Backstage at V Festival 2011, we chat to Alex Turner and Matt Helders about working with Miles Kane, Helders' solo plans, and where they see themselves in five years time.
Transcript
00:08It's not like you sort of make a plan and think, right, we're going to go and play V Festival
00:13and save rock and roll, but it's like, yeah, I think it's cool that, you know, you do get a
00:18guitar band, like, because I guess there's not that many, like, playing it, and, you know, it should be in
00:24the, like, rock and roll music, shouldn't it, like, because it's,
00:30the best type, you know, I'm sure a lot of people that would have come to see us, like, in
00:38the arenas might come to this as well, you know, it's like, yeah, I think, I mean, the line-up's
00:45a lot more mainstream to the thing we used to play in, but that's, you know, why not, a bit
00:51of a change.
00:52You wonder if it's, like, you know, you're getting, or how much of a, like, sensationalized version of it you're
00:59getting.
01:01So, yeah, it's difficult to sort of understand, but, I mean, yeah, it looks sort of pretty terrible from where
01:06we were sitting.
01:07I think it's just sort of sad, really, that it can get to that, like, yeah.
01:13Not too long, like, a month or so, I mean, we did it with Ross Orton, the producer from Sheffield,
01:21and, yeah, it was a lot of fun, you know what I mean, like, we're all good friends with Miles,
01:28and we did, like, another Death Ramps tune with Richard Hawley a couple of years ago, like, this cover of
01:33a, this song called Bad Woman,
01:35And, I don't know, we just kind of not, we'd not, we didn't get around to doing any on the
01:39last record, and it's something we wanted to try and keep, keep going as a little, you know, it's just
01:44a bit, like, I think B-sides are a bit of a, a bit of a holiday for us anyway,
01:48like, sometimes it's fun, because it's going there for a day or two, and kind of mess around, there's no,
01:54like, pressure on it, and, yeah, so, just, you know, wrote some funny words for it with Miles, and, but
02:00I'm really pleased we have it turned out, and it seems to have gone down well, like, it's something we
02:05did,
02:05definitely be interested in, in doing, I don't know how, like, exactly how it would work, or, it's weird when
02:12you do things with, like, loads of different guests, I think, sometimes them albums, it's hard to make them hang
02:17together, I feel, or it seems as if it would be, but, I don't know, you don't know until you
02:21try, I suppose, so, maybe, yeah, maybe it could be cool.
02:25Doing my debut record, or celebrating four years since I did my debut record, that's what I thought.
02:33There you go.
02:35There you go.
