00:02Thousands of young people in India continued to protest on Thursday in what has been dubbed
00:08the Kokroch protest, sparked by a scandal involving elite exams. Demonstrators who were met on Thursday
00:15with tear gas, water cannons and batons by police are demanding the resignation of India's
00:22education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, as well as examination system reforms and compensation
00:28for the families of students who died by suicide after the exam paper leaks.
00:34There have been resignations taken all the way down when things have not gone or, you know, done the way
00:41they should be.
00:42So we deserve the accountability we need and we want the government to give the compensation to the families
00:48who have been, you know, who have lost their sons and children.
00:52In response, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the issue on Thursday,
00:58calling for fast-track courts to handle examination paper leak cases.
01:04The movement has gained a wider following among Indians over government accountability,
01:09unemployment and economic opportunity.
01:12The over-a-month-long protests are considered one of Prime Minister Modi's government's biggest challenges yet.
