was like, I'm not above bribing.
00:27:47I'm going to buy you a pizza and you're going to watch my darn tape.
00:27:50Yep.
00:27:50Okay, if I was to ask you a very sports-talky question here, Lauren,
00:27:54on the way out, Dodgers overwhelming favor from an odds perspective
00:27:57to win the World Series, but it is baseball.
00:28:00It goes sideways.
00:28:01There are challengers.
00:28:02Who do you believe to be the greatest challengers to the Dodgers
00:28:06assumed three-peat to be?
00:28:08In the National League or overall?
00:28:10Overall, it can be anybody that you think is an actual real threat
00:28:14to take them out.
00:28:14I go with pitching always.
00:28:16I had it in the beginning of the year.
00:28:18I said Phillies, Yankees.
00:28:20I need a 1-2-3 that is locked down.
00:28:23That can give me eight, seven solid innings.
00:28:26Like seven innings, one run, and I need three of them.
00:28:29That's what I look for.
00:28:31And I would say the Phillies and the Yankees right now.
00:28:34There you go.
00:28:35Lord Jihadi, catch your August 13th.
00:28:36The Field of Dreams game is back, guys.
00:28:38The game starts at 7.30.
00:28:40Cover starts at 6.30.
00:28:41It's on Netflix.
00:28:42It's going to be fantastic.
00:28:43Lord, thank you so much for sharing your time and your story with us.
00:28:46Thank you, Lord.
00:28:47Very awesome.
00:28:47It's an honor, guys.
00:28:49Thank you so much.
00:28:50You're the best.
00:28:52Yeah, I was thinking about best damn sports show this morning.
00:28:55Dude, such a good show.
00:28:56That was a good show.
00:28:57It was fun.
00:28:58That was a good show.
00:28:59We should actually watch that show for, like, inspiration.
00:29:04Welcome back to Hour 2 of Wake Up Barstool.
00:29:06It is time for Smash or Pass.
00:29:08Look at the man in the middle right there, guys.
00:29:10I'm back.
00:29:11I'm back.
00:29:12You look really skinny on this.
00:29:15Yeah?
00:29:16Yeah.
00:29:16Yeah, Dana.
00:29:17Look at that.
00:29:18Yeah.
00:29:19Look at that, dude.
00:29:21That's good.
00:29:21A little bit of nip, but that's fine.
00:29:23A little hominy.
00:29:24Go back to the wide shot.
00:29:25That's very fine.
00:29:26You look so smooth.
00:29:28This is good angles for me.
00:29:32All right.
00:29:32So, Max is our sandwich sage, allegedly.
00:29:36I think he sucks, but whatever.
00:29:38Oh, Poe Boy.
00:29:38That's not the French Pro Boy, guys.
00:29:40I like Max.
00:29:41I hate that he got rid of French Pro Boy.
00:29:42Let's do a little recap of what's happened thus far.
00:29:46Week one, we did the breadbasket region.
00:29:49Deli Italian really cruised.
00:29:52Nary an upset on the docket until Cuban beat Reuben,
00:29:56but Deli Italian rolled into the final four.
00:29:59Week two, the deep-friared smoker region.
00:30:03This is where disaster struck.
00:30:05Poe Boy eliminated second round by the turkey club,
00:30:08only to then be cucked by the cutlet.
00:30:10This chicken cutlet makes it into that final four.
00:30:14And then finally, week three, the flat-iron chop grill region.
00:30:19Philly cheesesteak, which...
00:30:21Strong region.
00:30:22If the sage has his way, very likely we should just stop doing all of this.
00:30:27Yeah.
00:30:27I mean, he's going to bully you all into it.
00:30:30Philly cheesesteak advances it.
00:30:31Now it's time to head to the delicatessen.
00:30:34Okay.
00:30:35Region four.
00:30:37There you see it right here, guys.
00:30:39Oh, wow.
00:30:40And we'll start...
00:30:41These are pretty strong here.
00:30:43We'll start with the BLT versus the classic ham and cheese.
00:30:46The vaguest view, the BLT relies on the holy trinity of bacon, lettuce, tomato, ham, and cheese is reliable.
00:30:51It's a good spread.
00:30:51But predictable.
00:30:53It's going to need a legendary performance to stay within 10.
00:30:56I am going to go ahead and start off a good BLT.
00:31:00Like, if the bacon and, like, a homegrown tomato, crispy lettuce.
00:31:03If it's the right BLT, it would be on, like, a death row meal for me.
00:31:07I have a lot, but I'm going BLT.
00:31:09See, I like a thick, thick-cut bacon, but a thin tomato.
00:31:15Yes.
00:31:16Yeah, I'm not a tomato guy.
00:31:17Ooh, disagree, disagree.
00:31:19I'm not a tomato guy.
00:31:20I'm not a tomato guy.
00:31:21If it's a good tomato, I want to...
00:31:23If I'm going to do a BLT, I'm going to do a thin tomato.
00:31:25We don't want it too thick, though.
00:31:27No, but, like, if it's, like, one of the tomatoes that you can smell before you even cut into it,
00:31:31like, I want it to be meaty.
00:31:32Are we talking, like, an inch?
00:31:33The tomato's got to be there.
00:31:35Yeah.
00:31:35But do you want, like, an inch or a half an inch thickness?
00:31:38No.
00:31:39Less than an inch.
00:31:40Okay, okay.
00:31:41I'm just making sure we're on the same page.
00:31:42Okay, okay.
00:31:43But, like, I want to feel the tomato.
00:31:46Like, this is a summer sandwich.
00:31:47You put a little salt and pepper, olive oil.
00:31:50You got to season that tomato before you put it on the sandwich.
00:31:53It's a great call.
00:31:54And then you got to feel the juices from that tomato.
00:31:56I don't want...
00:31:56If I'm eating a BLT, there's only three ingredients.
00:32:00You got to have the tea.
00:32:01Is it too much?
00:32:03I almost said L.
00:32:05But mayo?
00:32:06Can we...
00:32:07Oh, yeah, mayo.
00:32:07No, no, no.
00:32:08Heavy, mayo.
00:32:09Mayo's big.
00:32:09Heavy, big.
00:32:10You have to.
00:32:11But are we...
00:32:12How much...
00:32:13Is there a thing that's too much bacon?
00:32:15No.
00:32:15No.
00:32:15Not in a BLT.
00:32:16Yeah, BLT.
00:32:17In other sandwiches, actually, yes.
00:32:19Yes.
00:32:19Not in a BLT.
00:32:20Shout out Crown Candy in St. Louis.
00:32:22You want a bacon-y BLT?
00:32:23That's the best one I've ever had in my life.
00:32:25Wow.
00:32:26All right, so BLT, guys, it's clean sweet.
00:32:27Hold on.
00:32:28Hold on.
00:32:28No, no, no, no.
00:32:29I just told you about what I like in a BLT.
00:32:31Oh, God.
00:32:31My bad.
00:32:32Here comes Dana.
00:32:32I'm taking the ham and cheese as well.
00:32:35Wait, what?
00:32:36Yeah.
00:32:36If you gave me...
00:32:37If you put two plates in front of me that said ham and cheese or BLT, I'm picking the ham
00:32:41and cheese.
00:32:41Like a hot ham and cheese with like a ton of mustard, also some tomato.
00:32:46Toss some chips on there, maybe?
00:32:46That, that's...
00:32:48Uh-oh.
00:32:48That's an awesome sandwich for me.
00:32:51Also, underratedly, light sandwich.
00:32:53Yeah, true.
00:32:54Light sandwich, because you got the...
00:32:55You go mustard instead of mayo.
00:32:57Yes.
00:32:57You press it down, it's nice and...
00:33:00I'm a ham and cheese guy.
00:33:02Yeah, I was going to say.
00:33:02Is he a melt version of that, too?
00:33:04Oh, yeah.
00:33:05Yeah.
00:33:05I'm giving the BLT the slight nod, but I'm not mad about an upset here.
00:33:11Like, I'm not mad about it.
00:33:12Okay, Chief, where are you at here?
00:33:13We're 2-2.
00:33:13This is like the peak of the BLT is better than your best ham and cheese, but the ham and
00:33:18cheese is so consistent.
00:33:19It's so good every time.
00:33:21I love a ham and cheese.
00:33:22I've had probably more of those in my life.
00:33:24That was a school lunch, I don't know, 75% of the time.
00:33:27I think I'm going ham and cheese.
00:33:28Oh, boy.
00:33:29Wow!
00:33:30I'm not mad about it.
00:33:31Wow.
00:33:31Listen, I'm not mad about it.
00:33:33Wow.
00:33:33I'm not mad about it, because I don't like tomato.
00:33:35I don't like tomato.
00:33:36I'm not mad about it.
00:33:36Oh, boy, King is pissed.
00:33:37See, I love BLTs.
00:33:39They're, like, so good.
00:33:40That's an 8-1 upset.
00:33:42Oh, I'm feeling juicy on this board right now, by the way.
00:33:45Ham and cheese was a play-in team, and now here they advance, knocking out the one seed
00:33:49BLT.
00:33:50I think y'all are dumb as hell, but, hey, more power to you.
00:33:53French dip versus steak sandwich, guys.
00:33:55French dip.
00:33:56French dip.
00:33:56French dip.
00:33:57French dip is...
00:33:58Oh, elite.
00:33:59Elite.
00:33:59A French dip might sweep this whole board.
00:34:01I didn't want to say that yet, but I did.
00:34:04A little bit of, like, horseradish aioli.
00:34:07What's all in a French...
00:34:08I've had French...
00:34:09But what's all in a...
00:34:09Like, a horseradish aioli, usually, like, a melted provolone or, like, a...
00:34:13Caramelized onions.
00:34:14Yeah, then you're dipping...
00:34:15Oh, jus.
00:34:17A little heavy.
00:34:18You're a little heavy.
00:34:20Oh, yeah.
00:34:22Dang.
00:34:23French dip, honestly.
00:34:24Not even the fattest guy on the show right now.
00:34:26Yeah.
00:34:27You're not even close.
00:34:28You set me up for that.
00:34:29I got to.
00:34:29Who are you alluding to?
00:34:31Nobody, not Dana anymore.
00:34:34He's just getting out.
00:34:35I'm also in the 240s.
00:34:36Get the hell out of here.
00:34:37That doesn't make sense.
00:34:38I said 250, I'm also in the...
00:34:41Those are stupid for numbers.
00:34:44He's no longer fat.
00:34:45Now nothing you say, man.
00:34:47That's a...
00:34:47That's an ability.
00:34:49No longer fat, but he still has a fat, stupid brain.
00:34:51All right, French dip sweeps.
00:34:53Banh mi roast pork.
00:34:55360 here.
00:34:56I've had one.
00:34:57I think I had a bad one.
00:34:58Ooh, I like banh mi.
00:34:59It's like a Vietnamese.
00:35:00Like a steamed bun?
00:35:01I had one.
00:35:02It was...
00:35:03I think bad banh mi are really, really bad.
00:35:06Really bad.
00:35:07Yes.
00:35:07Can I look it up?
00:35:08Can I look it up?
00:35:08Yeah.
00:35:09It's got like cucumbers, like a cucumber, a carrot salad.
00:35:13There's like meat.
00:35:14They don't suck at all.
00:35:15I'm going to go roast pork.
00:35:16I'm going to go roast pork.
00:35:16They don't suck.
00:35:17The Philly roast pork sandwich is a fantastic.
00:35:19Yeah, roast pork.
00:35:20Oh, yeah.
00:35:21I've never heard of roast pork.
00:35:21It's a fantastic sandwich.
00:35:23Too much vegetables.
00:35:24Oh, no.
00:35:25There's vegetables on.
00:35:25There's vegetables on the roast pork.
00:35:27No, but this is too much.
00:35:28Yeah, there's like cucumber.
00:35:30I've never had a banh mi to be good.
00:35:32If you want something like really light, like a good banh mi is good, but...
00:35:35I'm in on roast pork.
00:35:37Banh mi should be on the board.
00:35:38You can give me banh mi.
00:35:38I like a banh mi.
00:35:40Yeah, I mean, look.
00:35:42Vegas had this one nailed.
00:35:44They said,
00:35:44The Philadelphia side roast pork countered with sharp provolone and broccoli rabe is the
00:35:48quintessential sharp better darling.
00:35:51Yeah, right.
00:35:51So if you had roast pork with the upset, good call.
00:35:54Spread out tuna.
00:35:54Lobster roll versus PB&J.
00:35:56Is it a cold lobster roll or hot lobster roll?
00:35:58It's Facts's fundamentals rule the day here.
00:36:00Lobster.
00:36:00I mean...
00:36:01I don't know.
00:36:01What do you think?
00:36:02What's better?
00:36:02I like hot lobster rolls better than cold lobster rolls.
00:36:05Agreed.
00:36:05Agreed.
00:36:06I had one last weekend.
00:36:07So we'll say it's a warm lobster roll.
00:36:08Warm lobster roll, but it's just...
00:36:11The quality just blows it out of the water.
00:36:13Wait, what happened to all your everyday run the football sandwich talk, right?
00:36:16I mean, PB&J, it's the classic.
00:36:18It never fails.
00:36:19Blah, blah, blah.
00:36:20All the arguments Max used.
00:36:22I have something to say.
00:36:23If you have access to a lobster roll, a fresh lobster roll every single day, I would run
00:36:30the football with a lobster roll.
00:36:33That's not a heavy sandwich.
00:36:35Like, it's either a little bit of butter, a little bit of mayo.
00:36:37The lobster's light.
00:36:38There's no cheese.
00:36:39And the bread.
00:36:40Yeah, the bread is soft.
00:36:41That's crispy, soft.
00:36:42The lobster roll can run the football.
00:36:45You're not feeling...
00:36:46No one's eating a lobster roll and walking out of lunch being like, oh, I feel so oversatiated.
00:36:53The lobster roll can for sure go between the tackles.
00:36:57Lobster roll.
00:36:58I stayed corrected.
00:36:59I just got smashed.
00:37:01How do you argue with that?
00:37:02Lobster roll.
00:37:03Lobster.
00:37:04Lobster.
00:37:05I'll give PB&J a vote.
00:37:07There you go.
00:37:09Even being from Mass?
00:37:10I know.
00:37:11I'm not like...
00:37:12I'm not obsessed with lobster roll.
00:37:14Oh, he's freaked out by lobster roll.
00:37:16No, I just...
00:37:16Seafood.
00:37:17I'm not a big seafood guy.
00:37:18You're seafood.
00:37:19You're from...
00:37:20Oh, no, no, I'm from...
00:37:21I'm from here.
00:37:23It doesn't matter.
00:37:23You're from Philly.
00:37:24Does that mean you like...
00:37:28You were in London last week.
00:37:30Yes.
00:37:31Are you guys lobster over crab guys or crab over lobster?
00:37:35I'm crab over lobster.
00:37:36I think it depends on how I'm eating it.
00:37:38Like, instead of like a crab...
00:37:39I would rather a lobster roll than a crab roll.
00:37:41But like, if I'm like having a bunch of blue crabs in front of me...
00:37:44Meat, meat, just meat.
00:37:45Meat, meat.
00:37:46I think I'm going crab too.
00:37:48Yeah.
00:37:48But a lobster roll, like...
00:37:49Right.
00:37:50I'm just going meat.
00:37:51Just talking meat.
00:37:51I'll take any crustacean.
00:37:53Yeah.
00:37:54Ham and cheese versus French dip.
00:37:56The 8C.
00:37:56Can they continue?
00:37:57French dip.
00:37:58Wow.
00:37:58I think French dip's taken the floor.
00:37:59Ham and cheese had its run.
00:38:01I think this is crazy.
00:38:02French dip is such a...
00:38:05It's such a...
00:38:06Not gimmick.
00:38:07That's not the right word.
00:38:07But it's kind of the opposite of what you just described, Max.
00:38:09This is one where you want to fight...
00:38:12I'm saying a French dip is one where like you...
00:38:14You cannot eat that very often.
00:38:17Oh, for sure not.
00:38:18It's...
00:38:18But they're so good.
00:38:19But when you do, it's such a treat.
00:38:21It's such a treat.
00:38:22There's this...
00:38:22It's just like a cheese steak.
00:38:24I will say that one's hard to mess up in my opinion.
00:38:26Like you know exactly what you're going to get every single time.
00:38:29Like it might not be the best of it, but the taste is relatively the same.
00:38:33I see French dip on menu.
00:38:34I get French dip.
00:38:36I...
00:38:37I...
00:38:37I...
00:38:38I...
00:38:38I...
00:38:39I...
00:38:39F...
00:38:39D...
00:38:40I...
00:38:41G...
00:38:41F...
00:38:42D.
00:38:42You actually texted me like...
00:38:44Yeah, I asked your opinion for a French dip.
00:38:46Yeah.
00:38:46Like the first week you moved here, you're like, I need a French dip for the wagon.
00:38:49I absolutely love them.
00:38:50They're wonderful.
00:38:51They're excellent.
00:38:52I love that French dip.
00:38:53French dip.
00:38:53What about...
00:38:54Well, actually, I'll save that for...
00:38:55I'll save that question for the next round since it advances.
00:38:58French dip.
00:38:58All right.
00:38:58Roast pork versus lobster roll.
00:39:00I'm going lobster roll again here.
00:39:02Max, a minute I see how you handle this.
00:39:03This is a Philadelphia-style roast pork.
00:39:06I...
00:39:07It's a lobster roll.
00:39:08Listen, I understand that the lobster roll is probably a better sandwich all the way around,
00:39:15but a roast pork, to me, is a very, very special sandwich.
00:39:19It's very similar to the cheesesteak.
00:39:22You get the same bread.
00:39:23It's a different sort of cheese.
00:39:24It's a sharp provolone cheese, which, if you think you know provolone cheese,
00:39:29but you've never had sharp provolone cheese, you don't know sharp provolone cheese.
00:39:32It's a completely different...
00:39:34Wait, I don't think I've ever had sharp provolone cheese.
00:39:54So there's a little bit of moistness when you get it out of the pot.
00:39:58I'm going roast pork sandwich, but listen.
00:40:01You gotta have a sandwich podcast.
00:40:02I understand what the lobster roll is.
00:40:03Yeah, dude.
00:40:03The lobster roll is a...
00:40:05I think I know food, and then Max describes it, and I'm like, wow.
00:40:10I don't think I know anything on planet Earth as well as Max.
00:40:13Like, you should quit and be a food influence.
00:40:15I love sandwiches.
00:40:16I think you just convinced me to take roast pork over lobster roll.
00:40:21Yeah, I've never even had one.
00:40:23I've never had...
00:40:24Roast pork, I'm taking roast pork.
00:40:27I'm taking roast pork as well.
00:40:29T-Bob is disgusted in the way I'm taking roast.
00:40:32No, no, no.
00:40:32No, no, no.
00:40:33Entire operation here.
00:40:34I've now come all the way back around.
00:40:37I'm full burgundy.
00:40:38I'm not even mad.
00:40:39I'm impressed.
00:40:40The passion, the oratory.
00:40:42Like, that's the power of words, guys.
00:40:44Meg, are you...
00:40:45Do you have a...
00:40:46I'm going lobster roll.
00:40:47I mean, I've never had the roast pork from Philly.
00:40:50I'm sure it's fantastic.
00:40:52However, I have had lots of lobster rolls,
00:40:54and I also just love seafood in general.
00:40:57I am going lobster roll.
00:40:59All right.
00:40:59So, roast pork advances.
00:41:01This is a 4-6.
00:41:03Very unexpected.
00:41:04The delicatessen region has upset the proverbial apple cart.
00:41:09I give my proxy to Max.
00:41:11No, no, no.
00:41:12No, no, no.
00:41:13No.
00:41:13You cannot.
00:41:14You can't.
00:41:15No.
00:41:15Okay.
00:41:16Opening arguments.
00:41:18Katie.
00:41:19For these two?
00:41:20Yep.
00:41:21Can I just say something off the top?
00:41:23Yeah, of course.
00:41:23That's what I asked you to do.
00:41:24I don't like this.
00:41:25Literally what I asked you to do.
00:41:27Sorry.
00:41:28I don't like this whole region.
00:41:29I'll just say that.
00:41:30What?
00:41:30What's wrong with this region?
00:41:31I don't like this region.
00:41:32You don't like any of these sandwiches?
00:41:34It's...
00:41:34They're not my...
00:41:35They're not even...
00:41:36Yeah.
00:41:36About your cup of tea.
00:41:37Not my cup of tea.
00:41:38I love all of these.
00:41:39I'm going to...
00:41:39I know, but I just...
00:41:40I don't have...
00:41:41I have less experience with a lot of these.
00:41:43I'm just not big on them.
00:41:44But I'm going with the French dip.
00:41:46And that's my decision.
00:41:48Yeah, I'm following Dana's.
00:41:49If I see a French dip, I'm going to eat it.
00:41:51Yep.
00:41:51And that's where I'm going to go with this one.
00:41:53Okay.
00:41:54Give me the dipski.
00:41:54Two for French dip right now.
00:41:56I would ask a question, and I'll go to our expert, Max.
00:42:00Does it take away at all from a French dip that it needs a dipping sauce to achieve?
00:42:07Like, is that an advantage, or should we judge it harshly for that reason versus other sandwiches?
00:42:14I actually disagree.
00:42:14I don't think it...
00:42:15I'm asking.
00:42:16I'm just asking.
00:42:16If I'm eating a French dip, I'm probably doing every other of a bite, of a normal bite and a
00:42:23dip bite.
00:42:23Sometimes the dip gets a little too salty.
00:42:26It'll get too soggy.
00:42:27But then you go a couple more bites without the dip, and you're like, ah, I'm feeling the dip a
00:42:31little bit.
00:42:31So it's more of like...
00:42:33That makes sense.
00:42:33See, like, the au jus is so rich, but the horseradish, like, spread on it really cuts.
00:42:38So, like, again, as Max said, you dip it once, take a bite, take another bite, and you're like, oh,
00:42:43my mouth's a little bit horseradishy.
00:42:44Let me cut it back again.
00:42:46It's just...
00:42:46You're just making constant cuts with the French dip.
00:42:49I've been doing that with peanuts lately.
00:42:51Like, eating the peanuts normally, and then every fourth or fifth, eating the shell as well for a little extra
00:42:56burst of salt.
00:42:58The entire shell?
00:42:59Yeah, the entire shell.
00:43:01That's not similar at all.
00:43:02I think stew eats the entire shell.
00:43:03Yeah.
00:43:04No, it's the same thing.
00:43:05You're not dipping it in anything.
00:43:06We're talking about, like, an unedible thing compared to a French dip.
00:43:09No, it's like a less salty bite.
00:43:11You're out of this, Steve.
00:43:12I'm hot.
00:43:14All right.
00:43:15I love the only...
00:43:16Super French dip.
00:43:17Chief, where you at?
00:43:18I've never had the roast pork, so I'm going French dip.
00:43:20I would have gone French dip as well.
00:43:22Okay.
00:43:22The French dip's one of my favorite sandwiches.
00:43:24It's probably number two.
00:43:25Wow.
00:43:26I do want to try a sharp provolone now, though.
00:43:29French dip, the four seed, fights through the delicatessen region and becomes our last final four member.
00:43:36This was the right winner.
00:43:37Yeah.
00:43:38Yeah.
00:43:38I agree.
00:43:39So our final four is set.
00:43:40It's the deli Italian, the Philly cheesesteak, the chicken cutlet, and the French dip.
00:43:47Oh, so Max just has his four favorite sandwiches up there.
00:43:50Yeah.
00:43:50Yeah.
00:43:50I mean, I've completely hijacked this second thing to go.
00:43:54No, look, again, I think you have displayed an acumen and an expertise that justifies these decisions.
00:44:04Yeah.
00:44:05I'm nervous.
00:44:06Like, the final four, there's a lot of good sandwiches on that board.
00:44:10It's going to be...
00:44:10I'm going to have to, like, think about it.
00:44:12You're going to have to kill a sacred cow.
00:44:14Yeah, for sure.
00:44:14You're going to have to choose amongst your children.
00:44:16Yes, that is correct.
00:44:18Are you going to be here next Friday?
00:44:20Yeah.
00:44:21Okay, perfect.
00:44:22Just making sure.
00:44:22Because we would literally...
00:44:24Yeah, come on.
00:44:24I was going to say, we would literally push back the final four until you could make it.
00:44:29Yep.
00:44:29So next Friday, guys, we'll determine what the best sandwiches the world is here at Wigan Bar.
00:44:33So that's Max Salente.
00:44:35Thank you so much, Max.
00:44:37See you later.
00:44:37That's part of my take.
00:44:39Watch Bread Boys.
00:44:40Bread Boys.
00:44:41Man, I really hope Philly Cheesecake doesn't run into Deli Italian.
00:44:46All right, guys.
00:44:47He's just leaving.
00:44:49College football is coming up next.
00:44:51He's out.
00:44:52I'm out.
00:44:53He's going back to bed.
00:44:54He's out.
00:44:59Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:45:00Look at the big screen there, guys.
00:45:02You see those logos?
00:45:03Oh!
00:45:06That's right.
00:45:07Tints are being pitched throughout America
00:45:09as we look forward to the college football season this fall.
00:45:13You okay, Dana?
00:45:14All right.
00:45:15What happened?
00:45:16Yeah, they're terrible.
00:45:16I had a little bite of food in the middle of the break.
00:45:19What?
00:45:19It's stuck in my throat.
00:45:20What food?
00:45:20It's a whole big mess.
00:45:21We don't even have any food here in the studio.
00:45:23What did you have?
00:45:23I went and grabbed a little.
00:45:24No free ads, but I grabbed a little something-something.
00:45:27Okay.
00:45:28A little something-something.
00:45:28It's stuck in my throat.
00:45:29Just a little commercial break snacky?
00:45:31I'm about to sit this one out.
00:45:33Good luck.
00:45:33You have a little.
00:45:34You can flip the switch on your mic.
00:45:36No, I'm good.
00:45:37If you have a coffee attack.
00:45:38All right.
00:45:38Fuckball.
00:45:38So, what we're going to do here, guys, these are kind of the consensus best college football
00:45:43games we got coming up this season, as it stands now, right?
00:45:47By season's end, we'll have twists and turns that will determine things, but this is sexy
00:45:51as hell.
00:45:52Our goal in this segment is to whittle this list down to the Friday Wake Up Barstool top
00:45:58five games of the college football season.
00:46:02I think, hmm, is it better to start by highlighting the ones we think first?
00:46:08Are we sure are going to get in or to highlight the ones that we think are kind of the
00:46:11odd
00:46:12man out?
00:46:12I would say odd man out.
00:46:13I would go with Dana and say odd man out.
00:46:15Okay.
00:46:15Do you have one that jumps off the list, Meg?
00:46:17As far as odd man out?
00:46:19I actually see one that seems obvious.
00:46:21And say USC.
00:46:21And say USC.
00:46:22Yeah, right.
00:46:23Okay.
00:46:23We were all looking at it.
00:46:24So, that's mine.
00:46:25I like that game because I think it's an elimination game for the playoff.
00:46:29I think there will be a lot at stake.
00:46:31Lincoln Riley needs to, like, USC has never been to the college football playoff.
00:46:35No, Lincoln's been kind of a Brian Kelly level of disappointment there.
00:46:39Right.
00:46:39So, I think if you look at their schedule, if they can't win that game, they're looking
00:46:43at potentially another eight and four season.
00:46:45And then I wonder if the heat gets turned up on Lincoln Riley.
00:46:49But if you guys want to put that one off, I think among the ten, that one can win.
00:46:53The point remains, though, Chief, and it's a good one.
00:46:56Penn State's schedule is so easy.
00:46:58Yeah.
00:46:58That is one of the only trip-up spots for them.
00:47:01Like, this could be a Penn State team that is not the best that finds their way to the
00:47:04playoff nearly by schedule alone.
00:47:07I mean, look.
00:47:07That schedule is insane.
00:47:09Home versus USC at Michigan is the only other great challenge on there.
00:47:13And they're going to win a national championship.
00:47:14Oh, that's a good point, Meg.
00:47:15That's a good point.
00:47:16Yeah, I forgot about it.
00:47:17How can I forget about Purdue, dude?
00:47:20All right, so go back to the other graphic.
00:47:21We're going to go ahead and bye-bye.
00:47:23Good game, but bye-bye.
00:47:26Mikey, do you have one that you think should get cut from this list?
00:47:30One of mine was Michigan-Oklahoma.
00:47:33But just because it's the SEC Big Ten, I think those are so important,
00:47:37especially regular season.
00:47:38Yeah.
00:47:39But then again, looking at all these other ones,
00:47:43I want to see LSU-O-Miss.
00:47:45No, it's God's name.
00:47:48Storyline's Bo-Tuber.
00:47:49Oh, wait, sorry, sorry, sorry.
00:47:50Don't you dare.
00:47:52I'm a bonus man.
00:47:52Sorry, that's sorry, that slip.
00:47:55That's on me.
00:47:56That's on me.
00:47:57So I think your point's a good one.
00:47:58I'm going to take out Oklahoma-Michigan.
00:48:00So the Oklahoma-Michigan is going to be incredible.
00:48:01I love that it's happening the same day as the other big SEC Big Ten matchup,
00:48:04but that's also why it gets eliminated from the slip.
00:48:06Correct, because it's not close to Ohio State-Texas, in my opinion.
00:48:10But again, John Mateer, okay, super jacked.
00:48:13By the way, super jacked.
00:48:15Maybe too jacked.
00:48:17So hot.
00:48:18So jacked.
00:48:18Yeah.
00:48:19Defense is great.
00:48:21Winning him.
00:48:22Like, that's good.
00:48:22That's, yeah, that's a massive game, but.
00:48:25I'm really, I'm okay with taking that one out.
00:48:27Yeah.
00:48:27These are all massive games.
00:48:28Can I say something crazy?
00:48:30Yeah, go ahead.
00:48:31Ohio State-Michigan has the next one to be eliminated.
00:48:34I don't hate it.
00:48:35I don't hate it either.
00:48:36Actually, I think you're right now that you said it out loud.
00:48:38Yeah.
00:48:39Right?
00:48:39I mean, because again, Michigan, we don't know what Michigan's relevance to the larger picture
00:48:43is going to be.
00:48:44And this is a game that is inherently massive, but almost lacks a little bit of the sex appeal
00:48:50of some of the other ones on this because of that.
00:48:51We've done this dance so many times before.
00:48:53I also think it's possible.
00:48:56Georgia-Alabama.
00:48:57That Ohio State can already have three losses by the time we get to that game.
00:49:02That's the hardest schedule in the country.
00:49:04I'm believing in Ohio State this year, and I think they're going to be better for being
00:49:07battled.
00:49:08I think it's possible.
00:49:08Possible.
00:49:09I think as far as sex appeal.
00:49:10I agree with you, Megan.
00:49:11I think that Georgia-Bama game is just not doing it for me like it once was.
00:49:15Nothing with Bama is doing it for me.
00:49:17Bama's like SEC-Michigan in a lot of ways.
00:49:20You know what I'm saying?
00:49:21It's like, it's just name value at this point.
00:49:24Massive brand.
00:49:26National Championship history is great, but I'm not that big a believer it's going to be
00:49:31Austin Mack, Kaelin Russell, a quarterback.
00:49:33Who knows?
00:49:34It's always a good game.
00:49:35Get it out.
00:49:35But we're getting out.
00:49:36Okay, how many are we left?
00:49:37One, two, three, four, five, six.
00:49:39So we've got to cut one more.
00:49:40One more to cut, and then we'll rank the rest.
00:49:41All right.
00:49:42Well, now at this point, let's do guarantees.
00:49:45Guarantee LSU-Mississippi, or Ole Miss.
00:49:48Guarantee Ohio State-Indiana.
00:49:51I don't even know about that.
00:49:52Wait, give me those guarantees again, guys.
00:49:54Let's make one, two.
00:49:55Ole Miss-OSU-Texas, I think.
00:49:57Week one.
00:49:57Yeah, those are definitely guarantees.
00:50:01I just don't want to stay on here three times.
00:50:02I'm going to say Miami-Notre Dame is a guarantee.
00:50:04I think so, too.
00:50:05Because of the fact that Notre Dame, this will be late in the year, they'll likely be undefeated
00:50:09having rolled through everyone.
00:50:11I agree with that.
00:50:11And this is the game that held them out of all their dreams last year.
00:50:14Yeah.
00:50:15I have more interest in the Texas OU and OSU-Indiana than I do that Oregon-OSU game.
00:50:22Agreed.
00:50:24Okay, so you have more.
00:50:25You like Texas OU and OSU-Indiana better than Oregon-Ohio State.
00:50:29I agree with you, man.
00:50:30I got Oregon-Ohio State ahead.
00:50:31Well, that's because you like Oregon.
00:50:33You were big on Oregon right now.
00:50:35I am big on Oregon.
00:50:35I'm just saying as far as these games.
00:50:36I think Oregon has the best roster.
00:50:38How do y'all feel about the Red River Wivalry?
00:50:41Red River Wivalry?
00:50:42Yeah, the Red River Wivalry.
00:50:44I'll always watch that over.
00:50:46Yeah.
00:50:46Yeah.
00:50:47Texas State Fair.
00:50:48It's weird because Oregon-OSU, that's one, two in the nation, like preseason bowl.
00:50:54But I guess-
00:50:55Dude, I'm fine if you take out Indiana-Ohio State.
00:50:57It's huge.
00:50:58You got to- I feel like you have to keep that in because they're defending national champions.
00:51:02Like, you got to see how they're going to be this year, especially against the Ohio State University.
00:51:07What other big games-
00:51:08Your points are well made, Megan.
00:51:10I agree.
00:51:11Indiana needs to be on this list.
00:51:12Yes.
00:51:13I feel.
00:51:13Like, like, because the brand names are doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
00:51:17I will say, if we want to keep in Oregon, we do already have Texas-Ohio State on there.
00:51:22However, the Texas-OU game that the Manning-Mateer, the Red River Wivalry, like, I mean-
00:51:27Wub, Wub, Wub, Wub, Wub.
00:51:29Again, I think I'm a little biased on that one.
00:51:32God, this is tough.
00:51:33This is really, really, really, really, really, really tough.
00:51:37Okay, I'm-
00:51:38November 7th has national championships.
00:51:41So, you just took-
00:51:42I like Oregon-Ohio State.
00:51:43You reached into my brain, Chief, and you extracted exactly what I was thinking.
00:51:48November 7th is a tiebreaker to me here.
00:51:51I agree.
00:51:52All right.
00:51:52So, it's very close.
00:51:53That's also the only one we chose that is at Ohio State, which could be interesting.
00:51:58You could go either way.
00:51:59Okay, so I say, now let's ring them 5-1.
00:52:03I'll go 5 for LSU.
00:52:05Yes.
00:52:06Just because, like, those teams may end up being irrelevant.
00:52:08Or the biggest threat, maybe, of being irrelevant of all the teams here.
00:52:12True.
00:52:13But the storylines are unbelievable.
00:52:14Yeah.
00:52:15Yeah.
00:52:15Obviously, Lane Kiffin returning to Oxford.
00:52:17It's on me.
00:52:18After leaving them in the lurch.
00:52:19No ball knowledge.
00:52:20All right.
00:52:20So, this will be number 5.
00:52:21How can I write 5 here?
00:52:23We could go-
00:52:27I think-
00:52:28Wow.
00:52:29Dude, I'm so good at this.
00:52:29You can go Ohio State, Indiana, 4.
00:52:31Oops.
00:52:32Okay.
00:52:32I talk too much.
00:52:34Okay.
00:52:34Okay.
00:52:35Never mind.
00:52:35Come on, Bobby.
00:52:35I'm actually not good at the Telestrator.
00:52:37All right.
00:52:37So, this one, 5.
00:52:39Yep.
00:52:40Who are we going for?
00:52:41I think we can do Ohio State at IU.
00:52:44Okay.
00:52:44Yep.
00:52:44Yep.
00:52:45Yep.
00:52:45I like that.
00:52:46That's number 4.
00:52:47Most anticipated game.
00:52:48The college football season.
00:52:52I would-
00:52:53Miami.
00:52:54I would say that at 3 only because I feel like-
00:52:57Is that Notre Dame's toughest game against Miami?
00:53:00Yeah.
00:53:00They got BYU.
00:53:01They got SMU.
00:53:02I think just based on Notre Dame's schedule, I think that should be 3.
00:53:07Yeah, that is funny that you answered that.
00:53:09They got BYU and SMU.
00:53:10Look, I agree.
00:53:11Those are good teams.
00:53:12Those are good teams.
00:53:13I'm real high on BYU.
00:53:14You got three potential playoff teams.
00:53:16I think you have Oregon, Ohio State, too.
00:53:18I agree, too.
00:53:18And then OSU, Texas, one.
00:53:19I'm good with that.
00:53:20I like it a lot.
00:53:21Oh, you do a flip in your twos.
00:53:24I do as well.
00:53:24I do that as well.
00:53:25What do you do?
00:53:26Do you like one of these?
00:53:28I do the flip, dude.
00:53:29I do the flip.
00:53:30Disgusting.
00:53:30I think it's hard to say the number one best game is September 12th.
00:53:34Yeah, I mean, that's a little disappointing.
00:53:38But things could change throughout.
00:53:38Like, this is just right now.
00:53:40Yeah.
00:53:40Things could change.
00:53:42But that is the game that will feature the most NFL talent in the entire country.
00:53:46Also, I feel like with all of the hubbub from last year leading into this year about, like, Arch,
00:53:51we got to see how that game, that could set the tone for the season for Arch.
00:53:56That's a good point, because, like, last year, all the hype, then that game, he got way overly judged for.
00:54:01Everybody divested.
00:54:03He grows in the meantime.
00:54:04So, this is like him.
00:54:05This is the end of a year-long journey for him and an early statement for him to be like,
00:54:10no, no, no.
00:54:11I'm different than I was last year.
00:54:13Check this out.
00:54:13Or time could be a flat circle and history could repeat itself.
00:54:17Big 10 SEC.
00:54:18Yeah.
00:54:19You have Cignetti out here hyping that up.
00:54:21Yeah.
00:54:22Yeah.
00:54:22I think it sucks it's early, but I think that's a very worthy number one.
00:54:25So, there it is, guys.
00:54:26Your top five most anticipated games of the college football season.
00:54:32We are 22 days away from week zero.
00:54:37Come on.
00:54:38Can't wait for the air length.
00:54:39I feel it in my plums.
00:54:40You're going to take me to Indiana?
00:54:42You plums?
00:54:43No.
00:54:43You listening?
00:54:44Inside, I guess.
00:54:45Yeah, I guess you, yeah.
00:54:46Yeah.
00:54:47I want to go maybe week one.
00:54:48Maybe week one.
00:54:50Week one where?
00:54:51We'll just have to see.
00:54:51In Indiana.
00:54:52Who knows?
00:54:53Y'all aren't, like, PB&J's not sending you anywhere week one?
00:54:57Y'all aren't going to hog people?
00:54:59That's what we're trying to figure out.
00:54:59Yeah, okay.
00:55:00Yeah, that'd be sick.
00:55:01All right, more Wake Up Barstool coming up next.
00:55:10Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool.
00:55:11It's time for the debut of a brand new game.
00:55:14Hell yeah!
00:55:15Or hell no.
00:55:18Hell no.
00:55:23So how this game works, we're going to give a statement, and we'll either answer in the
00:55:28affirmative, or the hell yeah, or the negative, or the hell no, and we'll start in the AFC
00:55:31West, guys.
00:55:33Here's the statement.
00:55:33Patrick Mahomes will surpass 4,000 yards, and the Kansas City Chiefs will win the AFC West.
00:55:43That's shocking.
00:55:44Mahomes hasn't had 4,000 yards since 2020.
00:55:46Oh, that is shocking.
00:55:48I don't know.
00:55:49Can I say one thing could be true and the other won't?
00:55:51Yeah.
00:55:52That's literally not the game, guys.
00:55:54Yeah, yeah.
00:55:54Hell no.
00:55:55This is a good question to start the game.
00:55:56Hell yeah.
00:55:57Hell no.
00:55:58Hell no.
00:55:59Hell no, dude.
00:56:00Nah, nah, nah.
00:56:01I think they're going to win the AFC West, but I don't think he's going to throw it.
00:56:04That's a hell no.
00:56:05I just don't think they have any weapons.
00:56:07Who's he throwing it to?
00:56:08I mean, old Travis Kelsey.
00:56:12He looks pretty chubby.
00:56:13Yeah.
00:56:14I mean, Xavier Worthy, I guess, or she writes.
00:56:17You know, yeah.
00:56:18Kenneth Walker, they're expecting to maybe take some of the pressure off of him.
00:56:24Yeah.
00:56:24Hell no.
00:56:26I still like the Broncos.
00:56:27I still like the Chargers.
00:56:29I think that's where I'm at.
00:56:30This is almost less about the Chiefs, because I don't know exactly what to make of Mahomes
00:56:35and his health, and this is more about the rest of that division.
00:56:38I'm so high on the Denver Broncos after last year.
00:56:41You said he's never thrown for 4,000 yards?
00:56:43Not since 23.
00:56:44Is he officially playing week one?
00:56:47I don't believe that.
00:56:48Or are we going to get a Justin Fields game?
00:56:50Production, check me on this.
00:56:51I believe he's trending towards playing, but I don't think we have an official 100% confirmation.
00:56:57All right.
00:56:58Yeah, no.
00:56:59Hell no.
00:56:59Hell no.
00:57:00Hell no.
00:57:01Okay, the Chiefs remain a bit down, dude.
00:57:03Also, sorry, Green Greg.
00:57:05Not going to happen.
00:57:06See you, Greg.
00:57:07Second Green Greg mention on today's Wake Up Barstool?
00:57:10Yeah, he moves the needle.
00:57:11Treadmill crowd.
00:57:11I don't even think I can explain Green Greg to you, so look it up, I guess.
00:57:16He's quite the best game.
00:57:17Look up Green Greg, please.
00:57:19Yeah, sure.
00:57:20You're the 60-year-old man on the treadmill.
00:57:23Will Howard or Drew Aller will be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers by week 10?
00:57:30Oh.
00:57:31Sculler.
00:57:32Definitely not Drew Aller.
00:57:34I'll say that.
00:57:34But I feel like everyone loves him.
00:57:37No!
00:57:38He's getting a lot of love right now in the training camp.
00:57:41Is he really?
00:57:42I think.
00:57:43I mean, I saw one person say it.
00:57:45I'm a big, I love it.
00:57:46You know what?
00:57:47I'm going to see it.
00:57:48You see one tweet and you're like, I think JJ McCarthy's doing really well.
00:57:52He's not doing well at all.
00:57:54I'm going to say hell yeah.
00:57:55I am too.
00:57:56You think so?
00:57:56Yeah.
00:57:57Hell yeah.
00:57:58I don't know, man.
00:57:59Rodgers is too old.
00:58:00Rodgers-y!
00:58:01I just, I don't.
00:58:03But it's time we, I don't know.
00:58:04So you think Aaron Rodgers, instead of riding off to the sunset, his final year in the NFL
00:58:08is spent on the bench?
00:58:11I just feel like the, like the factors that he could get hurt before week 10 is just so
00:58:16high.
00:58:17Yeah, okay, yeah.
00:58:18Yeah, I could play.
00:58:18I mean, he's getting, his bones are getting less dense.
00:58:21I don't want it to.
00:58:21Hell yeah.
00:58:22Well, and we talked to Warren Sharp about this yesterday, but it's a point we've also
00:58:26made throughout the offseason, which is last year, Rodgers was so terrified of getting
00:58:32hit.
00:58:33Right.
00:58:33That they never pushed a ball downfield.
00:58:35He's dumping off constantly.
00:58:36I think they're going to fight against that this year, which is going to put him at risk.
00:58:41Yeah.
00:58:42He might retire by week seven.
00:58:44I want to see what Will Howard's got to.
00:58:45Same, same.
00:58:46That's a guy in college who does not get enough credit for the run that he went on with Ohio
00:58:52State.
00:58:53Like, I know, exactly, right?
00:58:54Like, he felt like.
00:58:55He was at K-State before Ohio State?
00:58:56He was at K-State before Ohio State.
00:58:57I saw him play at K-State.
00:58:59The one K-State game I ever went to in my life.
00:59:01Oh, sick.
00:59:03Terrible tailgating in the little app.
00:59:04In the little app?
00:59:05Oh, man.
00:59:06I'm surprised to hear that.
00:59:07Well, I, but, but again, though, Howard going to Ohio State, all the pressure in the world,
00:59:12and then to falter against Michigan, but have the mental toughness to come back and dominate
00:59:18a historic playoff run?
00:59:20I like those intangibles.
00:59:21The one throw to Jeremiah Smith.
00:59:23Kind of the inverse Aller.
00:59:24Yeah.
00:59:24In the national championship, I'm like, well.
00:59:26Yeah.
00:59:27Handsome fella, too.
00:59:28Is he?
00:59:29Yeah, man.
00:59:29Coach Gruden said it's his favorite guy he's had on QB class.
00:59:32Really?
00:59:33He loves Carson Beck, too.
00:59:34And Carson Beck looked fantastic last night.
00:59:36I think we're going to have a, I have PTSD with Aaron Rodgers, but I think that he is
00:59:41going to have one last final, like, pretty solid season.
00:59:44I hope.
00:59:45For the sake of my lures, but.
00:59:46So, we talked about how the majority of NFL seasons, there is a team that will go from
00:59:52worst to first in the division.
00:59:55Okay?
00:59:55I mean, we talked about the Lions, right?
00:59:57They're actually the odds-on favorite to win the NFC North.
01:00:01There will be at least two worst to first teams in the NFL.
01:00:06And right there, you've got a little cheat sheet.
01:00:07Hell no.
01:00:08The candidates.
01:00:09Jets, Browns, Titans, Raiders, Giants, Lions, Saints, Cardinals.
01:00:12I think the Saints.
01:00:13I say, hell, I think it could be, I think it could be Lions and Saints.
01:00:18That's a great answer, Chief.
01:00:19Yeah.
01:00:20And so, I'll say, hell yeah.
01:00:21Hell no.
01:00:22That's a great answer, Chief.
01:00:23Nope.
01:00:24I don't want to say, hell yeah, but I think, I think it could happen.
01:00:27I think it could happen.
01:00:28I don't think the Saints are ready.
01:00:29I like Lions.
01:00:30Baker getting all pissy and getting mad as far as being in that division.
01:00:34Saints could have a good uproar of a year, if you will.
01:00:39This is a hell yeah because of the Chiefs, the team's the Chief names.
01:00:42Like, no other one has a chance.
01:00:44Raiders won't do it.
01:00:45Cardinals will do it.
01:00:45Titans, Browns, Jets.
01:00:46None of them will do it.
01:00:47The Lions, again, odds on favorite.
01:00:49And then Tyler Shucks, the NFC South.
01:00:51I'm going to hell yeah.
01:00:53Hell yeah.
01:00:54They got momentum right now.
01:00:56Like, Tampa right now is defined by bad buy.
01:00:59It's a little Breeze-esque with his drop back, too.
01:01:01And didn't the Panthers win that division with eight wins?
01:01:03They went eight and nine.
01:01:04Eight and nine.
01:01:04Yeah.
01:01:05So, it's not like it's a super high ceiling to catch up to the Panthers.
01:01:09Right.
01:01:09I think I got the Saints winning that.
01:01:11And I could see the Lions having to bounce back.
01:01:13You guys are going to look back on this graphic in however many months it is.
01:01:17And you're going to be like, Bears, he was right.
01:01:19Not a single team did it.
01:01:21I would like to say that a lot of the times, except for the Saints.
01:01:24It's going to be zero teams.
01:01:25It's going to be like a resurgence.
01:01:26I would, oh, you don't think anybody's going to do that?
01:01:27I would venture to say that I like the Saints who do this even more than the Lions.
01:01:30Yeah.
01:01:30I like the Bears and the Packers better than the Lions.
01:01:34And I like the Bucs better than the Saints.
01:01:36It's that simple.
01:01:37The Bucs.
01:01:38Losing two Hall of Famers.
01:01:40Vita Bay won it out.
01:01:41Baker complaining.
01:01:42Okay.
01:01:43They got Bucky.
01:01:44They got a Mecca.
01:01:44Bucca.
01:01:45No, I got another for Carolina.
01:01:46Maybe Carolina somehow wins it again.
01:01:47I don't think so.
01:01:49Dude, Haynes King.
01:01:49Yeah, Haynes King.
01:01:50How could we forget Haynes King?
01:01:53The star of the show was Haynes King.
01:01:55He could be the guy.
01:01:55All right.
01:01:56Trey McBride of the Arizona Cardinals.
01:01:59The excellent tight end.
01:02:00Will lead tight end in receiving yards once again.
01:02:04Nearly 1,300 yards from McBride last year.
01:02:06Kyle Pitts was second in the league at 928.
01:02:09And actually, Juwan Johnson from New Orleans.
01:02:12A sneaky third at 889.
01:02:14So nobody even close to McBride.
01:02:16It's interesting.
01:02:17All these players that don't have great quarterbacks.
01:02:20These tight ends.
01:02:21That's because they're huge targets.
01:02:25Hell nah.
01:02:26I think hell yeah.
01:02:27He's a big, reliable target.
01:02:29He's a veteran.
01:02:29People can depend on him.
01:02:31He gets open.
01:02:32I think it could be a Colston Loveland year, too.
01:02:34He's pretty small.
01:02:35So I was going to say, it is interesting that we talk about Colston Loveland.
01:02:38There's other tight ends we talk about that don't even crack this top three.
01:02:41You guys are missing the biggest one.
01:02:43Tucker?
01:02:44Tucker.
01:02:45Tucker, dude.
01:02:47He's come for all-ish.
01:02:48And Laporte's.
01:02:49And Laporte.
01:02:50And my guy, Barner.
01:02:52Barner.
01:02:53Barn show.
01:02:56Oh, Tyler Warren, dude.
01:02:57Even though, I mean, he's going to be used in such a myriad of ways.
01:03:00I forgot about Tyler Warren.
01:03:01Very fun.
01:03:02Yeah.
01:03:03Awesome at Penn State.
01:03:04Very good for the Colts last year.
01:03:05No, I mean, I think Trayvon Bryant's going to leave Michigan Yards.
01:03:08You got no concern about the quarterback?
01:03:11No, because their quarterback has been terrible.
01:03:14And he's been doing this.
01:03:15Right?
01:03:15So, like, and he's their best player.
01:03:18Ultimate bailout guy.
01:03:19Yeah, he's going to get the volume.
01:03:20He's the most receiver-coated tight end we got.
01:03:24I think this is a hell yeah.
01:03:25Trey McBride holds it down.
01:03:27I'll give you a hell yeah, Trey.
01:03:28Oh, hell no.
01:03:29I'll give you a hell yeah.
01:03:30Travis Kelsey not even in the conversation.
01:03:32No.
01:03:33No.
01:03:33He's kind of interesting.
01:03:33He's, uh, I'm willing to say he's.
01:03:36He's what they say.
01:03:37Worscht.
01:03:38Worscht.
01:03:38Brock Bowers.
01:03:39Worscht out of his prime.
01:03:40He's Worscht.
01:03:41He's Worscht out of his prime.
01:03:43You think Brock Bowers with Kirk Cousins?
01:03:45I feel like Cousins loves his tight ends.
01:03:46Yeah, I mean, yeah, that could be one.
01:03:48Brock's a dog.
01:03:49Fernando, he also loves his tight ends.
01:03:51He does.
01:03:52Hell yeah or hell nah, Justin Herbert wins MVP, and the Chargers make another Super Bowl.
01:03:59Ah, hell nah.
01:04:00Hell no.
01:04:01No, dude, did you talk about the video on this show?
01:04:05Oh, the hair, the video.
01:04:07Fear rubbing her head into his hair.
01:04:09I love it.
01:04:09I mean, that's not a quarterback that's locked in, though.
01:04:13That's a quarterback that loves his beautiful, gorgeous.
01:04:15He's already, he's already won.
01:04:17She's a beautiful, gorgeous girl.
01:04:18Yes, he's already won.
01:04:19He's already won.
01:04:20He doesn't need, he doesn't need an MVP.
01:04:22He doesn't need a Super Bowl championship.
01:04:23Can that winning extend to the field?
01:04:25He's locked, dude.
01:04:26He's not locked.
01:04:27Hell nah.
01:04:28Hell no.
01:04:28Hell nah, but he's locked in.
01:04:29He'll be pregnant in the next, like, four months.
01:04:31Then he's gonna be locked in on that.
01:04:33Huh?
01:04:33Starting a family.
01:04:35Dad power's a real thing, though.
01:04:37Yeah.
01:04:37Yeah, but not when it comes when your wife's that hot and you're that hot.
01:04:40You're just gonna, like, go to be reality TV stars or something.
01:04:43I also think Harbaugh is a run-the-football.
01:04:46Like, Harbaugh wants to pound it.
01:04:47I don't know if he's gonna have, like, the numbers for MVP.
01:04:51Somebody should do a, uh...
01:04:52Yes, but also, Mike McDaniel has some of those creative running schemes in the NFL, which
01:05:00then set up the quarterback for crazy numbers.
01:05:02Remember, two is...
01:05:02Is there a problem with this, Dana Beers?
01:05:04No, no, no.
01:05:04Dana Beers?
01:05:04I love it for him, but he's...
01:05:06No, it's incredible.
01:05:07So you just...
01:05:08Listen, let me...
01:05:08Hey, your wife, Dana.
01:05:09I want my quarterback to be in the huddle at all times.
01:05:12You just get done with a training camp practice in 95-degree weather in Southern California.
01:05:18That's recovery right there.
01:05:19Beautiful fiancés running your head...
01:05:23Running her hand through your lustrous hair?
01:05:26I don't have no problem with it.
01:05:28It's just...
01:05:29Woo!
01:05:29I don't know if I've ever looked in my wife's eyes as intensely as she was looking at Mavs
01:05:33and B right there.
01:05:34You wouldn't see Tom Brady doing that.
01:05:36Yeah, he'll see him on a jet...
01:05:38Not a jet.
01:05:38A yacht by himself.
01:05:39I was gonna say, I don't want to be Tom Brady.
01:05:41I want my quarterback divorced.
01:05:44That's what I'm trying to say.
01:05:46The Super Bowls of Brady to have with Justin Herbert.
01:05:48I'd rather be Herbert than me.
01:05:49Tom Brady right now.
01:05:50Right now.
01:05:51Him lonely on his yacht trolling through Miami with his earpods in.
01:05:55And here's Herbert in the SoCal Sun soaking it all up.
01:05:58I want my quarterback to not care about his family.
01:06:02I'm a bad guy.
01:06:03Rick May cares about his wife so much.
01:06:05I know.
01:06:05So maybe that's a problem.
01:06:08He's gotta be locked into football.
01:06:10We should do a study.
01:06:12Somebody, like Quiggs or someone, do a study of quarterbacks when they're married or they
01:06:18have a kid and how they perform.
01:06:20We broke this down last Thursday.
01:06:22I think...
01:06:23Really?
01:06:23I want a quarterback that's single when he enters the league.
01:06:28Oh, wow.
01:06:29That's engaged when it's second contract time.
01:06:32And that gets married going into that second big contract.
01:06:37Yeah, you don't want a party quarterback either.
01:06:38Because you start with kind of your alpha, then he settles down, then family life, he's
01:06:42focused right when he's hitting his, like, 27, 28-year-old drive.
01:06:46Right whenever his frontal lobe fully develops.
01:06:48Which is exactly where Herbert's at.
01:06:50I don't know, dude.
01:06:51With the McDaniel factor, I'm gonna give this a hell yeah.
01:06:53Hell no.
01:06:54Is my frontal lobe developed?
01:06:56No.
01:06:56I think men are 27.
01:06:57No chance.
01:06:59I went to the Field Museum the other day, and they have that caveman diorama, and all
01:07:06I could think about was you as I watched this hunched-over Neanderthal staring me in the
01:07:12eyes.
01:07:12It's how I feel recording big boys.
01:07:14Do you have a wife or a girlfriend?
01:07:16He actually did not.
01:07:17He actually did not.
01:07:19His rest first.
01:07:21Hell yeah or hell no.
01:07:22No.
01:07:23The Patriots take a big step back with a tougher schedule and only win nine games.
01:07:29Can we see their schedule?
01:07:30Hell no.
01:07:31That's nine is.
01:07:33They're not gonna have a Super Bowl hangover.
01:07:35Their schedule is right in the middle.
01:07:38This is average NFL tough schedule right here.
01:07:40You gotta remember, they still have four games against the Dolphins and Jets every year.
01:07:44Yeah.
01:07:45Like, come on.
01:07:46That should be 4-0.
01:07:47You're at least going 3-1 there.
01:07:49Probably 4-0.
01:07:50And, I mean.
01:07:51Raiders.
01:07:52Nine is a big step back, but I can see them going 10 or 11 wins.
01:07:58Yeah.
01:07:58I'll say hell.
01:07:59Hell yeah.
01:08:00They're gonna have more.
01:08:01Or, hell no.
01:08:02Okay, hold on.
01:08:03They're having more than nine.
01:08:03Okay, we got a little time here.
01:08:05So, let's.
01:08:06Yeah.
01:08:07Let's.
01:08:07You want to do a little win-loss here?
01:08:10Let's do it.
01:08:10All right.
01:08:12LLW.
01:08:13LLW.
01:08:14LW.
01:08:14Whoa.
01:08:15W.
01:08:15Whoa.
01:08:16L.
01:08:17L.
01:08:18L.
01:08:19L.
01:08:19W.
01:08:20W.
01:08:21L.
01:08:22At Bears.
01:08:22That's a win.
01:08:23They're not beating the Bears.
01:08:24At Bears, nah.
01:08:26W.
01:08:27You're going L at Bears?
01:08:28Yep.
01:08:29L.
01:08:29I mean, some people would say that, not me.
01:08:31They're splitting the Dolphins.
01:08:33I have a feeling.
01:08:34I can't do this, actually.
01:08:35This is too much.
01:08:36Never mind.
01:08:36All right.
01:08:37Are you doing great?
01:08:38I got insecure.
01:08:39Is this okay?
01:08:40Okay.
01:08:40Okay.
01:08:40Let's keep going.
01:08:41Dolphins.
01:08:42What do you want to do?
01:08:42At Dolphins.
01:08:43Another win?
01:08:43L.
01:08:44I'll do there.
01:08:45Packers.
01:08:46L.
01:08:47L.
01:08:48L.
01:08:49L.
01:08:50At Lions.
01:08:51L.
01:08:52L.
01:08:53Okay.
01:08:53I can't.
01:08:54Everybody.
01:08:55Okay.
01:08:56They're looking rough right now.
01:08:58That's why you guys are just saying they're going to lose every game on the road.
01:09:01It's not going to happen.
01:09:02They'll split with the Bills.
01:09:03They'll win that.
01:09:04W.
01:09:05Yeah.
01:09:05Like, what are you guys talking about?
01:09:06Talk about not having a guy locked in.
01:09:08Mike Vrabel.
01:09:09This is a win.
01:09:10At Chiefs loss.
01:09:12Win.
01:09:12You guys are just saying every game on the road is a loss.
01:09:15Oh, there you go.
01:09:15They gave you a win.
01:09:17Loss.
01:09:17Loss win.
01:09:19What's that?
01:09:20All right.
01:09:21Where did we end up here?
01:09:22That's 10.
01:09:2310.
01:09:234, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
01:09:25Oh.
01:09:25And that was a very, like, non-setter.
01:09:27It's a non-setter.
01:09:28There you go.
01:09:29You made it.
01:09:29And they'll probably lose to Steelers.
01:09:32What a disaster of a graphic I've created here.
01:09:35Dude, they got better.
01:09:36I apologize to all of our...
01:09:37They got better in the off-season, okay?
01:09:39Their schedule got harder, but they got better in the off-season.
01:09:42I would like to apologize to all of our obsessive-compulsive viewers, because...
01:09:46That was tough.
01:09:46That graphics, I mean, different font sizes, jump to the right, jump to the left.
01:09:52That's disgusting.
01:09:53I think it looks cool.
01:09:55It looks bespoke.
01:09:58It's a bespoke graphic, to be sure.
01:10:00Wow.
01:10:01I don't know what that means.
01:10:03Handmade, handcrafted.
01:10:04Ah.
01:10:05Not just manufactured out of the assembly line.
01:10:08Yes.
01:10:09A little heart and soul pouring into it.
01:10:11Okay.
01:10:11We are all bespoke.
01:10:13Coming up next, let's talk private equity in college football on TBH with TBH.
01:10:28Welcome back to Wake Up Barstool, guys.
01:10:30It's been a very fun week here, getting ready to close out the week with a brand new segment.
01:10:36We did it last week.
01:10:37It's TBH with TBH.
01:10:39Get it?
01:10:39To be honest?
01:10:40TBH?
01:10:41Okay.
01:10:43The college football world is changing.
01:10:46I see it on the field.
01:10:48I feel it in the stands.
01:10:51I smell it in the crowd.
01:10:53Much that once was is lost, for there are none now who live to remember it.
01:10:59Gone are the days of the amateur.
01:11:01Arrived is the age of the mercenary.
01:11:04Sponsorships, TV revenue, advertisers, and the gaping maw of the transfer portal.
01:11:08These are the orders of the day.
01:11:11Fiscal demands outstrips supply and private equity circles the sport.
01:11:15Desperate to sink their rapacious teeth into this game that we love.
01:11:19It is at this time when the Honorable Louisiana Governor, Jeff Landry, convenes a great council.
01:11:27This is a true story.
01:11:27Picture this, guys.
01:11:28Okay.
01:11:29It's a rainy Monday night in Baton Rouge as 16 of the most wealthy and powerful people in the state
01:11:35arrive at the governor's mansion.
01:11:37Rumors of private equity swirl and the mood is somber as the donors, tired of their pockets being raided, murmur
01:11:44to one another,
01:11:44Sure, this is nothing but another request for their riches.
01:11:48After all, Meg, you know this.
01:11:51It's been an expensive year for LSU.
01:11:53They've incurred debts to coaches both past and present to the tune of $180 million.
01:12:00It's college sports now, $180 million.
01:12:03The coffers of the cast iron kingdom are at risk of running dry.
01:12:06The rate of spending is unsustainable, they say, and fear spreads throughout the fan base.
01:12:11It is at this moment in which Governor Landry steps to the podium, inviting Aquashire CEO Greg Williams to join
01:12:19him as they unveil their master plan.
01:12:23My lords, allow me to assuage any fears you may have.
01:12:29We do not need your money.
01:12:32What takes place is something no one expected.
01:12:34They thought it was going to be private equity.
01:12:36They claim to have rejected the advances of the equity sharks, having forged in secret a master plan that would
01:12:43place LSU at the forefront of nothing short of a monetary revolution.
01:12:49One fund to rule them all three shares for the chicken kings in their grand hall, seven for the oil
01:12:58lords, their wells in the sea, nine for the gas barons standing tall, one for Lord Governor Jeff Landry and
01:13:06the land of the hedge fund where money lies.
01:13:09One plan to recruit them all, one plan to find them, one plan to pay them all, and in their
01:13:15golden handcuffs, find them in Death Valley where the tigers lie.
01:13:20The attendees are blown away.
01:13:22The idea presented was so revolutionary that one executive says, quote, for the first time, I think LSU and Louisiana
01:13:30is going to lead the nation in something.
01:13:32They got it.
01:13:33They figured it out.
01:13:34We're lucky to have these people.
01:13:36And here it is.
01:13:37It's just shy of a genius plan.
01:13:41What is the plan, guys?
01:13:43How are they going to avoid equity?
01:13:46It's a hedge fund.
01:13:48LSU is going to do a hedge fund.
01:13:50Have you seen this?
01:13:51There's LSU right now.
01:13:52Instead of asking for private equity, OK, give us $100 million.
01:13:55You're going to buy a portion.
01:13:57Then you're going to have control of the program.
01:13:58No, they're creating a hedge fund, allegedly, in which private investors get to insert money, and then they're going to
01:14:06get returns.
01:14:07They're going to take this money.
01:14:09They're going to invest in, like, Saudi Arabia, right?
01:14:11The public investment firm that ran, live, that runs all these things.
01:14:14They're going to invest in things around the world, and that profit that they're hoping to get, that is going
01:14:21to be what funds LSU athletics.
01:14:24Will it work?
01:14:25I don't know.
01:14:26But remember what Valleus Paterkulis said 2,000 years ago.
01:14:32No man can sit as a course based for himself, which has proven profitable to others.
01:14:38So if this works, LSU could be setting the tone for all of college football here, guys.
01:14:43Maybe that's it.
01:14:44I don't know.
01:14:45Chief, you strike me as a guy who would have an opinion on hedge funds.
01:14:48How, because, like, nobody wants private equity in college football, right?
01:14:51No, I don't know.
01:14:52I mean, do you?
01:14:53That made zero sense.
01:14:56How do you feel about the idea of a school creating essentially their own hedge fund just to make money
01:15:04to fund athletics?
01:15:05So there's these sovereign wealth funds that you referenced, Norway, Saudi Arabia.
01:15:09But they have, like, the one resource that they're able to take that money out of.
01:15:14These guys are basically just doing donations and hoping it works?
01:15:17They're not going to do donations.
01:15:18Well, they're donating into the fund.
01:15:19They have a private investor that's going to start with basically a startup of $100 million.
01:15:23Okay.
01:15:24And I believe he's going to get something like 8% returns from profits.
01:15:28But outside investors cannot own more than 20% of the fund.
01:15:33LSU's going to own 8%.
01:15:34But what if there's, like, an AI bubble or some big economic catastrophe and then your whole success.
01:15:39We're not thinking that far down south.
01:15:40I just want to watch football.
01:15:42You got to bet, dude.
01:15:43I just want to watch football with my eyeballs.
01:15:47I think that there is more risk involved.
01:15:49Can I just watch football with my eyeballs?
01:15:51What are we talking about?
01:15:54LSU just can't get it done.
01:15:55Good segment, T-Bob.
01:15:57Good segment.
01:15:57Let me do this song and dance.
01:15:59Nice to try to get a bigger gun.
01:16:02All right, guys.
01:16:02We love you.
01:16:03We'll see you Monday.
01:16:03More Wake Up Parcel.
