00:03I like to pierce on the one single exhale.
00:12Most of it is all in your head.
00:19Pain is temporary.
00:21Vanity is forever.
00:23My mom has this thing where her grandma would always tell her,
00:26if God wanted a hole on your body, he would have put it there.
00:29Just to get my ears pierced, I had to wait until I was in 10th grade,
00:34and I begged for them.
00:36My name is Melissa, and I'm getting a nose piercing today.
00:39So I have both ears pierced, but two holes on this side.
00:42I had my cartilage done, my nose done, and my belly button.
00:47I had my nose piercing for a little over a year,
00:50but I kind of got tired of where the piercing was placed.
00:53I really love wearing hoops, and mine hung way too low for me.
00:57I'm definitely looking forward to going to someone
00:58who knows what they're doing.
01:00Clean you up, mark you up, and then pierce you up.
01:04My name is Brian Thompson. I own Body Electric.
01:07I've been piercing about 10 years now.
01:09My commanding officer was to see me now.
01:12He would say I was an idiot, you know.
01:13This is not in Marine Corps regulation except for my haircut.
01:17That's what drew me to tattooing and piercing,
01:19is that I could manipulate and change my body the way I wanted to.
01:22Nobody had a say in it.
01:26There's two sides of piercing.
01:27There's the actual physical act of piercing,
01:30and then there's decorating, knowing where to put it.
01:34I am a decorator.
01:37Placement is definitely important when it comes to piercing.
01:40When you get a piercing done, it shapes your face.
01:43If it's in a weird spot, you might feel uncomfortable,
01:47and you might feel like you look weird.
01:51I don't myself use a piercing gun.
01:53That's not to say that the gun doesn't work.
01:55It does.
01:56But me, if I'm going to decide,
01:58I'm going to get pierced with a needle every single day.
02:01I'm not going to use the gun.
02:03When the piercing gun is used,
02:05it is basically using blunt force trauma.
02:08It is taking a stud that is fastened to a point,
02:15and using the spring-loaded force of that gun
02:19to puncture it through your earlobe.
02:31You're going to see the fibers eject from the backside
02:35where the actual jewelry exits.
02:41That's happening to your ear as well.
02:59Right after you pierced, you're going to have more swelling.
03:03Inflammation causes pain,
03:04so then you're going to have more pain.
03:06It's going to take longer to heal,
03:08especially if you have sensitive skin.
03:11Now, a puncture is going to heal slower than a cut.
03:18A needle may be round, but it's still cutting.
03:21It's basically like a circular, tiny little scalpel.
03:29The piercing needle,
03:31it's one mission on this planet is to do what?
03:37Pierce the body.
03:44A piercing needle, it's hollow.
03:46It pierces quicker and without any kind of drag.
03:49It doesn't remove any tissue.
03:52It just kind of opens a space.
04:01Right now, I'm just setting up a little bit of ink for marking,
04:05sterile lubricant, and a little bit of soap for scrubbing.
04:08When I get set up to pierce, nothing is pre-sterilized.
04:12I do it all while you wait.
04:14Gauze, the needle, jewelry, toothpick I use for marking.
04:19Everything runs through this machine.
04:20It needs to be this button.
04:22There we go.
04:23Once it's complete, I bring the client back.
04:34That's when we pierce.
04:36All right.
04:37So what I'm going to do is get lined up.
04:38Once I am, I'm going to have you take a big, deep breath.
04:41Okay?
04:41In through your nose.
04:43Slow and concentrated.
04:44Out through your mouth.
04:45Out through your mouth.
04:46Okay?
04:47Your right eye's going to water.
04:48Okay.
04:49Just let it happen.
04:51And try a deep breath all in.
04:54All out.
04:57I like to pierce on the one single exhale.
05:02Deep breath in.
05:04Exhale.
05:07That's when I pierce.
05:09First, it's a sharp pinch.
05:14You have a lot of nerve endings on your nostril.
05:17It's a very sharp pinch, but it subsides very rapidly.
05:28The next is you're going to feel warmth in the area.
05:32Blood is rushing to the area.
05:33The eye immediately waters.
05:49Alright.
06:05Hello, the besondere node is missing a glass of my fingers.
06:08I'll show you the most famous references for the wholeiest Senhorθεти
06:08or gracious ones to use.
06:10Oh, no.
06:11I can't hold someone in the air like this, but I'll whisper in the hand.
06:12Your glass will look up either most of you in touch.
06:12Cool.
06:17TheYE3 is working here.
06:17This is a clean morning because we've got partnered with the blueberries.
06:20Well done, my dear.
06:22So when you're getting your nose pierced, it happens quickly.
06:25It's a pinch, and it's anticipation that makes it feel like it's going to be a lot worse,
06:30but it isn't.
06:32Everybody's eye waters, even Bruce Lee.
06:33If he got his nose pierced, his eye would have watered too.
06:36If you build it up and make it about the negativity of the pain, then I think you're going about
06:42it all wrong.
06:42You should look at it in a positive light.
06:44Can I do this?
06:46A slight change made such a big difference.
06:48He moved it up a little bit and to the side, and I think it looks so much better.
06:53If you really want to do it, then sit down and make it happen.
06:57You can always take it out.
06:59Thank you so much for watching.
