SHARK ATTACKS FISHERMAN DURING TERRIFYING DIVE ENCOUNTER

WITH VID

BY LAKSHYARTHA SHARMA

Watch this terrifying clip where a man is suddenly attacked by a grey reef shark after noticing the predator behaving increasingly aggressively beneath the surface.

Henry Gibbs, from New Zealand, recorded the shocking encounter in tropical waters after spending around two hours diving along a reef before heading into deeper blue water in search of larger fish.

According to Henry, several grey reef sharks had been circling the area, but one remained close to the group for longer than the others. As the dive continued, the shark's behaviour noticeably changed, making tight circles beneath the divers, becoming increasingly agitated and even charging towards the boat.

Realising something was wrong, Henry can be heard reacting moments before the shark suddenly lunges.

The predator rapidly swims at Henry, bites the back of his calf and begins a 'death roll' before the terrifying attack comes to an end.

Henry believes the disturbance from the boat, the sounds and the activity in the water may have contributed to the shark becoming more interested, though he says he will never know exactly what triggered the attack.

Despite suffering serious injuries, Henry survived and is now using his experience to educate fellow divers about recognising changes in shark behaviour, carrying trauma equipment and diving with trusted companions.

One user commented: "That is insane mate. It happened so quickly. Best of luck with the recovery."

Another user added: "Glad you’re okay! Wishing you a smooth recovery and many more adventures ahead. Stay strong, mate!"
