00:0096 Peter Rabbit sculptures are now on display across Newcastle and North Tyneside as part of St Oswald Hospice's latest
00:07public art trail.
00:09The installation stretches across streets, parks and public spaces, inviting residents and visitors to explore the collection before it closes
00:16on the 14th of September.
00:19Well, I've got my map and I've got my phone and I'm about to sort the trail. Wish me luck!
00:26A good character that was going to bring joy to the North East and one that people really recognised.
00:34So when we were approached with Peter Rabbit, we just thought that that was just a joyful, fun character that
00:40could be brought to the streets of Newcastle and North Tyneside.
00:43So we hopped to it. It just captures the hearts of the community.
00:49So it's bringing some joy to the community and also it raises vital funds for the hospice.
00:56So they're on the streets for nine to ten weeks, but then they actually all go to auction at the
01:03end of the trail.
01:04So that raises a huge amount for the hospice.
01:07There are other elements that also raise money for the hospice throughout the trail.
01:10We have our trail HQ at the space in Oosburn. So that's our retail space where you can pick up
01:16trail merchandise.
01:17You can pick up your map, but you can also pick up new to this trail as our sticker book.
01:25The trail called Peter Rabbit, Tales on the Tyne is St. Oswald Hospice's fourth major public art project.
01:31It was officially launched at Newcastle Civic Centre where the final sculpture, Golden, was unveiled.
01:37The artwork was designed by young people from the Bossy Community Youth Centre in Walker, working with artist Tommy Anderson
01:44to bring their ideas to life.
01:47So this one is one of our headline partners, Newcastle City Council have worked with the Farr Centre.
01:53So a youth club where the children have actually worked with an artist called Bethan Laker to come up with
01:59their best summer ever theme.
02:00And Bethan worked with the children to come up with this amazing colourful design.
02:06And this one actually goes back to the community rather than going to auction.
02:10The joy when children see one of the Peter Rabbit sculptures.
02:14So they might have got involved in their school and they've done mini sculptures.
02:18But when you go out in the trail and just watch people and their reaction to the Peter Rabbit is
02:24just beautiful.
02:24I would download the app and I would get one of our paper maps.
02:29And if you want to make it even more fun, I would get a sticker book as well.
02:32And then you can tick them off as you go along, pop the app code in and see the special
02:36rewards that pop up on some of them too.
02:40Well, that's the last one ticked off.
02:42It is quite the workout and I think I'll have to sharpen my map reading skills.
02:45The sculptures will remain on display until the 14th of September, giving visitors several more weeks to discover the artworks
02:53across Newcastle and North Tyneside as the trail continues through the summer.
