00:00A former Marine is suing oil giant Shell, claiming he lost his job because of the company's
00:04diversity initiatives. Thomas Hutt, a white veteran who spent nearly 15 years with Shell,
00:10alleges he was forced to reapply for his own position during a 2025 reorganization,
00:14while minority employees were allowed to keep similar roles. The lawsuit claims Hutt was
00:19ultimately replaced by a Black employee who had primarily worked in fraud investigations,
00:24despite Hutt's years of experience overseeing corporate security operations across the United
00:28States. Hutt also alleges that his supervisor mocked employees who lost their jobs, in his
00:34instance, by giving him a novelty tear jar after the reorganization, a gift the lawsuit says made
00:39light of terminations. The suit accuses Shell of race and national origin discrimination as well
00:44as retaliation, and it points to the company's public diversity goals as part of its claim.
00:49Shell has not yet responded to the allegations. Hutt is seeking lost wages, damages, and other
00:54relief in federal court.
