00:10To allow urban renewal in an area that is well located, close to public transport and
00:17close to employment.
00:18The NCA had proposed increasing height limits in the precinct to 15 storeys, including over
00:24existing low-rise apartment complexes in Griffith.
00:27Now limits in that area have been capped at 3 storeys, though other parts of the precinct
00:32could still rise to 12.
00:34We did hear what the community and stakeholders were saying to us and so we've made some amendments.
00:41It's a small win for residents of those units south of the roundabout, though somewhat out
00:46of the precinct altogether.
00:47We can never be certain this is going to stay here.
00:50They could change it, because we're on the National Capital Authority, they could change
00:53at any stage to be 10, 12 storeys.
00:57That means we'd have to, if someone would want to buy this, we'd have to move out.
01:01With existing multi-storey apartments and underutilised industrial land, many locals aren't opposed
01:07to new developments.
01:08But they want assurances and an ongoing say, including about traffic on risky roads.
01:14It's already horrendous and it's going to be worse.
01:18I still think that this amendment should be assessed in more detail.
01:21Through an inquiry there's the Joint Standing Committee on the National Capital and External
01:25Territories.
01:26I've been pushing for this to happen.
01:28The ACT Government, which raised concerns about increased pressure on local services,
01:33will be part of a steering committee for the precinct.
01:35And the NCA says controls are legislated and won't be subject to change without scrutiny.
01:41We also will require of future potential developers that they submit detailed plans of their development
01:50proposals.
01:51Cold comfort for residents feeling left in limbo.
