00:00Some people say that you should live for yourself and some people say that it gives more happiness when you
00:04live for others.
00:05So there is a stray dog on the road and there are these kids who are having fun by throwing
00:11stones at the animal.
00:12And the animal is getting hit and hurt and those kids are all laughing.
00:16It appears as if one party and one party alone is the sufferer.
00:21That's not true.
00:22That's what appears on the surface.
00:25The fact is both are suffering, it's just that the suffering of one is visible and the suffering of the
00:33other is not visible.
00:34It will become visible at some other time.
00:37I'm not asking you to be a do-gooder, to be altruistic, social work.
00:42What I'm saying is social work is personal work.
00:45What I'm saying is universal good is personal good.
00:48And these two are indistinct.
00:50If by what you are doing, if by how you are living, you are causing suffering to others,
00:59then your way of living will be causing suffering to you as well, even if you do not recognize that.
