Life Is Good proved his name on the racetrack. Now as the race for this year's leading first-crop stallion heats up, he has the opportunity to make it a self-fulfilling prophecy in the stallion barn as well. In this episode of Hands on History, presented by the Breeders' Cup, we spoke with the team at WinStar Farm who knows the champion best.

00:00It's life is good!
00:03We do get attached to them because when they come to us they're quite young.
00:06Life is good!
00:07You hope that you've taught them properly and given them a good start.
00:21Life is Good came to us straight from the September sales.
00:24And I remember when he came off the van he was a real sweetheart straight away.
00:31He always wanted to know what we wanted him to do.
00:35All the girls liked him because he let them kiss him.
00:39He was as pretty of a profiled horse as you can want to look at.
00:45It was very easy for him from step one.
00:49He was a very forward horse.
00:50We were always a little worried about him getting too forward too fast.
00:56We followed him all but once he broke his maiden first time out then we really followed him.
01:01Life is good!
01:04Really, really, really good!
01:07Oh my!
01:09I think my favorite race was when he was second to Jackie's Warrior.
01:12He showed a lot of guts in that race.
01:15I think the Breeders' Cup Mile is my favorite.
01:17Just runs away from everybody and he just looks like he's going fast the whole time for a mile.
01:21And it's just unbelievable.
01:23I love the Breeders' Cup.
01:25I remember watching that and that was so exciting.
01:28It's a big thing to have a Breeders' Cup winner.
01:31Big, big thing.
01:32Life is Good's personality is pretty straight forward.
01:35You know what you get every day.
01:37When he goes to Breeders' Cup or wherever, he's just like, yeah, let's do it.
01:41Let's go.
01:41And when he goes out to be ridden, he's yeah.
01:44He's a very, very smart horse.
01:46People say, yeah, yeah, horses, they're smart.
01:49But no, he's very smart.
01:52He always tries to be in the top.
01:54But we need to show him who's under control.
01:58But he always wanted to have the control.
02:01He's just got a really good mind, but he's got a lot of energy.
02:04He's happy and I'm happy with him and happy with the results so far.
02:09We've been lucky enough to have several Life is Good progeny in the barn.
02:14And for me, seeing the progeny of horses that we've had here is a big, big achievement for us at
02:21the farm.
02:22I always remember when the good life came, he'd just like pee in a pod to his dad.
02:27Exactly the same.
02:28You see a little bit of a likeness in them as they're running.
02:32Like we just had the one life song win last weekend.
02:35And it just kind of looked like him going down the stretch.
02:38He's special for me because I take care of him.
02:41It's not just him, it's all the horses.
02:45And you just think, how can I take care of this horse?
02:48You don't worry about how much they're worth.
02:50But every now and then it's like, you go, wow, he's a big deal.
02:56It's a big thing for me because I know how much it takes to get the horse from here to
03:01there.
03:01And to know that I was a very small part to start them off.
03:04Big thrill for me and I'm very lucky to be able to do it and be around such wonderful horses.
03:09Big thrill for me and be with me and I'm happy to have fun at!
03:09andtes it with me at the top of my head,
