00:00The prosecution has objected to an application by Asnida Daim to stay proceedings in her case
00:06involving a charge of failing to declare her shareholdings in five companies.
00:11Asnida, the daughter of the late former finance minister Daim Zainuddin,
00:15is seeking to refer several questions of law to the federal court.
00:19Her lawyer, Nizamuddin Abdulhamid, argued that the questions raise legal issues
00:24similar to those in the case of Daim's widow, Naima Khalid,
00:27who is charged with failing to declare her assets.
00:31Deputy Public Prosecutor Nizwan Abdul Latib objected,
00:35saying the legal issues may be similar but the facts of the two cases were distinct.
00:39Sessions Court Judge Rasli Ahmed set August 17th for the prosecution to file its affidavit in reply
00:46with the defence's response due by September 1st.
00:49The court also fixed September 8th for further mention of the application.
00:53On April 7th, Asnida pleaded not guilty to furnishing a sworn statement
00:58that failed to comply with an MACC notice under Section 36, Subsection 1, Paragraph B
01:05of the MACC Act 2009, requiring her to declare specified shareholdings.
01:11The case concerns shareholdings in Amiraz, Arira Farms, Kangkong Catering, Transgrade and Gaja 3 Foods,
01:18with the offence allegedly committed at MACC headquarters in Putra Jaya on December 13th, 2023.
