00:00Hi again.
00:01Temperatures exceeded 30 degrees Celsius in the south-east of England on Sunday afternoon,
00:05making today the 33rd time that has happened so far this year.
00:09And it's only set to get hotter as we go into the new working week.
00:12Low pressure currently sits towards the west of the UK, but it's ahead of this cold front
00:16that we're going to start to really import some hot and very humid air as we move into
00:19Monday.
00:20But the good news is if you don't like the heat and humidity, it's not going to last
00:23overly long.
00:24By the middle part of the week, temperatures will be lowering and we'll see some much fresher
00:27air moving in from the Atlantic on Wednesday and Thursday.
00:30So temperatures returning closer to average for the time of year.
00:33Now back to Sunday evening, and it has been a hot day with some hazy sunshine persisting
00:38into this evening for most.
00:39But out towards the west, the cloud is thicker, in fact, thick enough to bring a few spots of
00:43light rain across parts of Northern Ireland through this evening.
00:45And the rain tend to blossom as we go through the early hours of Monday morning across southern
00:49Scotland and central Scotland too, so turning fairly wet here.
00:53England and Wales, though, staying largely dry with some clear spells and a much more
00:57uncomfortable night for sleeping compared to last night.
00:59Temperatures holding up at between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius in some of our towns and
01:04cities.
01:05A slightly cooler night there across the far north of Scotland.
01:07Here locally, temperatures will dip into mid-single figures.
01:11Now for Scotland, it will be a wet start to Monday, particularly through the central
01:14belt, and we will see that rain gradually just pushing its way northwards as we go into
01:18the afternoon.
01:19So a fairly wet day to come here.
01:21Otherwise though, many parts of England and Wales will see plenty of sunshine.
01:24And once again, the temperatures will rapidly rise in that strong August sunshine.
01:28So turning into an increasingly humid and very hot day in the southeast of England in
01:33particular, where temperatures may well approach the mid-30s, but locally 30 to 32 across parts
01:39of the Midlands, eastern parts of Wales as well.
01:41And even across Northern Ireland, it will be a warm and quite humid picture as we go into
01:46Monday.
01:47But a different story across Scotland, where the rain is quite persistent, temperatures here
01:50will actually be below average for August.
01:53Otherwise though, these shades of orange and red really demonstrate how much higher than
01:57average the temperatures will be, possibly some 10 degrees above average in southern and
02:02eastern parts of England.
02:03So a hot and a humid evening to come.
02:05Potentially one or two isolated heavy showers or thunderstorms through the evening.
02:09I wouldn't take the graphics too literally.
02:12There's quite a bit of uncertainty in terms of where these showers may form, but I think it
02:15will still be northern and western parts of the UK, where we're more likely to see some
02:19rain through the early hours.
02:21So quite a wet end to the night, particularly across Scotland and perhaps parts of northern
02:24England.
02:25Notice how the winds start to strengthen as well, so some fairly windy conditions across
02:29the west of Scotland and through the Irish Sea by Tuesday morning.
02:32And a fairly humid and warm night to come for most, possibly actually a tropical night in
02:37some parts of the south, and that's where temperatures remain above 20 degrees Celsius.
02:42So for Tuesday, a fairly unsettled day across the north and the west.
02:45Some longer spells of rain for a time.
02:47The rain will probably be heaviest across northern parts of Scotland, and here it will
02:51probably persist well into the afternoon.
02:53Otherwise, a mixture of cloud, sunny intervals, and a chance of some scattered heavy showers.
02:58But by no means a guarantee where we really need the rain in the south and the east,
03:02where the ground is particularly dry and parched, where we're not likely to see
03:06very many, if any, in the way of showers.
03:09And it will still be pretty hot across the east of England, possibly temperatures up to
03:1230 degrees Celsius in parts of East Anglia.
03:15But generally speaking, temperatures are a little bit lower compared to on Monday.
03:18They still have a fairly humid feel wherever you are through Tuesday.
03:23So quite a lot going on over the next few days.
03:25There is the potential for some localised disruption from the intensity of that rain falling on the
03:30hard-baked ground.
