00:04Surgeons are known for their steady hands, but these doctors in South Africa are getting a
00:08little help. This is what's called the da Vinci robot, a tool surgeons are now using to aid them
00:13with more complex surgeries. The device has four arms compared to a surgeon's two, allowing the
00:18real-life doctor to use two of them to hold static positions, while the other two are used
00:22more actively for whatever invasive movements are needed. They say patients who are operated
00:26on using the da Vinci robot have a quicker recovery time as well. This is Tim Forgan, a surgeon who
00:31has worked with the device, to explain. Patients have done very, very well. They go home much sooner,
00:36so our average length of stay is three days. So you have a major procedure. We remove big cancers,
00:41and three days later you're at home. And they say it reduces nerve damage in patients. But it's not
00:47the only innovation at this hospital. They're also employing technology to allow patients to chat with
00:51loved ones whenever they want, helping them heal with emotional support. Just two ways technology
00:55technology is helping people all over the world live better lives.
