00:00:40all right so this is our weekly live stream I'm gonna keep it real simple here's what we do

00:00:46you ask me questions I answer them to the best of my ability if I don't know uh I tell

00:00:52know right but I try to help I try to be um just uh a good sounding board so you

00:00:59in the chat you can uh uh you can ask any questions in the chat doesn't even have to be

00:03:31that um I'm looking for questions can you do an end in project using R I do plan on doing

00:03:40that uh for

00:03:41sure but uh almost finished with the R series that'll be really good the next the last one which is

00:03:48next

00:03:48week is on data visualization and and data storytelling um so that'll be next one next week

00:04:06I'm gonna start the data analyst journey as a fresher this is from

00:04:09Baloo Smith uh 12

00:04:12Pali Shady uh I would take my data analyst boot camp it's free it's on YouTube I think learning

00:04:19SQL Excel Tableau like learning those core fundamental skills of how to work with databases

00:04:23and um you know Excel and visualizing data even just the basics great way to start it

00:04:29um great way to get started

00:04:33how can we learn SQL uh all right so SQL is like my specialty I have so many tutorials on

00:04:40SQL

00:04:40it is not even funny I have like 50 or 60 on every different part of SQL um for the

00:04:45most part

00:04:46I don't cover some of the way more advanced topics because there'd be very few people who would

00:04:51be interested in those um but I have a beginner intermediate and advanced series or playlist on

00:04:57my channel so go ahead and check those out I have in my SQL as well as my SQL uh

00:05:02SQL server

00:05:03Microsoft SQL server and so uh that definitely is where I would start

00:05:14all right let's see some questions by the way I'm not gonna answer every single question I just

00:05:19can't and my thing skips down all the time I hate that um so I can't answer every single question

00:05:26some questions I've answered like a thousand times or you know I can't answer every single one

00:05:30but I'll do my best how can we search for junior data analyst roles in the U.S. uh

00:05:39I think it's going to be pretty similar to kind of previous advice I've given I have a lesson or

00:05:48video on YouTube called how to get a job on LinkedIn and that basically is like a roadmap of how

00:05:56to reach

00:05:56out to recruiters how to apply to jobs directly instead of just clicking apply on LinkedIn quick

00:06:03apply or whatever it's called um same thing with just randomly applying on jobs on like LinkedIn

00:06:10and uh you know other job websites I think doing that is important you still have to do that then

00:06:18reaching out directly is really important as well and that's where uh I what I recommend doing so

00:06:23look at that video I think that'd be really helpful all right let's keep going

00:06:30it skips down sometimes I don't know how to solve that that's just a YouTube uh issue I wonder if

00:06:37I

00:06:37can stop that

00:06:41I don't know how to stop that that's above my pay grade all right let's keep keep going

00:06:53uh this is a good question so hey Alex I just finished acquiring data analysis as a skill

00:06:58but I have no internet internship experience yet what should I do next so let's say you're you know

00:07:04you've taken the data animals uh boot camp which is just free on YouTube you go through the whole

00:07:08thing you have all these skills now you know SQL and Excel and Python and R which isn't part of

00:07:14the

00:07:14boot camp yet but I'll add it um and you have all these skills and you're like okay but what's

00:07:18next

00:07:19what do I do next if you've already done that if you're or if you're sorry there's a hair

00:07:23floating in the thing if you've already done that and you're working through uh uh you're working

00:07:29through these skills that you should be applying already right you should be applying for internships

00:07:35if that's where you're at you should be applying for uh entry-level roles you should be trying to

00:07:40get experience any way you can because that's really really important for getting your next job

00:07:45or getting a higher paying job so I would be I would start working and part of the data analyst

00:07:51boot camp is creating a resume and creating a portfolio website and adding projects to that

00:07:56portfolio website so you should have already done that but starting to apply starting to reach out to

00:08:01people trying to make connections that's what I would be doing next I wouldn't wait to learn more

00:08:06skills you know you want now hands-on experience using those skills

00:08:14trick it's my birthday can I get a happy birthday why not come on happy birthday I love hey birthdays

00:08:21are

00:08:21a reason to celebrate another lap around the sun another uh another year to make choices and do

00:08:29whatever you want hopefully good choices that that make your life better

00:08:36is data analysis still worth it as a career path uh definitely so the data world right now is like

00:08:45on fire everyone's worried about everything about AI and layoffs and uh you know wages and all these

00:08:53things in my opinion this is kind of this has been building for a while and especially what happened

00:09:04in like the 2020 ever since the pandemic into like 2022 with massive overhiring and then the all the AI

00:09:11uh boom it's just been a really weird market since 2024 into 2025 and probably 2026 it's just been a

00:09:19really and with interest rates really high it's been a really weird market data itself is not going

00:09:24anywhere right so it's not like all of a sudden now data is not important data isn't useful to

00:09:31companies it's not a useful skill to know it's just that the job market and everything is like

00:09:36going crazy I still think that data as a whole data engineering data architecture data science data

00:09:42analysis project managers pro uh uh what what am i project managers program managers all these types

00:09:51of jobs in this data world are still going to be really really worthwhile in learning these skills

00:09:58and whatever you choose to learn data analysis is just one piece of that puzzle and it's 100% worth

00:10:05learning all of these skills are extremely useful to a lot of companies so yes it's still a great

00:10:11career path but of course with all the stuff in the economy happening right now uh it's just harder

00:10:17to get a job that's the honest truth of it um when is that going to subside I don't know

00:10:22uh I just

00:10:24don't I just don't but I hope it's sooner rather than later but it has a lot to do with

00:10:30interest rates

00:10:31with companies having capital to spend on hiring um the U.S. that's what my wife was literally texting

00:10:38me about this morning is that the you know the U.S. government plans on lowering interest rates

00:10:42it was going to make it easier for companies to take out loans to hire more people because most

00:10:47people most companies use debt to uh to pay their employees uh I can go on a I can make

00:10:55a whole video

00:10:56on that uh but it's pretty interesting what are some data analyst projects we should do as a fresher

00:11:03so if you're a beginner you're just starting out do some projects in SQL Excel Tableau get your feet

00:11:09wet with some simple ones I have so many projects on my channel just of simple projects but then go

00:11:16beyond that right do my guided project and then think of something that you want to do maybe it's

00:11:23some niche that you're really into maybe you're into anime or maybe you're into baseball or maybe

00:11:26you're into making pizza I don't know but there's data out there somewhere on something you're interested

00:11:32in I assure you so find that niche find something that you're interested in and get some data on it

00:11:37and then do something with it ask questions uh try to build uh you know some type of dashboard or

00:11:44visualization it doesn't matter what it is but try to build something because when you start building

00:11:48that's when you really start learning I am a big believer in that all right this is from Adleram

00:11:56Amara I don't know if I pronounced that right but I do my best uh how much Python do I

00:12:00need to know

00:12:01as a data analyst do I need to know the algorithms and data structures in my opinion uh data structures

00:12:09yes I think you need to know a little bit about data structures but not like an immense amount

00:12:13I think that I have a whole series on Python for beginners but then also pandas I would recommend

00:12:21learning pandas I just think that most people are going to use it most companies use it it's great

00:12:26for working with a medium amount of data if you want to work with big uh larger amounts of data

00:12:31you can look at polars and I'll do an entire series on polars in the future it's like pandas it's

00:12:36similar panda syntax but created for larger data sets and so I'm going to do a whole polar series in

00:12:43the future but I would look at those that that's kind of what I would just focus on there are

00:12:47so many

00:12:47other things I've used a ton of other things in my career but those are things that I had to

00:12:53learn

00:12:54because of you know certain use cases or you know I was trying to do it with pandas and it

00:12:59just wasn't

00:13:00working right so then I you know did some research online and found this other tool that I could use

00:13:04within python and so you know learn the learn the core skills of python and pandas first and then as

00:13:10you get into projects you'll see the limitations and you'll find other tools that can help

00:13:16uh do you think a do you think al I'm guessing you meant ai like chat gpt will make learning

00:13:22python

00:13:22and power bi are relevant no um you know there have been automations and stuff like that already

00:13:31around even in uh tools like you know bi tools for business intelligence for data visualization there

00:13:38have already been things that can automatically create dashboards and reports and things like that

00:13:42um ai takes it up a little bit of a notch but again some of the thing one of the

00:13:51most important

00:13:51things when you're creating visualizations is not creating a visualization it's creating impact

00:13:57something that people can use and that's something that people have always struggled with always I

00:14:03mean it's a common joke in the data world that people will build dashboards and no one will look at

00:14:08it it's because it doesn't really drive impact doesn't drive usefulness um and so I would say

00:14:14that just because something can be created easy or easier doesn't mean that now that skill is

00:14:20irrelevant knowing how to do it knowing how to you know really use it well and the more advanced

00:14:27things are not going to be things that I would say any ai system is going to be amazing at

00:14:32uh at least

00:14:33not yet so you know if you try to use copilots in excel for example it's very limited doesn't do

00:14:39a

00:14:39great job uh power bi you know uh tableau their ai systems are okay for right now but they're not

00:14:47life-changing and so you still need to know them yes we're going to get data to practice excel all

00:14:52right I talk about this every live stream I'm going to give you some two or three that I really

00:14:57like

00:14:57but I have a whole video on that on best places to get uh data one of the best ones

00:15:02to go to if

00:15:03you're looking for very simple easy to work with beginner level data is Kaggle so Kaggle.com if you

00:15:10want messy data sets that are a little bit more advanced then I would go to data.gov uh the

00:15:16government

00:15:16makes some great messy data um and then if you aren't really sure where to look there's something

00:15:21called google data set search so it's not google it's called google data set search it's a separate

00:15:26place within google and then you can search for topics like say health care or uh you know sports

00:15:33data or whatever it is and they will give you tons of different links to places where you can find

00:15:38that

00:15:38data that's where I would go give me one sec I'm gonna drink some water while I read more questions

00:15:50oh geez it skipped down sorry guys it skipped down I was about to read like some questions

00:15:58uh power bi or tableau okay so when you're first learning I think tableau is easier to learn I think

00:16:07it's an easier intro tool to learn I think that power bi has a lot more depth into it especially

00:16:12with just the core functionality and a lot more a lot of easier to do the data modeling and automation

00:16:18I think power bi as a tool is better so back when I was a manager we were when I

00:16:25came in all we use is

00:16:27like this internal tool within uh service now which is a Microsoft product and the data visualization

00:16:35was so limited I switched our whole team over to power bi um and then into Azure as well so

00:16:41into

00:16:41more into the Microsoft ecosystem but with more functionality power bi can do so much uh I do

00:16:47recommend power bi just as a whole and uh tableau is great for learning the basics though sorry I got

00:17:08databricks at work what are your thoughts on databricks how to approach this subject I love databricks

00:17:12I used it for maybe three years um at one of my in my old job databricks is great I

00:17:19used a lot of

00:17:19high spark in uh databricks um databricks is primarily used for large data so I'm I'm assuming

00:17:29you're working at a place with a lot of data because if not databricks is going to be overkill

00:17:33like just complete overkill you don't need databricks uh but databricks is also really good for working

00:17:39with non or unstructured data um because it's really good with working with formats like json xml etc

00:17:48excuse me so um yeah databricks is great how do you approach learning databricks get into databricks

00:17:57um I have maybe it's one video I can't remember don't quote me on this I can't remember if the

00:18:04databricks video is on youtube or if it's in my course on analyst builder but I do a whole lesson

00:18:10on databricks about how to set up your cluster how to query it how to use it I I can't

00:18:16I don't

00:18:16know if I did it you'd have to look I can't remember I just I have too many videos I

00:18:20can't

00:18:20remember where I put it but um do that also just look up online how to use databricks you can

00:18:26set up

00:18:27a free uh a free system within um within databricks just to get going and try it out and play

00:18:34around

00:18:35with it so you can learn you know a good amount of like the basics for free evan simmons said

00:18:56data analytics can you please guide me um that's I'm not a medical student but my background is

00:19:01health care uh if you really like health care but maybe you don't want to do the hands-on

00:19:06patient side of things learn data uh learn databases and learn specifically things like coding systems

00:19:15so you know icpt code or sorry cpt codes icd codes hixpix codes um learn the coding systems learn how

00:19:24health care as a whole works with claims data uh with insurance with uh medical providers with mips

00:19:31uh learn these things because your medical background can be really useful

00:19:41you don't know the answer to this I'm gonna I'm gonna ask this and I if anyone knows let me

00:19:45know

00:19:46richard uh tomlinson what's the hottest ai analyst tool for self-service analytics right now

00:19:51self-service analytics has always been a hot topic always been a hot topic in fact back when I was

00:19:58a

00:19:59data analyst and then a manager both of my teams were trying to do something called self-service

00:20:03analytics I've made many posts on LinkedIn about how I don't think self-service analytics is a good

00:20:08thing and or feasible um the issue with it and this is from just my experience is that people don't

00:20:19know what they want and then when if they do know what they want the data available to them usually

00:20:25isn't the data that they need and so then getting that data in making sure it's cleaned up creating

00:20:30the automations for it creating the dashboards for it is not self-service they can't do that

00:20:35themselves 95 of people in the business world can't do any of those things and so self-service

00:20:41analytics as a whole isn't really a it's like a it's an idyllic concept where people can just do

00:20:50it themselves but most business people don't know how to work with data they don't understand data

00:20:54um they don't understand even like how data types work and why data isn't looking correctly in a

00:21:01visualization like even those things like they just don't get it and so I don't really think I don't

00:21:07know I haven't been keeping up with AI analyst self-service analytics tools um I haven't I I but

00:21:14if anyone knows of any let me know and I'll look into it I'll do a little google search on

00:21:18it

00:21:24sunny singe is data analyst dead no there's hundreds of just in the u.s there are hundreds of thousands

00:21:30of

00:21:32jobs I don't I mean open right now but like just hiring and there's still a lot of people in

00:21:37the

00:21:37data world hiring there's just a lot of people who are trying to get into data analysis but data

00:21:42analysis as a whole is not dead there's so many jobs there's so many people working as data analysts

00:21:47I talk to them all the time there's so many people um who are hiring so many companies that are

00:21:52still

00:21:52hiring data analysts data data analysis as a whole is still very much needed and is still a growing um

00:21:59um a growing job field and that's a good thing there's just a lot of people who want to do

00:22:05it

00:22:05and so it's competitive and also the market isn't uh the best market is not the best

00:22:13hello oh this is from tchr I'm guessing teacher because later on he says teacher hello Alex good

00:22:18day I'm a physics teacher by profession but I want to change my career move into the field of data

00:22:22analytics through self-study what's your advice um that's awesome I love teachers um I've worked with a

00:22:29lot of teachers I've mentored many teachers as well um one-on-one and just you know to kind of

00:22:37take a step back you know when you've been into a career for a while do you want to utilize

00:22:42that

00:22:43area of expertise right you don't just want to switch over because then you have like 10 years

00:22:48as a teacher and then you're trying to switch into data analysis and most people are gonna be like

00:22:51that isn't useful so my number one advice would be to find somewhere whether it's your physics

00:22:58background whether it's your teaching background find companies that value that experience and

00:23:02target those companies so that's going to be a really big thing to do reach out to people in

00:23:07that field um just asking questions hey if you know you had my background how would you get into

00:23:12this job so reaching out and connecting with people is going to be really helpful the second

00:23:16thing is just learning the skills um and so learning how to use the tools I have a full free

00:23:21data

00:23:22analyst boot camp completely free just on YouTube just go take that that gets you you know really

00:23:27started in a good place for learning the skills that's my two biggest pieces of advice

00:23:47really can't um i could get the microphone slightly closer but you just got to turn up the the volume

00:23:52your computer how much sql is enough to get started with data analysis all right so this is these are

00:24:00two separate things one is how much do i need just to like be competent enough to get through maybe

00:24:05an

00:24:05interview and then how much is like do you use in the actual job how much do you need to

00:24:10know

00:24:12excuse me so just to get through interviews just to you know be knowledgeable be able to build a

00:24:18small project you need to know select from where group by order by the basics then you really need

00:24:26to know joins well i i can't tell you how many times in interviews i have failed when people ask

00:24:33me about joins joins are a little bit complicated until you use them and then um i would highly

00:24:39recommend learning window functions once you know those things and you know them well and i have videos

00:24:45on all of them once you know those things well you're good enough to like get through interviews

00:24:49build basic projects things like that then once you start getting job ready you're going to use all

00:24:54those things but then on top of that i would really recommend learning things like indexing learning

00:25:01things like um you know query optimization learning things like um how do you store procedures how to

00:25:09create triggers these are things that you will really impress and improve your career a lot and

00:25:15so i do recommend doing those things um but start out with the basics uh bester jnr python or r

00:25:25python

00:25:25i like r i have nothing against r i always joke about not liking r it's just because i love

00:25:31python

00:25:31so much you can do so many things uh it's like limitless what you can do with python

00:25:38so i would highly recommend learning python um if your company uses r learn r or if you want to

00:25:44be

00:25:45have just a bigger knowledge base then learn both that's what i would say alex how to explain our

00:25:53portfolio projects i don't know this is from an anas fazil that's a good question because maybe

00:25:59you've gone through my data analyst boot camp and you're like hey i built these projects but i don't

00:26:03know how to explain them so what you can do and this is like a really simple exercise but i

00:26:10used to

00:26:10do this with my wife um i used to do like mock interviews in front of the mirror or with

00:26:17my wife

00:26:17and she would ask me questions and excuse me what you can do is just pretend you're in an interview

00:26:25and they say so tell us what you know about sql and see how you respond okay i personally am

00:26:35not

00:26:35going to say well i've taken some courses on sql or i know aggregate functions and joins in sql what

00:26:42i'm going to say is i love sql sql is just amazing tool for database management i've built many projects

00:26:48in sql here's some of the projects that i built so then you can say i built this project that

00:26:55basically cleans the data moves the data into a database i analyze the data using these types of

00:27:00queries you need aggregations and using these things and then what i did after that is then i

00:27:05pulled i i created a you know a connection with a bi tool and i created a dashboard off of

00:27:10that

00:27:10so that when the data updates in sql it updates in the tool that goes way above and beyond what

00:27:15they're hoping for it makes you look really good so just talking about the projects you can talk a

00:27:20little bit about maybe what it was um how you did it um and just make some highlights um and

00:27:27this is

00:27:27just a really shameless plug but you can practice that question on analyst builder.com we have general

00:27:33questions and one of the questions is literally tell me what you know about sql or you know and then

00:27:39you

00:27:39can answer it and depending on how you answer it you'll get graded on it so that is another way

00:27:43to

00:27:43practice and talk about portfolio projects um as well as a beginner do i recommend sql guys sql is like

00:27:53the bread and butter of data professionals it just is you have to know sql i 100 recommend it

00:28:04oh this is a good question trick asked databricks or snowflake um

00:28:12i personally would start with databricks and i say start with databricks i think learning snowflake

00:28:18is good but um again they're both similar they're both competitors they're both in the similar space

00:28:26um snowflake to me is a slightly more niche thing it's slightly more niche tool so that's why i would

00:28:34say databricks i think more companies use it uh in my opinion i would have to look at the data

00:28:40on that

00:28:40that's just from like my experience i think databricks is more widely known or used and stuff

00:28:45like that's my assumption

00:28:50let me look

00:28:56this is just from philippe uh louise philippe

00:29:01uh senegas i butchered that i've completed the corsair and data camp data analyst courses but i

00:29:06honestly think i learned more from your videos thanks alex that is 100 i've heard that so many

00:29:11times now here's the truth and i i am not trying to dog data camp or corsair but one of

00:29:18the things

00:29:18that i struggled with a lot when i was first starting data analysis eight years or so ago is that

00:29:27the instructors and the people online weren't the best in the world and it cost money and i was

00:29:33very broke at the time like i had no money to spend so i bought i would wait for like

00:29:38big deals

00:29:39on udemy to get courses for like eight bucks because i couldn't afford them even when they

00:29:42were like 25 there was too expensive and so my videos i think if you really go through them and

00:29:49you go through and and like search for skills you're looking to learn and i've taught them

00:29:53they're going to teach you even more in some cases than paid courses and so i want to i've tried

00:30:01to

00:30:02create kind of this all-in-one place to learn data analysis and kind of you know make it easier

00:30:09for

00:30:09people to learn all around the world that's really been my goal and just give back to the community

00:30:13and so i'm glad to hear that i really am that makes me happy that's been my goal

00:33:26that um there are some good projects on data camp that i took many years ago that i liked um

00:33:34i want to say um for python there were um his name's chuck he's on youtube as well as coursera

00:33:42he has good python courses it's not geared necessarily towards data analysis but they are some of the best

00:33:49python courses that you'll find out there his name's chuck just type chuck python on youtube uh on google

00:34:16sql and excel and you love python do it um there are companies out there believe it or not that

00:34:22a lot of python and that's great but in using python you'll realize you really need to learn sql and

00:34:29too that's why i recommend starting with those because python can't do everything perfectly well

00:34:37so but yeah go ahead start with it if you like it oh it skipped down sorry guys sorry sorry

00:35:01music max is doing masters in business analytics worth it considering the fact that

00:35:06previous qualifications was in non-data field um so it a master's degree in analytics is not a bad

00:35:15thing right if you get it it will not hurt your chances of in fact it will definitely increase

00:35:20your chances of getting a job but you have to think about the time the cost the uh opportunities

00:35:27lost in those year two years for that program is it worth it for you it may be worth it

00:35:33for other

00:35:33people it might not be worth it for example if you have the money and you're not working right now

00:35:37and you have the time then yeah do it why not it doesn't hurt that does not hurt to get

00:35:43a master's

00:35:43degree uh but if you could get a job in that time and have a job for two years instead

00:35:49of a master's

00:35:49degree for two years a job will be way more worth it 100 i used to think i needed to

00:35:54go back and get

00:35:55a master's degree but i just realized as i got farther along in my career i was like

00:35:59i don't think i do i don't i think people just care about what i know um they don't maybe

00:36:04on

00:36:04paper on a resume it'll look better if i had a master's degree but um i was like people just

00:36:10want

00:36:10people who can do the work well um and that's what they care about and so if you have the

00:36:15time

00:36:15and money yeah then yeah go for it it does not hurt let's keep looking see now i went too

00:36:28om mishra how do i stay consistent please share some tips so this is something that a lot of people

00:36:34struggle with um i think that consistency is has a lot of factors to it right maybe you have a

00:36:44family

00:36:44you have a full-time job you have little kids it's gonna be hard to stay consistent uh just

00:36:50because you have so many things in your life but if if it's not that if it's you know you're

00:36:55just

00:36:56getting distracted a lot you're not staying super motivated um that to me is you know a totally

00:37:02different thing so if you're just really busy then you know finding time might just be hey at the end

00:37:08of the night instead of watching netflix then i'm gonna do some studying but if it's a motivation

00:37:13thing then you know really digging down and figuring out why you want to do it figuring out

00:37:19that motivation behind it and then setting you know steps in place to have that discipline maybe

00:37:25that's the first thing you do in the morning instead of other things uh just to kind of start

00:37:30your day off right but you know there um there are a lot of videos and stuff that you can

00:37:36do to help

00:37:37stay consistent but i haven't made those videos but um you know i would look into those

00:37:44mystery said this is amazing thank you you're great hey i'm glad it's helpful that's why i do this

00:37:48so i started doing this about a month and a half ago um because i was having so many people

00:37:54ask

00:37:54questions on email and linkedin and instagram and x i just couldn't it's so hard to keep up with all

00:38:00it so i started doing a weekly uh live stream just to answer people's questions and to spend some time

00:38:05with you guys um so i'm really glad to hear it's helpful all right this is an interesting one well

00:38:12done sir i've been watching your mysql tutorials and i see it being used for data cleaning and analyzing

00:38:17which can be done in excel or power bi what makes sql different that's a great question

00:38:24all right so think about it like in i'll i'll say simple terms but think about it in a really

00:38:31simple

00:38:32way so there are limitations on how much data can be stored in excel you once you get past like

00:38:40a

00:38:40million three hundred thousand rows or a certain amount of of memory can't store it anymore that's

00:38:47a problem power bi can only handle so much data uh being fed into it at a time that's a

00:38:56problem

00:38:57sql can store just about as much data as you need so on a small scale you can do as

00:39:03much data analysis

00:39:04as you want in excel and that would be perfectly fine for some companies as you get bigger excel

00:39:10starts becoming too small and so you can either break it out into a bunch of excels and do repetitive

00:39:19work or you can put it all in sql which was designed and optimized to store structured data

00:39:23really efficiently that is what sql is for so it's structured query language it's a sql database

00:39:31it's meant for structured data and so you can store a hundred times more data that's just a random

00:39:37number but let's say a thousand times more data that's what sql is for um sql is also really great

00:39:43for creating automated systems at scale so even you know in the cloud when you're working with

00:39:50millions or billions of rows people are still going to use some version of a sql database

00:39:54so it's not just about usability it's also about fundamental skills that are transferable even into

00:40:00the cloud because sql just working with structured data and then of course eventually working with

00:40:05unstructured data is a very big skill very big skill

00:40:12anas fazil my resume is not getting shortlisted for data analyst roles is it because i'm pursuing

00:40:17my masters 2024 to 2026 and companies don't want to hire me since they would have to give me leaves

00:40:24um i don't know that could play a part i know if back when i was a hiring manager if

00:40:30i saw someone who's

00:40:31in the middle of a master's program um i would ask them about it if they got into an interview

00:40:35i would say really make sure your resume is good i have a few videos on um youtube about optimizing

00:40:42your resume as well as your like linkedin profile for getting interviews but if you're not getting

00:40:47interviews you're probably not getting past that first level those ats systems where they're

00:40:53automatically looking at them seeing if they're fit for certain positions you're most likely not

00:40:57getting those if you're getting into interviews then you're failing them that's a totally different

00:41:00issue but um it might be but it's hard to say every company is very different

00:42:01they're big because they're very capable of doing a lot of what you need all the a lot of the

00:42:08tools out there and i've used a lot of tool bi tools are kind of like use case by use

00:42:13case um do

00:42:15you need something that you can uh embed into a web into like your website do you need something that

00:42:22people anyone will be able to get access to and they can all log in and look at their own

00:42:26analysis

00:42:26um then that's a totally different tool and so it's hard for me to say i i don't even i

00:42:33don't

00:42:33want to give an answer because i feel like it's just going to be really dependent on the use case

00:42:39so if you give me a use case if you say what about for this use case then i could

00:42:43give you an answer

00:42:44um i've used unfortunately too many bi tools but again power bi and tableau are staples for a reason

00:42:50is they're for for certain companies are decently priced um tableau gets expensive power bi does

00:42:58get expensive but it's cheaper um anyways not a not important line of thought to go down um i was

00:43:07about to just go on a tangent all right barnabas toth hi alex what do you think about changing roles

00:43:15from data analyst to engineer go for it what would you recommend for that um i myself thought about

00:43:21that many years ago uh i think data engineering is fantastic i love data engineering i also love data

00:43:25architecture i've been getting really into that kind of stuff because i feel like i've capped out in

00:43:31certain areas of data analysis then my skills are now spreading um into other areas for data

00:43:37engineering i would personally start with just building basic pipelines don't get anything fancy

00:43:45uh seattle data guy has some great data engineering content on building uh stuff like that as well as

00:43:50um oh gosh why am i blanking on his name

00:43:58uh

00:44:02i can't i'm totally blanking out i see him in my head i i just can't think of his name

00:44:07but data there's data engineering uh content out there where you can build basic data pipelines

00:44:12i would recommend doing that build the data pipelines in sql um into power bi from the cloud

00:44:18into sql from sql into the cloud build these pipelines and then um you know that's like the

00:44:24very basics building data pipelines that's that's the very basics in my opinion so start with that

00:44:30though

00:44:38this is a good question i'll answer it but i i do have some caveats to it this is from

00:44:42micah are there any free courses that can teach data analysis because the whole paying thing works

00:44:48when you have the money and right now we want to learn so we get employed um sorry i have

00:45:01about is where you either you pay through uh over time or you pay after you get the job um

00:45:09ones out there like that now i used to partner with one called career foundry um career foundry

00:45:17many years ago when i was partnering with them like two years ago their mentors were all people

00:45:22in person they get graded feedback that was not ai generated and i had a lot of good feedback from

00:45:28it

00:45:28um recently uh they've been getting feedback that a lot of it's just ai generated they meet with

00:45:34their mentor like once a week or once a month instead of once a week and it's not as helpful

00:45:38and they don't really do the help job placement thing afterwards it's just a mess and so i don't

00:45:43really recommend any of those programs right now there's none that i but you can look into career

00:45:47foundry that was one that i used to partner with but i don't really they've changed their systems

00:45:52have changed with ai they're trying to implement all these things um

00:47:52there isn't really just one that fits all when i was living out in dallas and that's where i got

00:47:56most of my like in-person jobs um the recruiters that i was working with lived in dallas they were

00:48:02local to that area um and so a recruiter that i would recommend to you wouldn't be most likely

00:48:08helpful what you need to do is you need to reach out to recruiters yourself so maybe uh you know

00:48:14where somewhere where you live some metropolitan area where you live hires a lot of people in the

00:48:18data world or maybe it's in the u.s or it's where you know wherever you're wanting to move i

00:48:23would

00:48:23reach out to people who are in that area let's say you wanted to move out to dallas well then

00:48:28i would

00:48:29have a recruiter to recommend you to because uh you know i know recruiters in that area but uh you

00:48:36know you can also reach out to recruiters at companies i have a whole video of how to land a

00:48:40job

00:48:41through linkedin that's on my youtube uh channel and that teaches you and shows you exactly how to find

00:48:47recruiters and reach out to them that's what i would do that is how i'd find them

00:52:57sat beside the guy at my previous job who worked on all of our natural language processing stuff and

00:53:02so i got to learn a ton from him um it was really cool um and a lot of it

00:53:07is involved with some

00:53:10machine learning but there are tools out there that help with natural language processing

00:53:14with ai help natural language processing uh has been integrated with some as ai stuff but it's still

00:53:19a lot of machine learning um what do you think of this step uh it depends on what you know

00:53:25right so if you're specializing in natural language processing you have some tools some

00:53:29technical expertise under your belt i definitely would continue learning all these tools that i've been

00:53:36talking about sql excel um python r you know aws azure these tools are going to be very very helpful

00:53:43but uh natural language processing is a an entire field of itself and so if you know companies that

00:53:52would value that in their analysis to do data quality and and all these things then um you know you

00:53:58can

00:53:58definitely transition there's there's lots of opportunity there especially since that's a pretty technical role

00:54:11saeed ali i'm doing a master's in germany i don't have any experience in data analytics i finished

00:54:16your data analyst boot camp and completed projects what do you suggest i make a cv in order to secure

00:54:21how can i make a cv in order to secure an internship so making a resume and uh i guess

00:54:28a cover letter if

00:54:29you want it if you want to do that is really important uh the resume is probably one of your

00:54:33most

00:54:34important things as well as making something like a linkedin profile i highly recommend doing that

00:54:37but i have lots of videos on how to make resumes if you go on analystbuilder.com and go to

00:54:44resources there are free templates for resumes both beginner and advanced um and so i would recommend

00:54:51using those templates and then filling in your information put your projects on there um you know put

00:54:57your information degrees and skills and everything in there that's what i would do

00:55:09a hard line means i don't know what that means but um i may do an advanced course in the

00:55:14future

00:56:25what do i think about ai agents replacing entry-level data analysts um i think that we just have to

00:56:32see

00:56:32where things go right ai agents right now can do some really cool stuff but um replacing a full-on

00:56:40data analyst as of right now is is just not happening um they're trying but it's just not

00:56:47it's not happening for any so like even data engineers data scientists data analysts data

00:56:52architecture these types of jobs that's what they're trying to do and they're trying to create

00:56:57these things and what they keep doing is when they keep creating them and i keep up to date as

00:57:01much as

00:57:02i possibly can on this stuff it's some areas it's useful and then other areas it's completely failing

00:57:10horribly and it's not useful at all and so um maybe in like 10 15 years or maybe if things

00:57:16progress

00:57:17crazy fast but i just the need for a human to be able to communicate and talk and and use

00:57:26these ai

00:57:26systems and and talk to other clients and stakeholders and all these things and understand

00:57:32all the nuances of the data that they're working with and what the customer really wants and yada yada

00:57:36these are things that are really going to be difficult i mean on a computer though agents can

00:57:41do certain things but no i don't think um any there's not going to be a uh substantial replacement

00:57:50of these rules um in my opinion right now they're trying and and here's what's here's genuinely what's

00:57:58happening in the market right now is uh people are getting let go people are getting let off mostly

00:58:04for economic reasons this whole ai is replacing all the jobs thing is in the data world specifically

00:58:12is not really happening um because when people are laying off their data teams for these ai agents

00:58:19and ai stuff they're hiring them back like almost immediately and we see that a lot like if you just

00:58:23type in people rehiring data people it happens a lot because they're trying to replace them they think

00:58:29it'll replace them they end up losing a ton of money because there's it's just too difficult for ai

00:58:34systems right now to do well at all um and then it just yeah just happens just happens so no

00:58:41i'm

00:58:41not super concerned about it is posting daily or frequently about learning helpful on linkedin

00:58:52uh i'm gonna say cookie uh that's the name of the person it's just an interesting name but is uh

00:58:58you don't have to do it but if you like to do it then i would recommend you do it

00:59:02you can build a

00:59:04little bit of a brand maybe a tiny audience um but you never know what happens is gonna happen when
