00:36liked her, and decided to stay back and catch a ride home with one of the hundreds of other
00:40boats on that shoreline. Nolan was last confirmed seen at the northwest tip of the island at about
00:453 p.m. in blue swim trunks and sunglasses. Sheriff John Ledbetter, summarizing dozens of interviews,
00:51said he chose to stay on the island, assuming he'd ride back with someone else.
00:54Jackson County Chancery Judge Ashley Cole, whose son Warren was on that boat,
00:59stated publicly that Nolan made a decision to stay and return with another group and that her
01:03son had cooperated fully. Then the young woman spoke. According to Crump, she called Katie in
01:13family statements, said Nolan told her he was heading back to the boat with the boys.
01:17So did Nolan choose to stay behind, or was he heading back to a boat that left without him?
01:22Even now, the two accounts have not been reconciled. Although there is an innocent version claiming that

03:54The body that reappeared. One of the biggest questions in the Nolan Wells case is where his
04:00body was found. Crews covered that shoreline on July 5 and found nothing. However, on the morning of
04:05July 6, he was floating in it. Boats, drones, volunteers, and deputies worked the island and
04:10the surrounding water throughout July 5. At about 8.45 the next morning, a park ranger found Nolan
04:16just off the northwestern tip, the same corner where he was last seen alive. Crump asked the obvious
04:21question, why would it not appear until July 6? There is a second half to this one. That island was
04:26nowhere near empty. A local charter captain estimated 500 to 800 boats around it that day.
04:32I mean, roughly, probably 2 to 3, maybe even 4,000 people out there. There were boats lined up
04:39off the island. And the stretch where their own group tied up was packed on its own.
04:43I mean, there was easily 1,000 people. It wasn't just us. A strong swimmer and elite-level athlete
04:50went under in the middle of that, and not one person reported seeing it happen. Both halves have answers,
04:56drowning victims whose lungs feel typically sink, then resurface days later as decomposition gases build,
05:01faster in warm July water, so a body missed on day 1 appearing on day 2 is not unusual,
05:06and real drowning is silent. The coroner and area captains describe the western tip as genuinely
05:11dangerous, with fast currents and steep drop-offs that can pull a person out of water that looked
05:15waist-deep. The islands also carry a documented history of drownings. Coroner Bruce Lind reported
05:21no immediate signs of injury, and because of the body's exposed condition, it went to the state
05:26medical examiner rather than being handled locally. That autopsy was performed on July 7,
05:31and toxicology is still outstanding. The family commissioned an independent autopsy in Washington,
05:36funded in part by Colin Kaepernick, to look for what a drowning wouldn't explain,
05:39with preliminary findings set for release July 22. That autopsy is one way to answer it,

05:50Thousands of people, thousands of cameras, and not one confirmed image of Nolan after 3pm two videos

06:02timestamp 2 23pm, a man stands on a back deck, bending over, reaching for something. His face never
06:08appears. The man who shot it took it to the sheriff's office anyway, because the swim trunks match the
06:13pair Nolan wears in the July 4 photo everyone has now seen.

07:01filmed it told TMZ it wasn't a fight involving Wells. He'd posted it hoping someone might recognize Nolan,
07:08after he went missing. So the clip that launched the foul play theories may have nothing to do with him,

07:17problem underneath all of it. Some material circulating about the case has been AI generated.
07:23Investigators are still asking for original, unedited photos and video from the Northwest
07:27tip that day. Everything so far is about the hours before he went missing. The last detail is about the
07:34hours after, the only stretch documented to the minute. The 13 hour gap
07:39The first call went in at 11pm. The helicopter went up after noon the following day. A friend
07:45called the Coast Guard at about 11pm on July 4 to report a missing person near Horn Island.
07:50That was the first official report. At 12.22am, Christine Wensley called the Jackson County
07:56Sheriff's Department, having already called Ocean Springs Police and the Department of Marine Resources,
08:01because nobody was certain who held jurisdiction. Federal assets didn't move until 12.26pm on July 5,
08:08when the Sheriff's Office formally requested Coast Guard assistance. An MH-65 Dolphin and Sea
08:14assets went out. A command post opened at Lake Mars Boat launch at 5.54pm. 13 hours sit between
