00:26What's it going to take for you to realize he's not real?
00:29Something happened, something that I can't explain
00:32I need you to see that what I'm saying is real, it's true, and I'm desperate
00:38I remember, I remember everything
00:47It puts her in an existential crisis, because who am I? Why am I here?
00:53It's something we all talk about, and that's what's really sort of dynamic about the film
00:56Is that you're watching her and she's just like, I'm not supposed to be here
01:01But what is here? You know, there's really neat discussions with this
01:05Yeah, honestly, Tim, that is like precisely what intrigued me the most about the script upon reading it
01:10Was the challenge of, yeah, like the switching back and forth, of course
01:15Of portraying like Jane's plight versus Diana's
01:18But like I think, like I said before, something that like frightened me so much as like a person in
01:25my life
01:26Is the thought of like something like that happening
01:28How would I handle it?
01:31And I think those like moments where, you know, she gets those little peaks of her old
01:36Or whatever she presumes to be her old life or a life that she thinks that she has
01:43I don't know, like just terrified me
01:46Like it's so heartbreaking
01:48And yeah, it's, I think
01:52Jane's reaction sometimes is very
01:56Shut down or numb
01:58And then that makes the moments where we do have those
02:02Heartbreaking scenes of rage
02:04That much more impactful
02:06Because, you know, I feel like with a script like this or an idea like this
02:10It's so easy to access the rage
02:12Because it's, it's a, it's a scary thing that we think about as humans of like
02:16You know, if this would happen, I feel like I would be very enraged
02:18I'd be, I'd feel very gaslit
02:20I'd feel very nervous
02:21But that, that's the easy thing to play
02:24Whereas like, you know, like this
02:29You know, her, her
02:31She's not going to get mad at this lovely person who's her brother
02:34Even though she doesn't believe he's her brother
02:36He's very kind
02:37He's very welcoming
02:38He's very empathetic
02:40And so like, it's like
02:41I can sense that
02:44And I'm not going to be like an asshole to him
02:46Because even though I don't know him
02:48Like I'm, I'm, I don't know
02:50Yeah, it's a, it's, it's so wildly intriguing
02:53And it's, it is so fun to talk about this too
02:56After the fact
02:56Like, because it's been like
02:57What, two years since we wrapped?
02:59Yeah, so, so
03:00Yeah, and just piggybacking off of what you said, Amelia
03:03You know, I think, you know, you were saying
03:04That, you know, you kept imagining yourself
03:07Being in this position, right?
03:08And I think that's the other really interesting
03:10And just great, really compelling thing about this premise
03:12And why I think
03:14And I hope audiences will really like it
03:15Is because it's completely relatable
03:17In the sense that, you know
03:18I think most people have probably
03:20You know, put themselves in, in the hypothetical situation
03:24At least of, you know
03:24Well, what would I do if, if, you know
03:28I knew something was absolutely right
03:30But everyone else was saying it wasn't, you know
03:32It's, it's, it's a very relatable premise, I think
03:41What were you thinking?
03:47You told me you wouldn't try to do that shit again
03:49You promised me
03:50I wasn't trying to do anything
03:51Do I have to have you f***ing committed?
03:53I wasn't going to hurt myself
03:54Dude, what were you trying to do?
03:55I don't know
04:01I don't know
04:07When you came to visit me in the hospital
04:09You asked me to get better
04:14And I looked at you and I could see
04:17Total desperation
04:22And I did it
04:25I did it
04:26The modulation of tone
04:28Because obviously, as you said
04:29You know, you guys shot
04:30And then you probably
04:31You know, in order to build this
04:33It's a very, very unique sort of editing structure
04:36Because you have to figure out
04:38Where to place in the certain flashbacks
04:41Without intruding on present time
04:42But reflecting it
04:44And the way you start the film
04:45Really sort of plays with that idea
04:48Could you talk about modulating tone?
04:51You know, I think in terms of the way we shot it
04:54You know, the mood of the film
04:55Versus kind of the mood of the set
04:57Or, you know, for instance
04:58If that's kind of a little bit of what you're getting at
05:00Yeah, the mystery
05:01The mystery, if you will
05:02Yeah, you know
05:03I think one of the things we really tried to do
05:06Kind of throughout the shooting process
05:07Is just have a very light tone
05:10You know, we
05:11Obviously when you say, you know
05:14Light, sound, action
05:15You know, then the tone shifts a little bit
05:17Right, you know
05:17But really the tone of the set throughout
05:21Was very kind of light
05:22And, you know, it was a very small crew
05:24I think on any given day
05:25We had maybe six crew members
05:28And, you know, it was very intimate and small
05:30And we all grew kind of very close
05:31And it was just a lot of fun
05:33And, you know, you mentioned the editing
05:34And, I mean, the editing probably
05:36Was the funnest part for me
05:38Of the entire film
05:40Well, meeting people was the funnest part
05:42But in terms of the components
05:43Kind of that I was involved with
05:45You know, I did the directing
05:46And the writing
05:47And, you know, the co-editing
05:48And then, you know
05:49And the music
05:49And the music
05:50Yes, yes
05:51But anyway, you know
05:53The editing in particular
05:54I loved doing
05:55Just because
05:55It's so fun
05:57How, you know
05:57Someone can have
05:58You know, one editor
06:00Can take a whole bunch of shots
06:01That were filmed for the movie
06:02And, you know
06:04Another editor can have
06:05All those same shots
06:06And they can put it together
06:07In an entirely different way
06:08And you can have
06:09An entirely different movie
06:10You know
06:10So the editing was
06:11Absolutely the funnest part for me
06:16But now I need you to look in my eyes
06:19I need you to see
06:20That what I'm saying
06:21Is real
06:24It's true
06:26And I'm f***ing desperate
06:29I need to find him
06:30Jesus Christ, Jane
06:33What's it gonna take, huh?
06:35What's it gonna take
06:36For you to realize
06:37He's not real
06:38My own brother
06:39My own f***ing brother
06:40Doesn't believe
06:40Because you sound crazy
06:43Jesus Christ
06:44You know
06:45Before the accident
06:46It's not like I didn't see you
06:47For ten years
06:47And we were strangers
06:48Or some s***
06:49I saw you
06:50Every week
06:51Every other day
06:54You didn't have a kid
06:56Wake up, Jane
07:05In her mind's eye
07:06When you read a script
07:07And how something plays out
07:09And how
07:10You wanna play it on set
07:11Because the thing is
07:12You have to sort of
07:13Give yourself into that process
07:15You have to
07:16And the fact that it was
07:17An intimate set
07:17Probably helped
07:19But you also had a compressed
07:20Shooting schedule
07:21Which sometimes does help
07:23Could you talk about
07:24You know
07:25Dropping in
07:26On that
07:27And now
07:28Two years later
07:29Have you seen it?
07:30Have you seen the
07:31No, I'm so excited
07:32I have
07:33Interesting
07:33Loved ones who have seen it
07:34But this will be my first time
07:36Seeing it
07:36See, that's
07:37That's the interesting thing
07:38Is the anticipation
07:39The expectation
07:40Of knowing the story
07:42But then seeing
07:43How it's reflected
07:44Can you talk about
07:45Sort of the
07:45Elation of that
07:47Maybe the fear of that
07:48Because you're
07:49Sort of like
07:50You know
07:51Her
07:51Waiting to see
07:52Yeah
07:54No, honestly Tim
07:55As you and John
07:56Were talking just now
07:57I was thinking about
07:58You know
07:59From my perspective
08:00What that was like
08:01With a smaller
08:02With a smaller
08:03Group of people
08:04That we were making
08:04This film
08:06And honestly
08:07I think
08:08It's one thing
08:09To feel safe
08:11On set
08:12I feel like
08:13That's just
08:13The baseline standard
08:15Of like
08:15You know
08:16I feel like
08:16I can do my job
08:17Because I feel
08:18Protected by the people
08:19Around me
08:20It's a whole other thing
08:21To feel like
08:22So much excitement
08:23And joy
08:24To go to work
08:25Because you like
08:26All the people
08:27That you're doing this with
08:28And then it even
08:29Empowers you more
08:31To make choices
08:32And empowers you
08:33To kind of
08:34Stretch yourself
08:34Because you know
08:35That like
08:36Everyone around you
08:37Has your back
08:37And wants to see you succeed
08:39So I just wanted to
08:40Like say that first
08:41Because it made
08:42Even the most
08:43Challenging days
08:44It made
08:45The longest days
08:46It made them
08:47Can I interject
08:48And just ask
08:48What was
08:49Continue with that answer
08:51But what was
08:51A choice
08:52That you made
08:52That maybe
08:53You might not
08:54Have made before
08:55Because you felt
08:56Saved
08:57Because
08:57Because there's
08:58A lot of scenes
08:58Like that
08:59But it's
09:00It's a long time ago
09:01And I understand
09:02No no no
09:02I actually
09:03Two do come to mind
09:04I think
09:05I think three
09:06And they
09:07They were
09:08They were
09:08Later days
09:09I think
09:09In terms of
09:10It might have
09:11Just been me
09:11On the call sheet
09:12For a while
09:12But it was like
09:13As far as I remember
09:14Like me
09:15Lucas
09:16Our AD
09:16Arthur
09:17I'm specifically
09:18John thinking
09:19About the
09:20The police officer
09:21Scene
09:23Which
09:24You know
09:25Like we were
09:26We were
09:26Kind of
09:27Going back and forth
09:28With like
09:29Just ways to portray
09:30Jane being inebriated
09:31And like
09:32How much was too much
09:33Or how
09:34Is it too little
09:36Is it not reading
09:36And I just remember
09:38Thinking like
09:39If it was
09:40Any other group
09:41Of humans
09:41I don't know
09:42If I would feel
09:43As like
09:44Joyful in this moment
09:45Cause it's like
09:46That's a hard thing
09:46To portray
09:47And it's kind of
09:48Scary to think about
09:50Having that happen
09:51You know
09:51But I
09:52I felt
09:53Yeah
09:54Really excited
09:55To do multiple
09:55Takes of that
09:56And like
09:57Kind of color them
09:58Each with a different
09:58Um
10:01Promise
10:01You'll never
10:02Do anything
10:03Like this
10:04Ever again
10:07Do that
10:09I can't
10:11I can't
10:16What do we do
10:17When we fall down
10:18Dr. Root is
10:19Off the ground
10:21You can't be here
10:22Without him
10:25What's going to take
10:25I also think that
10:26If I could just
10:27Interject
10:28Really quickly
10:29Even though we're
10:30I realize now
10:31I'm completely
10:31Going away from
10:32What Tim's original
10:33Question was from you
10:34So sorry
10:34But I was just
10:35Going to interject
10:36Really quick
10:37And say that
10:39I appreciate you
10:40Saying that
10:40Because I think
10:41Because of how
10:42The set was
10:42And kind of
10:43How light it was
10:43And friendly
10:44Everyone was
10:45You know
10:45You were really
10:46Able to do
10:47A lot of things
10:47And experiment
10:48A lot
10:49And I think
10:49That made my job
10:50Really really easy
10:51You know
10:51It made my job
10:52Really really easy
10:53Because you know
10:54A lot of what
10:55I had to do
10:56Was like from
10:56A pre-production
10:57Standpoint
10:57Where it was
10:58Kind of just
10:58A massive amount
10:59Of work for this
10:59Film you know
11:00But when it
11:00Came to actually
11:01Directing
11:02I mean
11:02I really did
11:03Not have to tell
11:04You know
11:04Any of the actors
11:05But Amelia
11:06In particular
11:06I didn't have
11:07To tell her
11:08To do much
11:08Because you know
11:09She just
11:09She knew what
11:10To do
11:11You know
11:11And she was
11:12Able to experiment
11:13And do different
11:14Things and we were
11:15Able to do
11:15Different takes
11:16You know
11:16And so
11:17I think that
11:17That was
11:18Just terrific
11:19As well
11:19And yeah
11:19You were great
11:20Amelia
11:20To answer
11:21The second part
11:22Of your question
11:22Tim
11:22Of like
11:23Just the
11:24Feeling elated
11:25About
11:25Yeah
11:25I'm stoked
11:26Out of my mind
11:27I'm so excited
11:27I have my
11:28My mom and dad
11:29Are coming
11:29My sister's
11:30Coming from
11:30New York
11:31Because I flew in
11:32From New York
11:33Today actually
11:34And then
11:35My brother
11:35And his wife
11:36Are coming
11:37We're all
11:37So pumped
11:38To see it
11:39And yeah
11:40I cannot tell
11:41You like
11:42And he's
11:43Going to get
11:43Annoyed
11:44But I would
11:44Be remiss
11:45If I didn't
11:45Say this
11:46But John
11:47Has just
11:47Actually worked
11:48So so
11:50Flipping hard
11:50And he just
11:52Like this film
11:54Deserves this
11:55Completely
11:56And fully
11:56And I can
11:57Tell you
11:58From a
11:58First-hand
11:59Experience
11:59How much
12:00Like care
12:01Was put
12:01Into it
12:01And how much
12:03There was not
12:04A moment
12:04Where I didn't
12:05Feel like
12:05John's head
12:06Was in
12:07In the project
12:09And yeah
12:10So I'm just
12:10Really pumped
12:11About that
12:11And I'm really
12:12Proud of John
12:12And I'll see you
