00:00:39It's not as prophetic as the others

00:00:44It's not as revealing as some

00:00:47And yet, by doing so, they miss one of the most profoundly prophetic stories

00:00:54Ever recorded

00:00:56It's the story of Ruth

00:00:58And of Boaz

00:01:00And how they emerged and were brought to the fore by Yahweh

00:01:05For the express purpose of saving

00:01:10Israel from itself

00:01:11The country was engaged

00:01:13In a bitter civil war over the most decadent and destructive

00:01:22Abusive encounter ever recorded

00:01:25In the Torah or Prophets

00:01:27It is the deadly rape of a woman

00:01:30And then her dismemberment leading to civil war

00:01:35And the story of Ruth and Boaz is the remedy for all of that

00:01:39But beyond that, of course

00:01:41It is the story of the kinsman redeemer

00:01:45And of the Amma

00:01:46And of God speaking through and working through these two individuals

00:01:54To save Israel from itself

00:01:57It is a tender love story

00:01:59But it is also a powerful prophetic revelation

00:02:04On the way into town

00:02:07It was Ruth who uttered one of the most memorable lines in world history

00:02:14Ruth said

00:02:15It is not in your best interest

00:02:18To plead with me

00:02:20To abandon you

00:02:21Or to return from following you to the very end

00:02:26This is because

00:02:28Where you go

00:02:29I will go

00:02:31Where you abide

00:02:32I will live

00:02:34Your people are my family

00:02:37And your God

00:02:38Is my God

00:02:40God

00:02:42It was

00:02:43Profound

00:02:44Of course

00:02:45It was prophetic

00:02:47Quite possibly the most powerful pronouncement

00:02:50Any woman

00:02:52Has ever made

00:02:53It is absolutely worth our undivided attention

00:02:59She knew that if

00:03:01Naomi, the person she was speaking to

00:03:03Did not

00:03:05Pay attention to what she was saying

00:03:07That it would be over for

00:03:08For not just Naomi

00:03:11But for every woman

00:03:13In Israel

00:03:15And not just at that moment

00:03:16For all time

00:03:21It would also be over

00:03:23For the men of Israel

00:03:26As their attitude was as obnoxious

00:03:29As was Naomi's

00:03:31And so

00:03:32She said

00:03:33It is not in your interest to do this

00:03:37Because

00:03:38Ultimately

00:03:38I will go where you go

00:03:40I will live where you love

00:03:43Your people

00:03:44Are my people

00:03:45And your God

00:03:48Is my God

00:03:53Prophetic

00:03:54Powerful

00:03:56For the benefits of the relationship

00:14:00And that would be shocking if it was not also indicative of Israelis at this very moment

00:14:08If it were not for recognizing the prophetic implications of Naomi

00:14:13Accusing Shadeh of Ra'ah mistreating her in a malignant manner cursing God as evil

00:14:22I may have walked away from this book at this point

00:14:25Saying you know I don't really need the aggravation of another malcontent Israeli

00:14:31This is among the worst statements a Yehud has ever made pertaining to God

00:14:38And it follows one of the most powerful and beautiful a woman has ever made in favor of God

00:14:46What a contrast between Ruth and Israel

00:14:53And while it makes it worse not better to view it prophetically

00:14:59The impugning Jews of yesterday and today

00:15:02At least the degrading comments serve a purpose

00:15:07Juxtaposed against Ruth's soaring oratory

00:15:10We find the Moabite saving Israel's

00:15:15From themselves

00:15:20So as this story progresses

00:15:22Ruth will actually lift

00:15:25Naomi's troubled soul out of the gutter

00:15:28But for now

00:15:30She was still wallowing in her delusions and antagonism

00:20:13Having abandoned her people during a difficult time

00:20:17In most cultures

00:20:18She would have been rejected

00:20:20She'd have been thrown out on her ear

00:20:25However, that was not the case

00:20:27And likely because of the influence of the city's

00:20:32Most influential man

00:20:35Perhaps the second most influential man in the history

00:20:38Of Yisrael

00:20:40Maybe even the world

00:20:43That man's name is Boaz

00:20:47Clearly some were confused by the return of a childless

00:20:51Aging widow

00:20:52With a

00:20:54Malcontent

00:20:55Disposition

00:20:56And others were

00:20:59Concerned with Naomi

00:21:01Aggravating the situation

00:21:02By blaming God

00:21:04For her troubles

00:21:07Nevertheless

00:21:07She was received magnanimously in Bethlehem

00:21:11And that is a story worth celebrating

00:21:15Her return under these circumstances

00:21:18Would not have played out this way

00:21:21Anywhere else on the planet

00:21:24Particularly at this time

00:21:25And it would not have occurred

00:21:27Without the influence

00:21:31Of Boaz

00:21:32There's a reason his name

00:21:35And only his name

00:21:38Appears on Yahweh's home
