00:01Today we are transforming Amber into the iconic Diana Ross.
00:06She looks amazing.
00:07Yeah, it's good.
00:14Today I'm being transformed into the iconic photo by Harry Langdon of Diana Ross.
00:21Big earrings and big hair and big wigs.
00:25That's totally in style again, like Beyonce's doing that now with her outfits and her big wigs.
00:29We're replicating a very specific look.
00:31Disco is really the big theme in this.
00:34Today I get to meet Amber Stevens West and she's currently on the Carmichael Show
00:37and she's also known for her work on 22 Jump Street.
00:43Diana was really known for having high cheekbones.
00:46So we're going to do some contouring.
00:47Are you afraid of that?
00:48No, I love that.
00:49Contour's been around since makeup's been invented.
00:51It's the illusion of adding depth to the face.
00:54I always suggest to have about three foundations, two to three.
00:57Right now I'm laying in some warm colors just to kind of give you that depth and contour of Diana
01:02Ross.
01:04Now I'm highlighting.
01:05I'm just going to go right in the center of the face, right around the eyes.
01:10In the 70s it was kind of signature to have a lot of brightness around the eyes.
01:17A little shimmer on the cheeks.
01:19Ooh, that's shimmering.
01:20Shimmer for a 1970s look is imperative.
01:24I'm going to go ahead and kind of mark out where I want your big eyelid to go.
01:28Diana is really known for this expansive area between her brow and her lash.
01:33You know, it's just that big dreamy eyelid.
01:34And I'm just mixing a few of the lighter colored concealers.
01:37And I'm just going to lay the lid.
01:39So now over the light color I'm applying a pearly shadow.
01:43The idea is to make the eyes pop to make them look super huge and Bambi-like.
01:47Right underneath the brows where I'm going to put the highlight spots.
01:50Very 1970s.
01:52I'm going to start adding some color to it.
01:55A little plum.
01:56I'm just going to put right where the contour and the crease ends.
02:01Let's move into some white eyeliner because this is one of the key ingredients in this look.
02:06I'm just going to run this along the waterline of your eye.
02:09So I've never put white eyeliner in my eye before because I already have such gigantic eyes that even I
02:15get self-conscious.
02:17Diana Ross is so well known for her giant eyes and then just enhancing them.
02:21I love that she owns it.
02:22All right.
02:23I'm ready for some eyelashes.
02:25You know, this is 1975.
02:26This is the beginning of the disco era.
02:28So more lashes, more glimmering shimmer, more depth.
02:34So I'm going with a little bit of black eyeliner.
02:36Woo!
02:37Just over the lashes.
02:39A lot of girls in the 70s and the 60s did this.
02:42So it looks like you've got big bottom lashes and actually it's just a little illusion of painting dots.
02:48All right.
02:50Now let's move on to lips.
02:52I'm using a liquid lipstick which is kind of a nice trend that's happening in makeup.
02:57It's also nice to put your lip liner on after your lip color and you don't get an overly lined
03:02lip.
03:02It looks great.
03:04Now it is time for you to get Miss Ross all the way.
03:07We're going to put this afro on you.
03:08You can't do the 70s without some big afro hair.
03:11I'm excited to see like how big it is and what it looks like on me.
03:15If it's going to look natural.
03:16Because on her it looks natural.
03:17It doesn't look like she's in a wig.
03:18Now it's time for the big reveal.
03:20Insert drum roll.
03:23And...
03:24Oh my god!
03:25This is everything.
03:27It looks good.
03:29This is everything.
03:29It looks good.
03:30Oh, it's so cool!
03:32Yeah, it looks great.
03:35Diana Ross was the first, you know, black woman in music and entertainment history to really set herself apart and
03:42be so iconic.
03:43I'd like to say she was pre-Yonce.
03:45Right there.
03:46A lot of those style concepts are still very much part of today's culture.
03:50False eyelashes, big giant hair, disco effects are timeless.
03:54So much fun.
03:55Oh my god.
03:55I just love this so much.
03:56Our shoot has been a success.
03:59Amber could not have played this off better.
04:02Hooray!
04:03Thank you so much.
04:03Thank you!
04:06This was Throwback Thursday.
04:07I got transformed into Diana Ross.
04:09Yes.
04:10Miss Ross.
04:11I'm taking you home with me.
04:12And this wig.
04:13Do you have white wine?
04:15Yes.
04:15I'm coming over.
04:16Hahaha.
04:19I'm coming over.
04:20I'm coming over, man.
04:22I'm coming over.
04:23He's gonna go brown.
04:23I'm coming over.
