00:06a cargo ship has come under attack in the Omani sector of the strait.
00:11The latest incident happened late on August 3rd.
00:15According to the United Kingdom Maritime Operations,
00:18the crew of an unnamed cargo vessel sent out a distress call
00:22after reporting that their ship had been hit by an unknown projectile.
00:26The attack took place around 20 nautical miles northeast of Kassab,
00:32right in the middle of the Omani coastal channel that is widely used by Gulf shipping traffic.
00:37What makes this even more concerning is that this was not an isolated incident.
00:43Just 24 hours earlier, another vessel, an unnamed tanker,
00:48reported hearing a powerful blast in almost the same location.
00:52That ship escaped without damage and continued its voyage.
00:57But the back-to-back incidents are now raising fresh security concerns across the region.
01:03The attacks also come at a sensitive diplomatic moment.
01:06Iran and Oman are currently holding talks over how shipping through the strait of Hormuz
01:11should be managed in the future.
01:13Iran has long opposed the Omani coastal route because it bypasses Tehran's own maritime authority.
01:20Iranian hardliners argue that Iran should have greater control over vessel movements
01:26through the strait, even though it has traditionally remained an international waterway.
01:31Reports suggest that one proposal under discussion would split shipping responsibilities between the
01:37two countries.
01:38Inbound vessels would travel through a northern lane administered by Iran,
01:43while outbound traffic would use an Omani-controlled route.
01:46Some reports also claim both countries could share revenue collected through a new service fee
01:53on ships passing through the strait.
01:55However, a United States official has disputed those reports,
01:59saying that any future arrangement would be temporary and would not involve transit tolls.
02:05The latest attack also comes as diplomatic messaging remains deeply divided.

02:16planned airstrikes to give diplomacy another chance.
02:20Iran, however, continues to deny that it is negotiating with Washington,

02:32through the strait of Hormuz.
02:33For now, investigators have not identified who launched the latest attack.
