00:00First day of pads on for the players.
00:05B, no matter how many years you were in the league,
00:07did you get excited for that first day of pads?
00:09Yeah.
00:11That's why I stayed out there alone.
00:13You know, the days I was out here and they had on no pads,
00:17I immediately leave.
00:20When they put on pads today, I watched it all the way up to,
00:23I started walking up here at 9.52.
00:26Yeah.
00:27I wanted to see as much as I can.
00:28Totally.
00:29Because I know although you're not taking each other to the ground,
00:32you're not hitting, but your intensity goes up immediately.
00:36And you want to see how some guys react.
00:38You know, you looking for Antonio just like I was.
00:41Yep.
00:42Kay Tron, I wanted to see how he lowers those pads and things of that nature.
00:46Watching O-Way and many who go against the offensive linemen in the one-on-one.
00:50I loved watching the O-line, D-line.
00:52I want to see everybody who goes to see the receivers, DBs, linebackers,
00:56I want to see the offensive linemen, D-linemen go against each other.
00:59You know who had a great session with pads on?
01:02Sam Cosby.
01:03You can tell he's fully healed from that injury now,
01:06whereas last year he's kind of working his way back from it.
01:09Cosby put a D-lineman in the dirt today during those one-on-ones.
01:14It was pretty darn impressive.
01:15In the blender?
01:16Indeed, yeah.
01:19Cosby stood out to me.
01:20I thought Bill looked really good.
01:22Honestly, the backs have looked good.
01:26The rookie, I want to open the phone lines up.
01:28Let's just talk some ball.
01:28800-636-1067.
01:31800-636-1067.
01:33What I'd love to get, and maybe I'm being greedy,
01:36but the amount of people out there that are like,
01:38yo, I listen to you every day.
01:40If you are now in the car driving home from practice, call us.
01:43Because I want to be, and if you weren't here today
01:47and you were here Saturday, that's cool too.
01:48Or if you're just following along on social media,
01:51reading all the reports, whatever, that's cool too.
01:53Who has stood out to you most in camp?
01:55Who are you most encouraged by so far in camp?
01:59And I got a lot of people that I've been encouraged by,
02:02but I want to make sure I give this young man credit
02:05because he's a young guy.
02:07Joshua Josephs, the rookie out of Tennessee, really long.
02:11Yeah.
02:11He's still learning, right?
02:13He's certainly still learning.
02:15But at the same time, man, he has been exciting to watch
02:21and makes plays.
02:23And you and I were talking about him.
02:26He's a, I believe, fifth-round rookie, right?
02:28So there's going to be some moments where you're like,
02:30all right, you've got to learn.
02:31Some of his rushes, he gets out too wide.
02:33He does.
02:34But some of them, the speed is very real.
02:36And what has encouraged me is he's shown a good mix of power too.
02:41Yeah, I think what he, he is so fast.
02:44Guys are trying to get back, and he can use that speed against them.
02:49But when he goes around that hump, he gets so wide that they can just ride him around.
02:54And I think he's going to tighten that up a little bit, be able to use more strength to get
02:59past those guys,
03:00or put them into the lap of the quarterback.
03:02You know, but he has a lot of guys out there, I think, who's teaching him.
03:07And Shaysom can play.
03:09He can rush.
03:10Oh, wait.
03:11A minute who, I'm watching those guys.
03:13And so Joseph being a young dude has been impressive.
03:17You know, and then Jean-Baptiste, I've been watching him look sleek too.
03:22All these dudes in the 41 numbers rushing, it was throwing me off at first.
03:26Yeah, 41.
03:2841, 45, 48.
03:29I thought Jean-Baptiste does look good.
03:30Yeah.
03:31And I'm happy for him because he's coming off a big injury.
03:34But, yeah, the 41, 45, 48 part of town, I'm like, I'm constantly looking at my roster.
03:39Yes.
03:40So, for those that know, 41 is Jean-Baptiste wearing 41 now.
03:45Chason, who is big?
03:4645.
03:47Wearing 45.
03:48And then 48 is the rookie, Joshua Josephs.
03:51Phones are open.
03:52800-636-1067.
03:54800-636-1067.
03:57Who has impressed you?
03:57I know there was a moment today that I really liked.
04:01And this was early on and got the crowd really excited.
04:04I was glad for the crowd today because the crowd on Saturday was bigger.
04:07First day of camp, people get excited.
04:10Plus, it's a Saturday versus a Monday.
04:12Some people got to work today.
04:13And I think today was season ticket holders instead of general public or whatever.
04:19But relatively early in the 11 session, you saw McLaurin go up on a fade, high point it,
04:26toe-tap touchdown.
04:28And he got up, and the crowd's going nuts.
04:30And it was a great throw from Jaden.
04:31And he was so fired up and excited.
04:34He immediately, like, sees Luke, jumps up for a big chest bump, runs over to Jaden,
04:38daps him up.
04:39And then you just saw the joy.
04:41Remember Dan Quinn last week said, you can see with Terry he's playing with joy?
04:45You saw that, and he just screamed a big-time LFG.
04:51And none of it was like playing.
04:53You could just feel what it meant for him in a lot of ways.
04:57And I was excited to see that.
05:01He's doing it early, and he's there with his teammates like he wanted to be last year.
05:06You know, unfortunately, you go through the negotiation stuff.
05:09But to be here right now, Terry understands how you get your body ready for this thing.
05:15You know what I'm saying?
05:16And I think the muscle memory is starting to fall in there right now.
05:20Last year, out on the side by yourself doing things with a trainer, that's not being in real football.
05:27Totally.
05:28The other interesting part is when you're watching these rookies,
05:31and I would say Styles hasn't really had these moments,
05:35but Antonio Williams, who I've been super excited by,
05:38had a moment today where you're like, okay, still is a rook.
05:41He lined up on the outside on a run play that ended up coming to him.
05:47And I'm guessing his responsibility in that play call,
05:52and some of this we're guesstimating, right?
05:53I don't know exactly.
05:55I'm guessing his responsibility is to try to get to the safety, to block off the safety.
05:59But if the corner comes up and plays you in press,
06:01you first then have to block that corner if it's a run play coming your way.
06:05And he didn't.
06:06He got off and went to the safety.
06:07The corner's able to pop in.
06:09Did he go inside?
06:09Yeah.
06:10If he going outside, he make the corner turn his back,
06:12then you can go to the safety.
06:13That would have helped out a little bit.
06:14Right.
06:14But he just dropped right outside of him.
06:18And those are the things.
06:19They're going to watch that tape, and they're going to say,
06:21hey, this is why you don't do that.
06:23And it's good to see those, like, coachable moments, too.
06:27Styles.
06:28We'll see in practice when the guy don't get hit in the ribs.
06:29Right.
06:30Because that corner was cracking down hard, man.
06:32If you get hit in the ribs, then you're going to have a conversation with that guy.
06:37I know you would.
06:39Mitch Tischler, Beltway Football, going to join us at noon.
06:41You're listening to me, Mitch Finley.
06:43Phone lines are open.
06:44What commanders players are standing out for you?
06:47800-636-1067.
06:49One dude that stood out to me,
06:51and I thought it was great for him to have a standout,
06:53was Chigakonquo.
06:54Yeah.
06:55On Saturday, with Bates out the first time,
07:00it almost seemed like they were letting the other guys get to work
07:02because it was a lot of Senate, a lot of Yankoff, even some Lawrence Cager.
07:07And we didn't see much of Chig, and we saw plenty today.
07:11I don't know if you noticed, B, there was a play where Chig got kind of caught up,
07:17turned around, fell awkwardly.
07:18I think it was with Amenahu, and he got up a little ginger,
07:22and I was like, but he was totally fine.
07:25He came back out two plays later and caught a touchdown.
07:28I want to hit these phones, 800-636-1067.
07:32Is it Marius, Jeff, on line one?
07:35I hope I'm – Marius.
07:37Marius is on line one.
07:38What's up, Marius?
07:39Who stood out for you?
07:41What's up, boss?
07:42How y'all doing?
07:43So first off, Mikey looked great.
07:45They threw some fade routes to the corner today that Mikey was all over.
07:49Fat Man, Fat Man looked great in pads.
07:51That was super cool to see.
07:52But I think the guy who stood out to me the most was Jalen Lane.
07:55He looks like he's taken leaps ahead from last year.
07:58He was all over the field, and it was all great to see.
08:01How much do you like hearing that?
08:03I like it.
08:04Lane has looked good, dude.
08:05He's had a couple big catches and big opportunities.
08:08Phone lines are open, 800-636-1067.
08:11And you don't have to be here to chime in here,
08:14because there's a zillion clips on social media.
08:16You can read all the reports.
08:18Who has stood out for you?
08:19Now that we're four days into training camp, there has been a padded practice.
08:24I'm just curious, the players that have popped for people.
08:27We're going to keep the phones open a lot here.
08:29And maybe the players that have popped for you are because you wanted to see more.
08:33Stallion, who's popped for you, man?
08:35Honestly, Jalen Lane was one that I was actually kind of thinking about earlier,
08:38but the rookie Antonio Williams.
08:40Yeah, he is.
08:41Like, I was watching him just kind of work off to the side a little bit.
08:44He is quick.
08:45Slippery, dude.
08:46Like, he is slippery.
08:47Like, he was kind of running some in-routes there.
08:49I like what Antonio Williams brings to this team.
08:51And I can understand the vision of him being a slot receiver.
08:55Like, that's just what he is.
08:56And it makes sense after seeing him work with the ones.
08:58And seeing this offense, like, we apply these traditional titles and roles to players
09:05because that's, like, the conventional wisdom of it all, right?
09:09But, like, they're moving around all the time.
09:12Trey Burks is in motion seemingly every snap.
09:15That's the great thing about this offense.
09:16Right.
09:16So, like, yeah, Williams' traditional profile projects to be a slot guy,
09:21but it's not going to be just a slot guy, if that makes sense.
09:24Like, they're going to be moving around so frequently.
09:28Like, did you see – and, again, we are very much hamstrung what we're supposed to discuss.
09:32There was a play today where Bill lined up wide on the line, like an X.
09:38And eventually the fluidity of the play, it ended up going elsewhere.
09:42But, like, you can't help but notice this stuff.
09:44There's a lot of differences.
09:48It's giving him something to make them think you're about to do something and then shift.
09:53And then you shift and then you go back in motion.
09:54And your defense has to let you know what they're in.
09:58Is Damian on line two, Jeff?
10:01Damian, who stood out for you, bud?
10:05Rasul Douglas.
10:06Yeah.
10:08I predict he's going to have six interceptions this season.
10:12Six.
10:12All right.
10:14I like it.
10:15Because I think I told you, J.P., I think I was on here last week.
10:18Like I said, the commander's defense will have 14 interceptions this year.
10:22Last year they had eight.
10:24All right.
10:26Dude, Rasul going to have six.
10:28He is a guy that –
10:30Mikey has – listen, not –
10:32Mikey had four last year, didn't he?
10:33Not all corners have ball skills.
10:36A lot of times that's how they end up as corners instead of receivers.
10:38Right.
10:38That means they can't catch.
10:40Right.
10:40Mikey has them.
10:41Like when the balls –
10:43Even last year in a down season for Mikey, he still had a bunch of picks.
10:46Rasul Douglas has had two seasons where he's had five picks.
10:50I mean, we're going back a ways here.
10:53In 2021, he had five picks and two pick sixes.
10:57Hey.
10:57Like that got Josh Norman $100 million from Bruce Allen.
11:00Yeah.
11:01Even last season in his age 30 season on a terrible team, he had two picks for Miami.
11:07Right.
11:08I like Rasul Douglas.
11:09I think he's going to help this team.
11:10I like that call.
11:12You would like to think you're going to see significantly more turnovers for Washington
11:19because they're going to be aggressive.
11:21Yeah.
11:21I mean, I watched him today sitting there with Logan and watched those guys line up
11:25in basically A-gaps.
11:28And by the time that ball was blitzed, I mean it was snapped, they had completely changed up.
11:33So, if a quarterback is not on point, he's going to be in trouble against this team.
11:37And those guys lining up are athletic as hell.
11:41And just the amount of beef on the offensive line, on the defensive line, rather.
11:46Like, you like to think you're going to generate pressure.
11:49Yeah.
11:49And I think the scheme generates pressure.
11:51I think they've added players that will generate pressure.
11:55We've talked about kind of that role Van Ginkle has played in Minnesota the last couple years.
12:00Van Ginkle has just killed the skins, and I think everybody's trying to find a Van Ginkle replacement.
12:07I do wonder, Josephs with the length he has, Owey with the length he has, even Chason, Amenahu,
12:16I think you're going to see more passes batted.
12:20Like, I think there's going to be more action up in the air, just knocked around.
12:25You know what I mean?
12:25You watch them, like, when they're rushing, if they don't get there, they're putting them up.
12:29And you're talking about guys 6'5", 6'6".
12:32So, it's going to be quarterbacks having to try to throw over the top, which can make it float a
12:37little bit,
12:37get interceptions, and guys that try to drill it through them, and they can knock them down.
12:40So, I'm expecting some big things out of this defense, man.
12:43Well, and if the balls get knocked up in the air, with the speed and athleticism you have in the
12:50linebacking group,
12:52you would think guys can get to that.
12:55Yeah.
12:55You know what I'm saying?
12:56Oh, yeah.
12:57Like, Chennault and Stiles are elite athletes that should be able to kind of fly around.
13:02One dude that I think is going a little under the radar, because there's so much excitement about Owey and
13:08Stiles,
13:08is Frankie Louvoo, and getting him back to the role of not being forced to play the end,
13:15because everybody's hurt.
13:16Be a Tasmanian devil?
13:17Yeah, dude.
13:18Like, let him use his athleticism and run downhill.
13:22That's what works so well in 24.
13:24Yeah.
13:24And I think you'd love to recreate that.
