00:00Hi!
00:08Hey guys, Mi-Anne here, beauty waiter at Refire29.
00:11And I am here at Run to NYC with my friend Alice.
00:14And we're about to get a three-hour Japanese manicure.
00:19Are you ready?
00:20I'm so ready.
00:21Should we go inside?
00:22Yes!
00:29I'm thinking I want like Sailor Moon inspired nails.
00:32Yes, I think you should do that too because, you know, it's quite cute for this season,
00:38even though it's already winter.
00:40For a Sailor Moon look, you will have to get this kind of colors, right?
00:46Yeah.
00:46I think I want to go with like the shimmery pale pink one, like something like this.
00:51Yeah, but just to let you know those are from last year.
00:55Because they have like collections, you know, collections of colors.
01:00But that one is actually really cute.
01:03You're going to pick your best colors, right?
01:07And then you'll give Midori the freedom of...
01:10I'm giving Midori the freedom to like art direct to the rest of my nails.
01:14Yes.
01:14Because I know that she knows the vibe I want.
01:19In America, girls want a design that kind of just like goes well with every kind of look.
01:26They don't want their nails to stand out.
01:29They want to, you know, maybe emphasize their outfit.
01:33In Japan, girls, they always have their nails done.
01:36And, you know, and if you do that often, it really kills your own nails.
01:43But Japanese materials, for example, the acrylic, the coating material,
01:49it really preserves my own nails as much as possible.
01:56Here's what I have so far.
01:58My first time with acrylic.
02:01Midori, my technician, used powder.
02:03It's a very strange feeling, but I like it.
02:06I feel like very glamorous.
02:09For me, every day is like a performance arts piece.
02:14My parents, they just can't understand what's the relationships of me with everything that I'm pursuing.
02:21How long ago did you start wearing with all the color and start doing your nails this way?
02:25Well, you know, I always loved Japanese culture since I was young.
02:30But while I was living in China, I didn't have all this freedom of, you know,
02:36do all this kind of experiments on myself.
02:39I only got the chance to do it after I moved to the United States when I was 17.
02:52I think New York is the right place for me to be who I am.
03:02In Japanese nail industry, I realized they have different collections.
03:06They have different trends, just like what we have in the clothing industry.
03:11I just feel like Japanese people, they try to be creative.
03:16And I think Japanese nail art follows that idea.
03:25It's fabulous.
03:31Did you have fun?
03:32I did have a lot of fun.
03:33Thank you so much for showing me this place.
03:35Yeah, of course.
03:36I had no idea it even existed.
03:37Now I want to go do something cool with these.
03:40Got a boy. That too.
03:41Now you've seen what a three-hour manicure looks like.
