00:46Private prosecution lawyer Lorna Capunan says Vice President Sara Duterte's alleged misuse of confidential funds was a scam.
00:53On Tuesday, August 4, day 12 of Duterte's impeachment trial, Capunan asks prosecution witness,
00:59State Auditor Roderick Wamil, whether Duterte's failure to liquidate a bulk of her office's confidential funds
01:05was face value evidence that she had used it for personal benefit.
01:09Your Honor, please, ang tawag ko lang doon, hindi prima facie evidence kung akong tatanungin, scam ito.
01:17Move to strike, Your Honor. Move to strike. That is out of order, Your Honor.
01:20No further questions, Your Honor. Move to strike. So stricken from the record.
01:25The exchange is one of the highlights of Capunan's direct examination of Wamil
01:29on the article of impeachment on alleged misuse of confidential funds.
01:33Capunan is a seasoned lawyer.
01:35A decade ago, she briefly represented pork barrel scam conspirator Janet Lim Napoles.
01:39Her chops are on full display in Tuesday's hearing.
01:42She injects levity as she leads her witness to drive home her points,
01:46playing to both the legal and public audiences.
01:48Although stricken off the official record, her scam statement has made the headlines.
01:54Pinabudal tayo. Ang daming mga pangalan.
01:58Piatos. Merry Grace Piatos.
02:01Si Ang Dilim. Si Pikit.
02:04At marami pang magkakaroon na scam.
02:07And other names.
02:10Vice President Sara Duterte's defense team says there is no rule that bars confidential funds
02:15from being spent within 11 days.
02:17The defense's cross-examination of witness Roderick Wamil, a state auditor,
02:22centers on the COA's Joint Circular No. 2015-01
02:25that governs the auditing of confidential and intelligence funds.
02:29Defense lawyer Michael Poa asks Wamil if there is a specific provision in the circular
02:33that bars the usage of confidential funds within a certain number of days.
02:37Mayroon po bang nagbabawal na gamitin ito in 11 days?
02:41Wala din po. Kaya hindi po namin sinama sa findings namin yung 11 days na disbursement.
02:46Poa then affirms during a press conference that the witness confirmed the 11-day disbursement
02:50was not in the COA's findings.
02:52The lawyer also asks Wamil about the nature of the Commission on Audit's findings
02:56on Duterte's confidential funds, which he then says were only preliminary.
03:02Sen. Loren Legarda skips the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte for the second time
03:07on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
03:10This after the Office of the Ombudsman announced pending plunder and graft complaints
03:14against her and her son, Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste.
03:18The complaints are related to Leviste's solar energy projects.
03:22Rattler asked Legarda's office why the senator has been absent but has yet to receive a reply as of posting.
03:27Legarda denies the accusations, saying they were utterly baseless and no public funds were involved,
03:32and adds she is prepared to bring out the truth.
03:35She adds, quote,
03:36We remain confident that once the facts are laid bare, we will be vindicated and our names cleared.
03:42Legarda's attendance at the next Senate session and impeachment trial remains unclear amid the controversy.
03:49Teachers' groups call out President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the still unfulfilled promise of laptops.
03:54Instead, they received lapel microphones.
03:57Marcos promised the delivery of laptops to every public school teacher during his 2025 State of the Nation address.
04:03The Alliance of Concerned Teachers and the Teachers' Dignity Coalition say
04:07laptops remain their most needed gadget, not lapel mics or voice amplifiers.
04:12Days after Marcos' 2026 Sona, where he promised to provide helpful and innovative teaching aids,
04:17several schools posted on social media that they had received the lapel mics.
04:21The Department of Education clarifies, the procurement processes for the two items are separate.
04:26But ACT reported that it received feedback from teachers that the lapel microphones were of poor quality with weak audio
04:32output.
04:33ACT adds, some units have supposedly malfunctioned or stopped working after being used just once.
04:38The two teachers' groups also hit the government for the insufficient number of laptops slated for distribution.
04:45Your 2026 Mugatla D.C. Open champion, Alexander Ayala!
04:51Filipino tennis star Alex Ayala captures her first-ever WTA Tour crown
04:56after her win against World No. 3 Jessica Pigula in the Washington Open.
05:00Ayala and Pigula's game started on Monday, 12 midnight Manila time,
05:04but was stopped and postponed to Tuesday, August 4 due to heavy rain.
05:08Ayala dominated the resumption as she cemented her place among the sport's rising stars
05:12by becoming the first Filipina to win a Tour crown.
05:18Thank you to all my supporters, especially the Filipino community.
05:23Here in D.C. and back home and wherever you are in the world, I really, guys, I feel all
05:29the love.
05:30But the path to the crown was far from easy as she had to get past high-ranked players and
05:34the defending champion.
05:35Ayala eliminated reigning Olympic and Asian Games champion Zhang Chinwen in the round of 32.
05:41She dethroned the defending champion Leila Fernandez in the round of 16.
05:45Ayala then stunned World No. 10 Elinas Vitolina of Ukraine in the quarterfinals
05:49and dominated former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka in the semifinals.
05:53The WTA Tour crown has propelled Ayala to the World Top 20 for the first time in her career.
