01:51but having a new quarterback, because a new quarterback is always a question mark,
01:55no matter how good we think Darian Mensah is going to be,
01:57always a question mark.
01:59And I think Gino said, hey, college football playoffs at the very least,
02:03like at the very least.
02:04Would you agree with that?
02:06I think the goal forever until things change again,
02:10which we all know that they will, we all know that they will,
02:13is the playoffs.
02:14I mean, that's really, I don't care if you bypass the ACC championship game.
02:19You get to the playoffs, that's it, because you're in the race.
02:24And I think that that's the mindset that I developed after having to go through
02:29last season and being a part of all the playoff games.
02:32I think that's the thing that I've learned from it, is if you're in,
02:36you've got a chance to win.
02:37And it's a whole different level of football playing in those playoff games
02:41than it is the regular season.
02:43So if you get there with two losses or three losses or no losses,
02:46if you're in the playoffs, that's the goal.
02:49You get in there to compete.
02:51You know, everybody wants the title.
02:52Everybody wants to win them all.
02:54Everybody wants to be undefeated.
02:55Get to the playoffs.
02:58And DBJ, can they replace, like Bain.
03:02Bain was one of my favorite college football players in probably the last decade.
03:06I just love how he plays.
03:08And he's a Buck now, and I'm a Bucs fan.
03:09And I know the quarterback is the talk of teams, but can they replace,
03:14do they have guys to replace Mesidor and Bain?
03:17Because I think that was a big part of the defense, not having the blitz to get home.

03:23I've been looking at that part of it careful.
03:26And I went over and watched Pass Rush this morning when we were down there.
03:29And Ruben Bain is a guy that was so different than everybody else.
03:37I mean, he worked at his trade every day.
03:40He was the first one in the building.
03:41He's the last one to leave.
03:43He got better every single game and every single snap and every single year.
03:47And he did everything right.
03:49He did on the field, off the field, everything.
03:52So that guy, that personality, that person is very, very difficult to replace.
04:00Now, on the field, how I see it materializing this year is that they had outside pressure.
04:08They had two defensive ends, both drafted in the first round.
04:11Well, looks like they might have two defensive tackles that have the ability to be drafted in the first round.
04:17So the pressure is going to come from the inside this year versus the outside last year.
04:22And Coach Crisobal, you know, his statement is, as soon as we signed Ruben Bain, we went to find the
04:28next Ruben Bain.
04:29And they've done a good job.
04:30We just don't know his name yet.
04:33And, you know, there was, you go down the succession.
04:36And really, this is at every great university, the succession.
04:39At every position, there's always the next guy.
04:42And none of us thought, what was the conversation a year ago now?
04:48How are we going to replace Xavier Restrepo?
04:52Nobody even remembered, you know, I mean, you didn't have to.
04:55Malachi Tony came in.

04:57You think about the 1,000-yard receiver, and he had all the catches, and he did this, and he

05:02And we're going to be missing him until about week three, and we realize you got something that's as good
05:07as it's ever been.

05:12But, you know, I think that's just the way it is.

05:17That's just the way that it happens if you're doing a great job recruiting, which Mario Cristobal and that staff

05:33And so far, so good.
05:35Has Mario Cristobal exceeded expectations since he's been in Miami, DBJ?
05:44Is it what his mind thinks, or what do the people think?

05:50I think the goal was win the ACC and compete for a national title.
05:56And it took a couple years, but you were there last year.
06:00And I just wonder if he's exceeded expectations or he's where we all expected him to be or where you
06:05expected him to be.
06:06Here's what I expected.
06:09I expected that Mario Cristobal left as good a job as there was in college football to come home and
06:17put this program on the map nationally and compete for national championships every single year.
06:27Now, it took him four years to get the roster up to speed and get the coaching staff to where
06:34it needs to be and the strength and conditioning.
06:36It took him, it took, you know, three full years of groundwork and figuring it out and getting everything done.
06:43Mario Cristobal is here to do one thing, and that is to win football games at the University of Miami
06:50with great players that understand what it takes to be a great Miami Hurricane.
06:58I believe that Mario Cristobal thinks he should win every single game, every single year, every single week, every single
07:05time.
07:06That is what he sets out to.
07:08There is not a compromise in his mind, in my belief, that it was okay to get to the national
07:16championship game and lose.
07:18I was in the locker room with him, and I saw how hard he took the loss.
07:23I mean, it was devastating to him.
07:26And he just, he's not, there's no compromise in him about winning, is I guess what I'm trying to say.
07:33He's, he's second place, he's not in, he's not in it for silver, silver medals.
07:39He's in it for a gold medal every single time.
07:43And he runs his business that way, and he runs his life that way, and he runs his program that
07:47way.
07:49And DBJ, I'm with you, and that's why I said, we read it out earlier, where the Kirby Smarts, the
07:55Ryan Days, the Signetis, the, he's on that level now.
08:00That's how they look at him, but DBJ, we talked to Josie, we talked to Gino, and they're praising Mensa.
08:07And no, not to Carson Beck, but I'm kind of getting the feel that Mensa is better than Carson Beck.
08:13What has Mensa showed you so far?

08:25Cam Ward was, we thought, was the best we ever had seen.

08:44What didn't have the fanfare, he did come in a little injured severely and recuperated.
08:49But he took Miami to a national championship game.
08:53The expectation is for Mensa to go out and win every game and take Miami, put him in a position
09:03to put him in the playoffs to compete for a national championship.
09:05I think that's what the expectation is.
09:08I don't think the offense is going to look the same as last year, just like it didn't look the
09:12same from Ward to Beck.
09:14I think you're going to see another adjustment that will fit around Mensa's style and to continue to grow the
09:24Shannon Dawson offense and also take advantage of the talent level.
