00:00Hi, my name is Christine and this is Kai. Welcome to our renovated Sweet Digs.
00:06Before you come in, please take off your shoes and subscribe below.
00:10Okay, come in.
00:11I live here with my husband Ben, my son Kai, and my dog Epic,
00:17and we've been living here for a year and a half.
00:22We live in the border of Dumbo and Vinegar Hill.
00:26Before the renovation, this apartment was a three-bedroom apartment.
00:30The renovation cost us $50,000 and that included hiring a contractor, an architect,
00:39a sprinkler engineer, also decorating the entire apartment.
00:46So this is our kitchen.
00:49My favorite part about the kitchen is the sink facing the room.
00:53When we are washing dishes, we can watch TV or watch Kai playing on the mat.
00:59I am Korean, so I like to cook lots of Korean food, but also lots of Italian food.
01:06One of my favorite things to cook is wild mushroom pappadelle.
01:11I am an experiential event designer.
01:14I design spaces for pop-ups and product launches.
01:19I took this renovation as one of my work projects.
01:23I created the floor plan, renderings, and had a design deck which had a lot of options and inspiration images.
01:32This is our living room.
01:35The living room was half of this current size.
01:38There used to be a wall over there that was our third bedroom.
01:43The dining room area and the living room area was pretty small,
01:47so we wanted to open it up to make a larger common space.
01:52First was the demo of the walls.
01:55We had to relocate the sprinklers.
01:58In the beginning of the renovation, I was pregnant with Kai.
02:02I was in first trimester.
02:04We actually moved into the space while the renovation was happening.
02:08That was very hard.
02:10When I was designing the space, I knew the couch will be sitting in the middle of the room,
02:15so I wanted it to have a really pretty back and sit low to the ground.
02:22The couch is from the Croft House, which is only located in California.
02:26They didn't have a showroom here, so we couldn't really do the comfort test.
02:31Luckily, Ben had a business trip out to LA, so he was able to sit on it.
02:37It passed the comfort test, and we were able to bring it home.
02:41I love having plants in our home.
02:44Its shape and colors really bring life to our space.
02:49The most sentimental item in this space would be my cello.
02:54My mom got it for me when I was eight, so that's many, many, many years ago.
02:59This is my son Kai's bedroom.
03:03The only change we made was to relocate the door location.
03:07It used to face where the living room is, but we closed it off and made the door face the
03:13hallway.
03:13The theme of the room really started from our baby moon in Morocco.
03:18The rug really set the tone for the rest of the room with its colors and the textures.
03:26For baby room, we didn't really want to spend too much money, so we mixed high and low cost items.
03:33The investment piece, like the pullout bed, we got it from Pottery Barn, but the rest of the items are
03:40from Ikea, H&M, Urban Outfitters, and Anthropologie Home section.
03:45This room has the most expensive and valuable art pieces, and that would be these two done by Kai.
03:53I framed them with the frames from West Elm.
03:56They look like million bucks.
03:58This is our master bedroom.
04:01The only renovation we did to this room was adding the bookshelf to the wall.
04:06There was a space right next to the entrance, so I wanted to utilize its height and add more storage
04:14space.
04:15My favorite part of this room is the gallery wall.
04:19It has all the photos from our trip that I took.
04:23Some of the photos of us were taken by the local photographers that we hire when we travel.
04:29It's a really great way to meet the locals, but also see the local spots.
04:36We have two bathrooms.
04:38One is out in the hallway and one's in our master bedroom.
04:43I like the bathrooms a lot because I didn't have to do a lot of work.
04:47It already came in like pristine condition.
04:50In our first apartment together, the bathroom was so tiny I could just spread my arms and touch the walls
04:59in the bathroom, so our current bathrooms are a huge step up.
05:04I would love our next apartment to have true three bedrooms and an outdoor space for Kai and Epic to
05:13run around.
05:17In the beginning, we were really scared to do a renovation since it's our first renovation,
05:24but once we went through the process and once it was all done, I feel like it's totally worth it.
05:30Or sold the hardships.
05:31This is Kai's first home and it will always have a special place in our heart.
