00:00:24He's being taken right now from Chennai to Tanjabur where he will be presented before police station questioned and then
00:00:30let off on station bail because the police have said we don't want to remand him in our custody.
00:00:35We don't want his custody. But meanwhile the DMK's defence is that Udeniti Stalin never named Trisha and so he
00:00:42said nothing wrong.
00:00:43There was no innuendo whatsoever.

00:02:53The leader of opposition, a day before the assembly session kicks off, was taken into custody,
00:02:58and he was arrested this morning from his home in Chennai.
00:03:01And since then, Udeniti Stalin right now is on his way, being taken to Tanjabur.
00:03:06The latest update is that he's reached Tanjabur, which means essentially that now he'll be taken to a police station.
00:03:13He will be questioned about the comments he's made, considering a case has been filed against him,
00:03:18and then let off on station bail.
00:03:20As the cops made very, very clear as well in the Madras High Court,
00:03:25the court too highlighted that he must be allowed out today on station bail.
00:03:30On your screens also are images of DMK supporters who've gathered in large numbers outside the police station
00:03:36where Udeniti Stalin is being taken.
00:03:37He will be granted station bail, but not before quite a bit of drama that will play out on the
00:03:43streets of Tanjabur.
00:03:44Look at the images on your screens.
00:03:46Hundreds of DMK supporters, DMK Khada, who've gathered there right now,
00:03:51just before Udeniti Stalin reaches that police station.
00:03:54We can confirm for you that the van in which he's being taken by the police has reached now in
00:04:01Tanjabur.

00:04:05We're seeing the images on our screens right now of the big show of strength by the DMK.
00:04:10Through the last 24 hours, there's been no question of an apology whatsoever from Udeniti Stalin or from the DMK.
00:04:17They've chosen rather to defend what he said, saying he didn't name anyone, he didn't name Trisha.
00:04:22And we're seeing in line with that now crowds, massive crowds that have gathered at the Tanjabur police station.
00:04:32That's right.
00:04:33In fact, a lot of crowd there from the DMK Khada doing push and pull with cops there in Tanjabur.
00:04:39Tanjabur's SP is at the spot.
00:04:41All top cops in Tanjabur are there to make sure that there is no collapse in law and order.
00:04:45The DMK Khada's there in a massive show of strength, trying to push through the barricade and enter the police
00:04:52station.
00:04:53And then there is the police trying to push back and sort of control the situation there.
00:04:57Effigies are being burned.
00:04:59Posters are being torn down and being burned.
00:05:01Truly dramatic showdown.
00:05:03A show of strength indeed from both parties, TVK Khada's and DMK.
00:05:07Members of both parties staged a huge protest today throughout Tamil Nadu.
00:05:11And what we're learning is that Vijay has, Udayanidhi has almost reached the spot.
00:05:16He will be taken for interrogation.
00:05:18But of course, he will be let down, you know, let out after station bail.
00:05:22There's not going to be any sort of judicial remand or judicial custody.
00:05:25He will be, you know, let out from the police station.
00:05:29Tomorrow is the big day in Tamil Nadu.
00:05:31Tomorrow is the finance budget for which the presence of leader of opposition is quite important.
00:05:35But it's remained to be seen whether Udayanidhi Stalin will be able to make it for tomorrow's crucial day or
00:05:41not.
00:05:42Okay, let me bring in Pramod Madhav.
00:05:43Pramod is currently headed to Tanjavur.
00:05:46He's been tracking the van in which Udayanidhi Stalin has been travelling.
00:05:49And the latest update we have, Pramod, is that the van has reached Tanjavur.
00:05:54So it's just a matter of time before we get those images of Udayanidhi Stalin reaching the police station
00:05:58where we see these massive crowds that have gathered.
00:06:01What's expected post that, Pramod?
00:06:03Is he going to be released immediately?
00:06:05Will he be questioned?
00:06:07Akshita, the time frame that was earlier given to us is that like Udayanidhi will be actually integrated between 7
00:06:11and 7.30 p.m.
00:06:13We're not exactly sure because this can actually increase depending on the…
00:06:14So just 30 minutes, just 30 minutes of questioning for which he's being brought from Chennai to Tanjavur.
00:06:20It actually depends on the police officers over there.
00:06:22So like this is the time frame that was given to us which can actually increase and it can go
00:06:26up to 9 p.m. also.
00:06:28The important aspect is that the court has said that Udayanidhi Stalin must be released today itself.
00:06:32So the time exactly, which means today is 11.59 p.m.
00:06:37So until then also if the police wants they can do that and considering that Udayanidhi has been brought in
00:06:41almost 400 kilometers from Chennai to this particular interrogation, that can also happen.
00:06:46But the only difference that has happened right now is that like until 12 p.m. of today, the kind
00:06:50of like sections filed against Udayanidhi Stalin, two of them being non-pailable defense, everything seemed like Udayanidhi might get
00:06:56arrested today.
00:06:57However, by 2.15 it all changed where the police very clearly stated that he has been arrested but he
00:07:02will be released on station bail.
00:07:03All they want to do is take him to Tanjavur and interrogate him.
00:07:07You know, this is the kind of interrogation and if the police wanted they could have done it in Chennai
00:07:10or any location.
00:07:11But you know, the instances are there where police actually come to your home and they actually interrogate you on
00:07:16certain instances.
00:07:16But here, police was very clear that they wanted to take Udayanidhi Stalin to Tanjavur which earlier meant only one
00:07:23thing that he could get arrested and such.
00:07:25But right now they have changed their stance and all he is being brought over here and we have been
00:07:28told earlier that the interrogation can go up to 7.30 p.m.
00:07:31But depending on the kind of explanation or the answers he gives, the time can also increase depending on the
00:07:37investigation officers.
00:07:38No, so Pramod, you know, on one hand there are questions about the DMK's defence saying Udayanidhi Stalin didn't name
00:07:45anyone.
00:07:45But for anyone who understands Tamil, it was fairly clear what exactly Udayanidhi meant.
00:07:50But on the other hand, there's also a question and we're flashing what M.K. Stalin said in his detailed
00:07:54statement.
00:07:55He's defended his son of course saying he didn't target anyone specifically.
00:07:58If he ever made any sort of comment, vulgar comment, he would immediately apologise.
00:08:02That's the kind of leader he is.
00:08:03But along with that, he's also highlighted Pramod that if there was no arrest plan, why is Udayanidhi Stalin being
00:08:10moved from Chennai to Tanjavur?
00:08:12Has there been any remark, comment, clarification on that?
00:08:16Certainly, that's the kind of point we're also trying to make.
00:08:18The important aspect over here is that like if they had to just investigate Udayanidhi Stalin about this particular issue,
00:08:23considering a case has been registered based on a complaint, they could just go to his home and kind of
00:08:28like question him over there
00:08:28or they could take him to a local police station or Udayanidhi Stalin could be in a question over there.
00:08:33But the thing is that like we were little, I know, actually investigating this because of the multiple sections that
00:08:38has been filed against Udayanidhi Stalin,
00:08:40two are non-bailable offence, which means police can clearly arrest him on the particular sections.
00:08:45But however, when this case went to the court, this is when, you know, everything seems to have changed
00:08:49because the court very clearly said what is the point of this particular case.
00:08:52Because in case, if the, you know, DMK sources claim that in case the court goes ahead and investigates it,
00:08:57then, you know, the police will have to give the exact details of it.
00:09:00And if that happens, you know, the case doesn't seem to be strong.
00:09:04This is what DMK says.
00:09:05And it looks like even after that, as Udayanidhi Stalin was already arrested,
00:09:09even before the case could be heard by the court,
00:09:11we've been told that the police are taking him all the way to Tanjavur.
00:09:14Because, you know, this kind of routine only is for any kind of, like, arrest only this happens,
00:09:19where the person will be directly taken to the police station,
00:09:22whichever district the police station is, and he'll be arrested over there.
00:09:25So, that's what, you know, it was meant earlier.
00:09:27But one thing, Achita, the thing that you asked earlier,
00:09:29we also put forward the same question to Udayanidhi Stalin.
00:09:32We asked him, did you say something, you know, wrong yesterday,
00:09:35for which he very clearly said that, like, you itself, you know, respond to it.
00:09:38And then he said, I do not take anybody's name except for Vijay Achita.

00:10:05But let me give you a sense of what's happened in the last 24 hours.
00:10:08It's been a rather dramatic day in Tamil Nadu politics.
00:10:12We've seen it happen before, whether it was Karan Anadi, whether it was Jailalita,
00:10:16these kind of dramatic arrests taking place.
00:10:18Udayanidhi Stalin, though, was taken into custody from his home early this morning.
00:10:22He maintains, he said nothing wrong.
00:10:24And mind you, we will play out for you what his original comment was for you,
00:10:27the viewer, to decide whether it was wrong, whether there was innuendo made or not.
00:10:33But also, right after that, while he was taken into custody,
00:10:36the police have said that he is going to be granted station bill.
00:10:40He'll be questioned in Tanjavur and let off.
00:10:42So, through the day, that seven-hour journey from Chennai to Tanjavur,
00:10:45we've seen non-stop political action with reactions and counters coming in.
00:10:50Let's sum all of that up for you.
00:11:06After his controversial remarks against actor Trisha Krishnan,
00:11:10Tamil Nadu leader of opposition Udayanidhi faced Tamil Nadu cops.
00:11:26The drama began around 8 a.m.
00:11:29as security was tightened outside Udayanidhi's residence.
00:11:41Soon after, police officers arrived with an arrest warrant and entered the house.
00:11:47Before they could reach Udayanidhi, they were briefly stopped by M.A. Subramanian.
00:12:27Once the situation settled, the police approached Udayanidhi,
00:12:31informed him of the proceedings and requested him to accompany them.
00:12:38Udaya was led away by cops amid massive DNK protests.
00:13:00At around 11 a.m., Udayanidhi was formally placed under arrest.
00:13:08This is turning extremely volatile.
00:13:11Our cadres are fighting with police over there and more drama cards,
00:13:15more barricades are being taken by the DMK cadres.
00:13:19Serious situation over there.

00:44:55Akshita, it looks like, you know, the plans have completely changed over there.
00:44:58Earlier, for 30 minutes, within Isis Island, we've been told, was supposed to be investigated
00:45:02in this particular area, that too, at South Tanjavur.
00:45:04However, the plan completely changed and right now he's brought in board to the seven Sengipati
00:45:09Kaval Neli, that is the police station of Tanjavur District.

00:45:42Udaydidi Stalin has decided to cooperate with officials for now. He's entered the police station
00:45:46after registering a small protest saying, look, in court, you mentioned a different
00:45:50police station, you've brought me to a different police station, but he is now cooperating,
00:45:53we understand, with the police officials. What happens next?
00:45:59Well, one thing is very certain, like you said earlier, the actual case that has been
00:46:04filed against Udaydidi Stalin, two of them of the sections, non-bailable offences.
00:46:08However, the police in the court, today by 2.15 p.m., while they actually, the hearing
00:46:12began, the police had very clearly said that they will go take Udaydidi Stalin to Tanjavur,
00:46:16South Police, and there, they will actually give them a station bail itself. And right

00:47:56van that Udaydidi Stalin was seated. This is from moments ago, because I can confirm for
00:48:00you that right now the leader of opposition is inside the police station. He is being
00:48:04questioned, as was the formality, as the cops wanted, and then he will be released on bail.
00:48:10But you can see that for the cops, it's been a situation hard to control because of the
00:48:14sheer number of people who had gathered there. And even then, at that point, once the policeman
00:48:19had reached, Udaydidi Stalin refused to get out, saying this was not the police station
00:48:23that was mentioned in court. And so I'm not going to step out right now. But all of that
00:48:27has ended now because Udaydidi is, as we speak, inside the police station. And as we get you
00:48:33these images, some also of minor injuries that DMK Kata have suffered, these are images from
00:48:38just moments ago when Udaydidi Stalin reached the police station, Eta Jabor. I'm just going
00:48:43to hand it over once again for one quick answer from Pramod Madhav, because he's giving us
00:48:47a sense of what's happening there right now. Pramod, just show us around you what's really
00:48:52happening, have, you know, tempos cooled, all things under control.
00:48:55Certainly, Akshita, we are, Akshita, we are kind of in a small buffer zone over here.
00:49:01You see, those are the DMK carers who are protesting at this location. And you have the police who
00:49:06are actually blocking the way over here. So on one side, DMK carers are really, really
00:49:10upset and they are protesting, while on the other side, you have the police station over
00:49:13there. And here, actually, the police have also blocked the gates of B7 Sikipati police station.
00:49:19has been completely closed, while the carers are over there. And this is the only kind
00:49:23of crowd. The police force, which you can see over here, could be of 100. However, the
00:49:28actual crowd over here should be at least 500 by now. And it is only going to increase.

00:49:38is the situation. You can also see that they are trying to force enter into this particular

00:53:44How come the case was immediately filed? And how come such kind of action is not taken by
00:53:48the government over the water issue? But here they are doing it. That's what you could see
00:53:51over here. Right now, protest is happening and everybody at this location. Over here,
00:53:56still, the commotion is happening as the police are trying to keep this particular line. Still,
00:54:01the crowd is entering in a large number. And after all this also, they are fighting over.
00:54:05These are the people who are trying to break the line while the police are trying to keep
00:54:08this line over here, because on the other side, we have the police station.

00:54:15that we have of Uthedil Salim at that police station. This is the Sengipatti police station
00:54:19where you've had Uthedil Salim just disembark from the vehicle. And you can see all the senior

00:54:32into custody. He's seen smiling, sending across a message that he is doing just fine, that he will
00:54:38fight this out legally, as he told the media, waving to the crowds that have gathered in large
00:54:43numbers after he's disembarked. There was a brief disagreement there because before he got off the
00:54:47vehicle, he said, look, what was said in court was a different police station. You brought me to a
00:54:51different police station. There was a bit of a disagreement with the police there. But finally,
00:54:55Uthedil Salim stepped out, waved to the massive crowds there who've gathered outside the police
00:55:00station. He's now inside. As we speak, the leader of opposition is being questioned by the police
00:55:06over the allegations that he faces or the comment that he made in this very district, in Tanjabur
00:55:11yesterday. But you can see Uthedil Salim, all smiles, waving to the crowds, reassuring them as he
00:55:18makes his way inside the police station. And I can tell you that outside the police station where
00:55:22Pramod Madhav is right now, you can see the, you can feel the anger, the frustration of the
00:55:28Cardo who've gathered there, who are claiming that this is an illegal arrest and that this is a
00:55:32scared TVK government going after their leader. Ultimately, however, with what's playing out,
00:55:38Uthedil Salim right now is in the police station being questioned, after which he will be let off.
00:55:44The police have made it very clear that they're not going to be seeking his custody, that they will
00:55:48let him off. They will give him ground on station bail as soon as the questioning is done. And I
00:55:53want to
00:55:53bring in Pramod Madhav once again with those pictures, Pramod, that's coming of Uthedil Salim,
00:55:58beaming all smiles, refusing to, you know, say at any point that, you know, what he said was wrong
00:56:06or any of that sort. He's putting up a brave face saying, I will fight this legally. I said nothing
00:56:10wrong.
00:56:15Well, absolutely. Still, you can see the crowd that is actually over here. They started throwing
00:56:19slipper, hurling slippers as well. And police are trying to keep the crowd under control. The bigger
00:56:24issue is like, just like you mentioned, Uthedil Salim is very clearly saying that he did not say
00:56:29anything in a way, trying to insult anybody. He says, you know, DMK says that his words were twisted.
00:56:35And that's the reason. The bigger question here is that, like Uthedil Salim, being brought
00:56:39all the way from Chennai to Tanjavur. And this is where the issue is happening because now,
00:56:45instead of being taken to south Tanjavur, he's been brought, he's been brought to actually
00:56:50Singitipati, where also DMK carers have gathered. In fact, they're also holding their flags over
00:56:55there. And now they are protesting, demanding that they should be allowed inside the police
00:57:00station, which is definitely not possible, Lakshita. That's why we are saying that the situation
00:57:04is like extremely grim. Police are trying to keep it under control. They are struggling.
00:57:08They need more force. But for now, you could see that there is a kind of like constant push
00:57:13and pull over here to enter the police. While Uthedil Salim is inside the police station right
00:57:17now. We are believing that the actual investigation could go for 70, 30 minutes, post which he is
00:57:23definitely being released now. But now they are not allowing anybody inside Lakshita.
00:57:27For now, none of the car is being allowed in for obvious reasons. There is a fear that there
00:57:32would be a complete breakdown of law and order. The police are having a tough time keeping
00:57:36these emotions in check, keeping this cadre in check. But Uthedil Salim there, accompanied
00:57:41by all of you, see the stronghold, essentially, all the strongmen of the DMK coming together
00:57:46for the show of strength. All the serial leaders of the DMK with Uthedil Salim behind him there
00:57:51as he appears in the police station. He got out of the van, made it a point immediately to
00:57:56step out, wave at the crowds, reassure them, all smiles to send out a very clear message.
00:58:01The many interactions that Pramod Madhav has had with him to this morning also, it was
00:58:05a similar message that I will face this legally. I said nothing wrong. And it's with that particular
00:58:10sentiment that Uthedil Salim now is entering that particular police station. He's at the
00:58:14Sengipati police station, not at the Tanjavur South police station as was originally planned
00:58:18because of the chaos and the massive crowds that have gathered. Hundreds of DMK card are there.

00:58:31van, waved to the crowds. I can confirm for you that he's right now inside the police station

00:58:45morning, he's made it a point to send out a message that he's cool, he's calm, he's composed

00:58:56his body language is calm, he's composed, he's smiling. Even this morning when he was being taken
00:59:01away by Tanjavur police, we saw that smile on his face, that kind of calm confidence suggesting
00:59:07that somehow he is going to make his way out of, you know, of this mess that he has landed

00:59:12up in. You know, initially he was reluctant to get down from this police van. When the police made
00:59:18that U-turn away from Tanjavur when they brought him to Sengipati police station, he was all
00:59:23confused and puzzled. He refused to get down off that police vehicle and said that according
00:59:28to Madras High Court, I have to be interrogated only in Tanjavur police station, so please only
00:59:32take me there. I'm not getting out. After much deliberation, even with IG Central, Mr. Balakrishnan,
00:59:38Tanjavur, SP, all the top cops, IAs, rank officers sat down there inside the police van trying
00:59:43to convince Uday Nidhi to get down from the vehicle, but he didn't budge. He did not want
00:59:48to get down. Now, after a while, the other senior leaders, the likes of former minister
00:59:53K.N. Nehru, Shekhar Babu and Uday Nidhi, the three of them had, you know, a small huddle
00:59:58inside the police van. And after much deliberation, it is only now he has gotten down from the police
