00:38I think that question is a fair question on anybody's side.
00:42Like is that possible?
00:43It's always possible that things don't go the way you want, but we currently are still
00:48very optimistic that he's going to return, you know, but there's challenges with all
00:52that too.
00:53While he's returning, whenever that timeframe is and ramping them up and getting his timing
00:57down and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
01:00So I can't rule out any of it.
01:02And was school rules ever realistic for you guys?
01:05We talked to Detroit, you know, it, you know, they, they set a high price and, you know, to
01:12be, be honest, that was not something we were unable to get them off of what they said
01:18might work.
01:19How close were you to landing a catcher, Adley Russman in particular?
01:24You know, we grinded through the, you know, uh, the market of catching, uh, first, you know,
01:28we do believe that we have quality catching, but obviously the offensive side, which has
01:33been a struggle for our team overall, uh, not just at the catching position, you know, made
01:39us certainly shop in that aisle, but ultimately in the end of the day, uh, there was no opportunity
01:45that existed, um, you know, for us that, that we felt good enough about to be able to push
01:50through on amateur hour, absolute amateur hour.
02:00That right there, the sad trombone is perfect because listening to Brian Cashman, watching
02:06him fall asleep at the trade deadline yesterday.
02:09I mean, that is a Yankee doodle dreary, a dud, a disgrace, an embarrassment.
02:18And listen, it was bad enough as is that the Yankees didn't add a relief pitcher or a catcher,
02:24but to make it even worse, the Red Sox did everything right.
02:29The Red Sox and their general manager talked about a championship and a World Series run.
02:36Brian Cashman had excuses, garbage, nonsense, buffoonery.
02:44I could not believe what I didn't see from the Yankees yesterday.
02:48I was obsessed from a Red Sox perspective.
02:51And if you look at it, it's, it's a disaster.
02:55I mean, look at this, look at this incredible full screen right here.

02:59If you're a Red Sox fan, not so much of a Yankees fan.
03:02And I loved Garcia.
03:04We talked about that on yesterday's Shine Time.
03:08He had a home run, earned the pinstripes in his Yankee debut to tie a game at six before
03:14the bullpen blew it.
03:16They blew it because they needed, how many times have I said this on Shine Time?
03:21Two to four different relief pitchers.
03:23And Brian Cashman got, hold on, let me do some quick math.
03:26Let me carry the one.
03:27Zero.
03:28Zero.
03:29They needed two to four new relief pitchers.
03:32And they got zero.
03:34Go, this is crazy talk.
03:36And look at the Red Sox.
03:38And remember, they started early when they traded early for Meade.
03:43And it was a terrific trade.
03:44They needed offense.
03:45And then Meade got hurt, right?
03:47And that was flukish.
03:48He got hit by a pitch.
03:49And then they trade prospect in their organization, two, four, and five for Adley Rushman.
03:57Adley Rushman was built for the Yankees.
04:00A catcher who could have taken advantage of the short porch in right field.
04:05An all-star in the division.
04:07Oh, and the Red Sox do it.
04:10And the Yankees.
04:11You heard Brian Cashman say, they have quality catchers.
04:15Quality catchers.
04:16I mean, Austin Wells is hitting 160.
04:20And sometimes when you do what I do for a living, you can exaggerate for a fact.

04:30He gets outs 85% of the time he digs into the batter's box.
04:34He can't catch.
04:35He can't throw.
04:36He doesn't want to challenge.
04:38He can't hit.
04:39The whole thing is a disaster.
04:40And Cashman has the nerve, the chutzpah, the audacity to say, we have quality catchers.
04:45On Aaron Judge, he says there are challenges that he's going to return.

04:52How about Aaron Boone's gem when he was asked about Giancarlo Stanton?

05:22And then, take a look at this quote.
05:25What Craig Breslow had to say.
05:28The general manager of the Red Sox.
05:31We were aggressive in bringing players in.
05:34Again, we were positioning ourselves to reach our objective, which is to try and win a World
05:41Series.
05:44Wow.
05:44What a concept.
05:46And here's Breslow, who was really as bad as it gets over the last couple of years.
05:53We could go over what happened in the Devers train.
05:56The Bregman signing, letting Bregman go, misreading the market, firing Cora.

06:09we said that the two biggest embarrassments, and that is always the day, the first time
06:13you really look at the baseball standings and have a reaction.
06:16Two biggest embarrassments in baseball, the Mets and the Red Sox.
06:21And think about what has happened since.
06:23And the Red Sox, hottest team in baseball, just swept the Dodgers.
06:27They're on fire in the month of July, and they go for it.
06:30They trade prospect 2-4-5 for Rushman.
06:33They trade Marcel Mayer, the fourth overall pick in the 2021 draft, for the best relief pitcher
06:41available.

06:46Hey, he changed the spelling of his name, because he strikes everybody out.
06:51You know who could have used Rushman or Miller?
06:53The Yankees!
06:55The two guys the Red Sox got were tailor-made for the pinstripes.
07:01And you have Breslow talking about a World Series.
07:05This team in Boston goes from embarrassment to having a chance.
07:09The Yankees, I mean, it is absurd what Cashman did.
07:14He punted on the season.
07:17He punted on the trade deadline.
07:20And I'm not talking about old-school Sean Landetta punting.
07:24He punted on second down in field goal range.
07:28This is absolutely insane if you're a Yankee fan.
07:32I am sick.
07:33I am pissed off.
07:34I am livid.
07:35And for the Yankees, and I like Elio Ramos.
07:38Nice, solid bat.
07:39Let's be fair about that.
07:41But they needed two to four different relief pitchers.
07:45And the fact that that's been the take, and then you see at the end of the day,
07:49the Red Sox get the ultimate relief pitcher that was available in the open market.
07:54And then Garcia, a great acquisition.
07:57Give Cashman credit for that.
07:58He hits a tying homer, and the Yankees blow it because of the bullpen.

08:05I mean, the New York Yankees at this stage, right here, right now, right,
08:09in theory, with Cole and with Schlittler, who had in patrol last night,
08:13but he's still the favorite for the Cy Young.
08:16You know, you look at Freed, just absolutely terrific, absolutely tremendous.
08:21Even if Judge doesn't play another inning.
08:25Wide open, weird American League.
08:28The New York Yankees, if they just picked up another reliever or two,
08:34picked up a catcher who could actually hit his weight,
08:37Yankees could have been the World Series favorite in the American League.
08:41And listen, the American League is still weird and wide open, right?
08:44But now, if you're being honest and objective, and this is the problem here,
08:49you've got to give Tampa credit.
08:51And listen, I ripped Tampa for what transpired with Scooble,
08:54and that was kind of a mess, the fact that they didn't go and get him.
08:58They got Hicks, who's a really good catcher, Liam Hicks.
09:02They got Freddy Peralta from the Mets.
09:04The Rays are in position to have the one seed and win the American League East.
09:09The Red Sox are most likely to jump them of any team in the divisions, not the Yankees.
09:16I mean, at this stage, if you're ranking teams in the American League that can make a run,
09:21the Yankees are not in the top four.
09:23They're just not.
09:24If you're ranking finishes right now, day after the trade deadline,
09:28Yankees, to me, are third place.
09:30Don't make the playoffs because of their big three and their rotation.
09:33But Tampa, Boston, Yankees.
09:36This is all on Cashman.
09:38Give Boston credit.
09:40They said, Baseball America, prospect rankings, be damned.
09:43We don't care about that.
09:44We want to win a World Series.
09:46And we wondered aloud over the last two years, Red Sox fans wondered aloud.
09:51If John Henry and company, Sam Kennedy and company, Craig Breslow and company,
09:56had given up on baseball.
09:57This was as painful a trade deadline.
10:01And look, we've been ranting on Cashman and Boone forever.
10:04So the expectations are slim.
10:07But this, nah, this, this is not acceptable.
10:12Hal Steinbrenner doesn't care.
10:14Cashman doesn't care.
10:16Boone doesn't care.
10:17This is a, this is mid-level crap.
10:20That's what the Yankees were at the deadline.
10:22Just a complete and utter failure.
10:24If we're doing grades, the New York Yankees are an F minus.
10:28Not even worthy of an F.
10:30Boston, A plus.
10:32Rays, A minus.
10:34What a complete and utter disgrace.
10:36But, there is good news for Yankees fans.
10:40At long last, there's going to be a fresh face playing shortstop for my New York Yankees.
10:49Born loser Anthony Volpe, out.
10:53George Lombard is in.
10:55Here is Joel Sherman.
10:59So, everything I say about George Lombard, aside from very little eyewitnessing in spring, is based on people in the
11:07Yankee organization I trust, and more importantly, scouts and executives from other teams who have dealt with the player.
11:13Like, seen the player a lot, write reports on him, etc.
11:18Supposed to be incredibly mature and level-headed.
11:22Supposed to be superb defense.
11:25Superb athleticism.
11:27Superb base running.
11:29High baseball IQ.
11:30God, could this team need that?
11:32High baseball IQ.
11:34And that the problem is, his offense often takes him at a level of going through bad.
11:42Like, somebody, the person I talked to last night said, you know, the Yankee fans are going to be excited
11:50about Lombard, and they should be.
11:51The person said, again, through somebody else's eye, they said, George Lombard's going to be a good Major League shortstop.
11:58A good Major League shortstop, and maybe better than that.
12:01But they said, probably three weeks from now, he's going to be hitting 180.

12:08And I love what Joel Sherman had to say.
12:12Lombard, terrific fielder.
12:14Big league, certainly, experience in terms of coming up in clubhouses.
12:20His dad has been in the big leagues for a long time.
12:23Let me tell you something, before we get into Lombard.
12:26Big it, Anthony Volpe.
12:29Big it, loser.
12:30We have been saying this from the first ever shine time we did.
12:34We said last year, literally last year, when the Yankees got swept in a four-game series against the Toronto
12:41Blue Jays,
12:42Anthony Volpe needed to be sent to the minors because he is not a big league ball player.
12:49How about a couple of years ago, when Brian Cashman told Joel Sherman,
12:53oh, you've got to trust us.
12:55And when Volpe hits, are you going to say, well, great job by player development and the GM and the
13:01manager and the scouting department and the analytics department?
13:04What do you have to say now, Cashman?
13:07Anthony Volpe is a losing ball player.
13:09We did the interview on our SiriusXM radio show with Derek Jeter, where he talked about Volpe.
13:16And he murdered him without using the same words that I'm using, talking about how usually when you look at
13:24the mistakes for Volpe, you make it in the minor leagues.
13:27So on a dark day for the Yankees, where they did nothing worth anything at the trade deadline, this put
13:35a smile on my face.
13:37This was great.

13:46We've been saying for a month that you would see Lombard up, Volpe down by August 4th, because finally the
13:58Yankees were kind of hinting and saying the right things.
14:01Not to mention the fact that Lombard's an amazing glove.
14:04Not to mention the fact that his last 14 games at AAA since coming off the injured list, he's hitting
14:10close to 400.
14:11I mean, this guy is mature.
14:14Everything that Joel Sherman said in the scouting report, and look at these stats, right?
14:19I mean, this is terrific.
14:21Absolutely phenomenal.
14:22What you want.
14:23He's, you know, been around the game for his whole life.
14:26His dad's been in baseball forever.
14:28Phenomenal glove.
14:30Moments not too big for him.
14:31Going to be in the Yankees starting lineup tonight.
14:34And most especially, because I can tell you all the things that we like about Lombard, former top pick, top
14:39prospect,
14:40as important as anything here.
14:42And you could put this on his email signature.
14:44You could put it on his LinkedIn profile.
14:47Not Anthony Volpe.
14:49More than anything else, all the great things about Lombard, just the fact that he's not Volpe gets me going.
14:55That's it.
14:56I mean, and listen, I would say normally when you do what I do for a living, we don't like
15:01to kick someone when he's down.
15:03I'm enjoying kicking Anthony Volpe.
15:05You don't have to, in the comments, apologize to me, okay?
15:09I've been reading all the comments, everything on Instagram, everything on X, everything on YouTube, at Shine Time.
15:18I'm reading it all.
15:19I accept your apology.
15:21I was right.
15:22You were wrong.
15:22Brian Cashman was wrong.
15:24I mean, I get it.
15:25There were some people who loved the concept of Volpe.
15:28Grew up in Manhattan, moved to New Jersey, first-round pick, big Yankee fan.

15:34His baseball IQ is zero.
15:37He would take bad base running to the field, make errors, take bad fielding to the plate, had no ability
15:43to make contact, didn't come through in the clutch, couldn't drive the baseball.
15:47He was a negative.
15:49And even more, and I always say this in all my years in sports media, the players know.
15:56People like us can have opinions.
15:59The players know if you can play or not.
16:02There's no way that any professional in that clubhouse looked at Volpe and thought that he was anything other than
16:08a spoiled professional, where he was just Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone's, you know, wonder kid.
16:15That's it.
16:16I never want to see him again.
16:18Look, I think Lombard's going to be rock solid, right?
16:21I think his defense, his IQ, see what his bat does.
16:24I think it'll be good as well.
16:26Even if Lombard fails, he won't.
16:29I don't want to see Volpe ever again.
16:30I don't want to see for September call-ups, here's Anthony Volpe.
16:34I don't want him ever allowed in the Bronx, let alone Yankee Stadium.
16:40Like, he's banned from Stan's sports bar.
16:42I never want to see Volpe's face again.
16:45So, yes, I was ridiculously excited.
16:48I couldn't get enough.
16:49Look, and obviously there's another element to this, too.
16:52Dominguez goes down.
16:54Ramos, the Yankees get him at the deadline.
16:57And I do think, right, when you look at the struggle being real, I mean, this is why you trade
17:05quote-unquote prospects.
17:07Look at Dominguez and Volpe and their numbers.
17:10We're talking about a 240 and a 230 hitter, respectively, Volpe and Dominguez.
17:15I mean, look at the power numbers.
17:18I mean, Anthony Volpe, one home run.

17:25Remember, it's the same Anthony Volpe where years, I mean, think of all the shortstops.

17:31Manny Machado, we're good.
17:34You know, can't even mess around with these guys through the years.

18:31Let's focus on winners.
18:33Here are my five biggest winners from the Major League Baseball trade deadline.
18:39In order.
18:41Dodgers, Phillies, Cubs, Guards, and the Padres.
18:47Not listed would be the Rays, who I would have six on the list with Hicks and Peralta.
18:52And the Pirates, I do like the fact that they went forward and got Luke Weaver from the Mets.
18:57And he's under contract for next year as well.
18:59Needed a relief pitcher, I'll give the Pirates some love.
19:03Dodgers are the biggest winner, obviously.
19:04They go out, get Scoobble.
19:06I don't want to hear anyone say anything negative about that.
19:09The Philadelphia Phillies absolutely are on this list.
19:13And I've seen the Phillies on different lists.
19:16Winners, losers.
19:17I'm obsessed with Louisa Rize.
19:19Louisa Rize is unbelievable.
19:21I still believe in batting average as an important statistic.
19:25And he does an excellent job putting the bat on the ball.
19:29That's what Don Mattingly did as a hitter for the Yankees.
19:32That's what he preached as a manager in L.A. and in Miami.
19:36What he did as a hitting coach and a bench coach in Toronto and elsewhere with the Yankees.
19:41And now in Philadelphia.
19:43So I think Rize makes Philadelphia a big winner.
19:45Plus, this was something Bryce Harper campaigned for.
19:49And now Bryce Harper's like, all right, you know what?
19:52I'll do whatever it takes to win.
19:53He might dust off the outfield glove, play a little outfield.
19:56Rize could play first.
19:57He could play second.
19:58He could DH.
19:59He's going to rake.
20:00I love this deal for Philadelphia.
20:03I love the Cubs are big winners.
20:04I think that getting Clay Holmes and getting Gossman, I think these are big-time pickups.
20:10And, you know, PCA right now is my pick for the MVP in the National League.
20:15Still have a long ways to go.
20:16See what happens with Otani if he gets back and he pitches.
20:19But I really think there's a real shot that the Cubs and the Phillies, who are two and three on
20:26my list,
20:26could end up being the two biggest threats to the Dodgers in the National League.
20:31And Gossman and Holmes could end up going 1-2 for the Chicago Cubs when you look at it in
20:38a postseason,
20:40in a rotation, and in a series.
20:42So I think that's what Jed Hoyer just did.
20:44Just traded for his top two pitchers with Holmes and with Gossman in a potential matchup in the postseason.
20:52I like what the Guardians did.
20:53You know, I think that when you look at what they were able to do, getting Griffin from the Nationals,
20:57I thought that was strong.
20:58Plus, Joe Adele, Adele, hello.
21:04And I love the fact, and I think Adele is terrific in the field.
21:07I think Adele could absolutely rake.
21:10Great power bad.
21:11Listen, I think the Guardians are a sneaky good team, big picture,
21:16and all you got to do is make the playoffs in the American League.
21:18And the Padres, who are still on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs,
21:23they, to me, are now in position to leapfrog Arizona.
21:26And I think with all the negativity in San Diego, they can still make it.
21:31Getting Mize from Detroit, getting Robbie Ray, that is outstanding.
21:36So I'm going to go Dodgers, Phillies, Cubs, Guardians, Padres for my five biggest winners
21:44from the Major League Baseball trade deadline.
21:47Dodgers are wasting no time breaking out their shiny new toy.
21:50Tarek Skubu is going to start tonight for L.A. and Chicago.
21:53And L.A.'s newest hurdler does not care what the haters have to say
21:57about him joining baseball's best team.
22:01I think every team could trade for me.
22:03You know, every team could make that acquisition.
22:07And I don't really sympathize with people that blame the Dodgers for anything they've done.
22:12You know, they've developed a really good organization.
22:14They draft well.
22:15They acquire talent really well.
22:16They retain talent.
22:18It's a winning organization.
22:21Now the complaints seem to be because they've won the last two World Series.
22:24You know, I don't think it was like that three years ago.
22:26So, I don't really sympathize with people that are complaining
22:32because the Dodgers, you know, do all the right things.
22:34Bravo, Tarek Skubu.
22:36Absolutely incredible.
22:37I don't sympathize with the people ripping the Dodgers.
22:40It's like he was reading from a Shine Time script from yesterday's show.
22:44This is exactly what we have been saying.
22:47And look, Skubu is repped by Scott Boris.
22:51He's not signing a contract.
22:53He's going to take the most money, make the most money.
22:56When he hits free agency, he's right.
23:00Any team in baseball could have done this.
23:03The biggest loser at the trade deadline.
23:05We destroyed the Yankees earlier.
23:07It's Milwaukee.
23:08All the Brewers had to do was forget about baseball America and prospect ranking
23:13and give up the guys, go get Skubu, put them in rotation with the Miz.
23:18And all of a sudden, you could beat the Dodgers.
23:21And what were the Dodgers going to do?
23:23Keep losing?
23:24Right now, Ohtani is not pitching.
23:27And Glasnow is not pitching.
23:28And Snell's not pitching.
23:30And the Dodgers have lost four straight games.
23:33They got swept by the Red Sox, lost in Chicago last night.
23:37So what were you going to do?
23:39Satisfy the haters and the media elite?
23:42You know what great organizations in sports do?
23:45They try to win.
23:46Every single year, they try to win.
23:48This is why today we give the Red Sox credit.
23:51Heck, we give the Rays credit or the Guardians credit or the Astros making a solid deal.
23:56By the way, the Astros are back in the mix for everything in the American League.
24:00And those are smaller deals in scope and scale.
24:04But there's a point and a premise.
24:06And it's also, as Andrew Freeman and Dave Roberts, the lead baseball executive and manager for the Dodgers, talked about,
24:13it's about, it's about what the fans and the organization, what they demand, getting the best to win a World
24:19Series.
24:20Of course, I can't wait to watch Scoble pitch.
24:24I hope that he takes that ball and sticks it to the Chicago Cubs.
24:29And take a look at Scoble the past three seasons, right?
24:33I mean, and this is the combination of 2024, 2025, and what he's done in 2026.
24:38I mean, these numbers, look at them.
24:41They are absolutely a thing of beauty.
24:45Just incredible.
24:46And remember, he won the Cy Young in 2024, won the Cy Young 2025.
24:51He is the best of the best.
24:54He was available for every team.
24:56All the Brewers had to do was say, you know what?
24:59We want to try.
25:01It's better to try and win a World Series.
25:05And you might succeed.
25:06They have the best record in the National League.
25:07You can get home field if you just traded for Scoble.
25:11And then, you know what?
25:12Bring the big bad Dodgers to game six, game seven in your building where they have to go against Scoble
25:16in the miss.
25:17But they opted not to.
25:19They would rather cry.
25:21They would rather look at their Baseball America prospect rankings than give up what it takes with Detroit to go

25:30So, I think this is going to be a show tonight.

26:32The pact includes $51 million guaranteed.
26:35That's another record for the position.
26:39Let me make sure that my take is crystal clear.
26:42Bijan Robinson worth every single penny.
26:44I think Bijan Robinson is a superstar.
26:47He is absolutely sensational.
26:50He's fast, he's speedy, he's smart, he hits the holes, he's powerful, he catches the ball out of the backfield.
26:57He is a playmaker, the quintessential playmaker.
27:00You can make the case that he is the best running back in the NFL.
27:04You can make the case that all around he's the best playmaker in the NFL.
27:08He was worthy of when the Falcons took him with that fourth overall pick in the draft a few years
27:12ago.
27:13I think Bijan Robinson is a gem.
27:16And when you look at the average annual value for running backs right now in the National Football League,

28:06Because Jameer Gibbs, part of that same draft class, is also due new money.
28:12And when you look at it, and I would make this case, Robinson's the better player.

28:24And it's close, right?
28:26When you start looking at yards per carry, and rushing yards, and receiving touchdowns, and rushing touchdowns.
28:33I would pick, just like the Falcons did, Robinson as opposed to Gibbs.
28:37Now, I'm a huge Jameer Gibbs fan.

28:41Did what they did.
28:42You know, in the draft.
28:43It was kind of like the draft day movie where, you know, they traded back and traded up.
28:47And I thought it was a phenomenal job by Brad Holmes and company.
28:50But, great job by the Falcons getting ahead, because there's a contractual situation with Gibbs going on right now.
28:59And, you know, the way this thing works, and I don't get worked up about it.
29:02I'm sure Gibbs and his agents are going to use the Robinson contract and say, great, I want a dollar

29:10You're asking me to do a running back ranking, and we will at some point on Shine Time.
29:14I would put Robinson ahead of Gibbs, but Gibbs is going to end up getting more money.
29:20And, you know, if the Lions try to mess around, they're going to find out.
29:23And I don't love the Lions in any way, shape, or form this season.
29:27I don't think Dan Campbell really knows what the hell he's doing.
29:30But, you know, I could appreciate why Gibbs would get a couple more bucks than Bijan Robinson.
29:35But here's the deal when it comes to Robinson and the Falcons.

34:50Head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters on Tuesday that Sadiq, who is a certified freak when healthy,
34:57dealing with a setback from his off-season hernia surgery.
35:01Hernia issue that dates back to his time at Oregon.
35:05Now, Glenn remains confident that Sadiq is going to be ready for the regular season opener on September the 13th
35:11against the Tennessee Titans.
35:13But this is obviously something to monitor.
35:17Because I think when you're talking about a rookie missing his first training camp and valuable reps with the offensive
35:27coordinator,
35:28the offensive line, with Geno Smith, with Cade Klubnik, this is officially a deal.
35:36So we will continue to monitor this.
35:38You know, I'm not going to sit here and say, oh, the season for Sadiq or for the Jets, it's
35:44in ruins.
35:45But when the Jets drafted him, and remember, I wanted with the 16th overall pick, Omar Cooper Jr.,
35:50who the Jets ended up drafting later in the first round.
35:53And I thought that Darren Mugi absolutely crushed the draft and the off-season in particular.
35:58He was absolutely fantastic in terms of acquiring new players.
36:02But when we're talking about a pre-existing injury, surgery, complications, that, to me, is under the umbrella in August
36:14of not what you want.
36:16I'm not going to freak out.
