UEFA's 55 member associations have voted to boycott FIFA competitions if they sell stakes in the World Cup
Transcript
00:00Well, we have world champions who are from UEFA. Three of the four finalists were from UEFA. The richest clubs
00:10in the world. If you take a look at the Deloitte Money League, the 30 richest clubs in the world,
00:18again, are UEFA clubs.
00:19So UEFA already has the majority of the power. They, of course, have the Champions League. They have the European
00:26Championships. So they are seen as the rich entity in world football. If they boycotted, where would this leave FIFA
00:35in terms of a World Cup?
00:36The broadcasting rights would certainly decrease in value. The commercial value of the tournament would fall as well. We saw
00:45that Seferin did not attend the World Cup final. I think that was as a protest of the political interference
00:52within the tournament.
00:54So clearly there's hostilities between FIFA and UEFA at present. That is the ultimate sanction that UEFA have.
