00:05Our correspondent Belén de los Santos brings us the inspiring story of a displaced teacher in La Guayra,
00:10who turned a temporary shelter into a beacon of learning for affected children.
00:15Let's take a look.
00:17Hello, studios. I'm coming to you from La Guayra, particularly from Katia Lamar.
00:22We are just meters away from the Cesar Nieves Stadium.
00:26And right here, from the heart of one of the transitory camps that were set up,
00:32actually from the people that are staying here and were affected by the twin earthquakes,
00:37came this revolutionary idea of starting a new school.
00:42And this is the Yurimar School that is being held here.
00:47It's a project that is developing, that is part of the life of camp right now.
00:53And we are talking to the people we are showing and really getting to know what the life of this
01:01project is.
01:02So if you come with me, this project was started by a teacher,
01:06a teacher that's one of the affected people staying in this camp.
01:11And late one night, she got this idea that she needed to continue teaching,
01:18that that is what she knew what to do.
01:20She saw all these kids in the camp that needed to continue their studies,
01:26needed to continue a little bit, a piece of their normal life
01:29that was so much affected by the earthquakes.
01:33And she decided to take to social media and ask for one thing.
01:37She asked for a book with which she would teach others how to read.
01:43And that request, it expanded over social media and it got to so many people.
01:49It actually got across to other countries and she started receiving donations
01:54and slowly, day by day, she set up this school that, as you can see, it's being set up.
02:00Today it's Saturday, so we have different recreational activities underway.
02:05But the main tent is one of the donations, international donations,
02:11that arrived here in Venezuela.
02:15You see that is Uremare that is at this moment at an important meeting.
02:19It's Saturday, but she is talking to the other volunteers, teachers that have come from La Guaira,
02:26from Caracas, that heard about the project and volunteered their time.
02:30They organized the week so that different teachers would come on different days
02:35and the school is already working.
02:37Of course, not today because it's not a school day, but from Monday to Friday,
02:42they're giving lessons, they're giving back that structure and the education
02:46that, of course, these kids, these little kids need.
02:50And that is what is happening right now.
02:52This is the project of Uremare, the teacher who started a new school
02:57right here in the transitory camp.
