00:00hi daryl how are you hello boys happy rookies report to camp day oh it's a biggie daryl
00:08no the biggie is next week when the veterans report on tuesday and then they actually
00:12do something on the field one day afternoon can't wait daryl can't wait i can sense the
00:21enthusiasm jeff okay so what actually happens when the rookies report well they go through their uh
00:27you know their camp orientation stuff and then they start uh hitting the field for uh some light
00:34workouts and obviously they got to pass their physicals as well so that's all you know part of
00:40the process today they do the intake and the physicals and all those type of things and i
00:44don't know if todd's going to do a conditioning test most coaches do so i would anticipate that
00:50he would do the same and uh you know that's how we end up with the you know we get
00:55those uh
00:56designations for a couple of guys well we get those designations early in camp right guys that
01:02aren't able to practice just yet and whatnot so um but yeah they'll go through their uh their intake
01:09processes and and probably do their conditioning tests and all that and uh start getting themselves
01:14on the field to uh get some work in daryl writer with us and when daryl's with us he's brought
01:20to us
01:20by shivan jewelers cleveland's premier jewelry store uh two of the guys in this rookie group
01:26daryl that i don't know that we're talking about enough yet and i'm real curious about them
01:31parker brailsford austin barber and where are they going to fit on the offensive line do you think
01:38parker can start is there any chance that that austin gets moved to a guard spot and and maybe becomes
01:45a starter well i i think austin's uh probably in the developmental uh chain right now uh but parker
01:53look i mean he's a rather important cog to this whole thing um as far as that uh center position
02:00because if he can't win that job that means elton jackins has to be the center uh and he's he's
02:06better
02:06at it right guard so there's a little bit of a domino effect there so i would agree with you
02:12jeff i
02:13parker is really important uh in this camp to see if he can win that starting uh center job and
02:20i i think
02:21if you gave andrew berry and maybe even todd munkin some true serum they would probably tell you they
02:27would they would like to see parker win that uh center job so that there isn't a domino effect that
02:35will
02:35uh would then occur on that offensive line but um you know if jenkins has to play center then now
02:44you have a competition at the right guard spot uh and and so you know there there is a bit
02:52of a
02:52domino effect uh that occurs so um i think uh of the two names you mentioned there jeff i think
02:59parker's
02:59the most critical uh as far as the offensive line conversation goes right now because really
03:06the other four the other four names are spoken for the other you know those those four other
03:10sports are you know spoken for so it's just a matter who's going to be the starting center
03:14and then that's going to determine what that right guard spot is going to look like all right daryl you
03:18talked about conditioning tests but we've seen in the past especially when you have a lot of veterans
03:23that it's camp cupcake and the team doesn't ever seem ready when they get to the beginning of the season
03:28and you and i think in particular have probably had this conversation every year based on what right
03:34based on whatever the head coach wants to instill in his players how will and i think we've kind of
03:40seen it already and i might know the answer but i just want to hear it from you how will
03:45todd
03:45munkin run this and how far away from camp cupcake will it be yeah i don't think todd munkin's gonna
03:52be
03:52running a camp cupcake that's for sure and look kevin stefanski tried to toughen it up last year a
03:57little bit as well uh with some live tackling periods that was uh contrary to what he had done
04:05in his previous years he did not run live periods in camp they did what's called footing up where you
04:11just you you pop the pads but that's it everybody stays up not to the ground yeah yeah you know
04:18you
04:18keep off the ground but um the steelers always are live in training camp i know the ravens have a
04:25history of being live uh in training camp or in training camp and i look my anticipation is that
04:32todd munkin will have them in pads and doing as much as the rules will allow him to do uh
04:40as a head
04:40coach so this is not going to be an easy training camp by any stretch of the imagination obviously you
04:45have your acclimation period there uh you know the first week or so of camp uh you know practices start
04:51out short and then they start uh adding uh minutes each day to the length of the practices but that's
04:56all collectively bargained and then you know be a part of uh you know uh league rules there but yeah
05:02yeah i think todd munkin's going to have him as have him in pads as much as he's allowed and
05:08then also
05:08to uh i think we will see some live tackling periods daryl barring injury is there any way that your
05:15top
05:15three wide receiver group isn't jerry judy casey concepcion and denzel boston yeah no those those are
05:25my top three and uh i don't think the impact or potential impact i should say and importance of
05:32both casey concepcion and denzel boston uh can be uh overstated enough um they are going to uh not only
05:40see a lot of time but they are going to be leaned on quite frankly um you know jerry judy
05:46will be the
05:46one just be he's the veteran of the group but um that is why the browns used the first and
05:53second
05:54round picks on those two players to um give them an infusion of talent in that room because let's
06:02be honest about it and jeff your favorite conversation to have with me during football
06:07season is about every wide receiver that hits the waiver wire and whether or not the browns should
06:12bring them in because their room just isn't good enough right i mean and it's been that way for
06:18you know for a little bit now uh and even going back to odell beckham jr and jarvis landry they
06:24were
06:24pretty top heavy in that room and there just wasn't a lot of depth there so um those three players
06:31then
06:31you know harold fannin jr uh i consider a top receiving target as well even though he's not
06:37in the room he's a tight end but uh you you include him uh samson coming out of the backfield
06:43that's a fifth target so uh there's going to be plenty of qualified targets for these quarterbacks
06:48to be throwing to this year and i think that that's why um aside from how todd munkin has run
06:56this to
06:56date uh the fact that he's got the you know these guys have some quality receivers to throw the football
07:03to i think we're going to get a more even uh quarterback competition than maybe we've had
07:08in years past with some of these competitions because quite frankly the the supporting cast
07:13around them you know hasn't been all that great and it becomes an even tougher evaluation well i i think
07:19that uh with the supporting cast around these quarterbacks i think you're going to be able to get
07:24at least a fair evaluation of these quarterbacks uh as they go through their competition
07:31daryl how many of these quarterbacks will be in that quarterback room when the season starts
07:35the four guys i think they'll yeah i i think that there'll be three on the active roster um i
07:42i don't
07:42know that andrew berry is going to be able to keep four quarterbacks on the 53 man roster um
07:49and uh you know i i i kind of feel like dylan gabriel's the odd man out just by default
07:55here
07:55because you're not waving green uh someone's going to pick him up in the blink of an eye so you
07:59don't
08:00want to risk that uh and then obviously you've got uh shudor and and deshawn one will be the starter
08:05one will be the backup is any would anyone trade for dylan gabriel right i mean i i don't know
08:11i mean i
08:12i don't get the sense that there's a robust trade market for him right now but things do happen in
08:18the
08:18nfl uh when it comes to quarterback rooms across the league and unfortunately there are injuries
08:23and whatnot so maybe one could develop um i you know i don't know maybe they wave him and put
08:29him
08:30on the practice squad um you know but uh yeah i mean i i just i don't know that they
08:36have room
08:36to keep four quarterbacks on this roster um maybe they do you know maybe andrew berry says we're
08:43going to keep four guys because history tells us we need three and four guys to get through a
08:4717 game uh schedule and and quite frankly i i'm not going into this training camp with the
08:53expectation that whoever wins the quarterback job is going to be the starting quarterback come week
09:0018 of the season and and i'm basing that mostly on just the team's history um they very rarely are
09:07able to get through a full schedule with just one starting quarterback so i think it stands to reason
09:11that you have an expectation at some point that there's going to be change either because of
09:16performance or unfortunately because of injury because that's usually how it always goes here so
09:20um you know i don't have an expectation that again your week one starter in jacksonville is who you're
09:27going to be wrapping up the season with there uh in in week 18 so they may need uh you
09:32know they
09:32andrew berry may say hey we need to keep four active quarterbacks uh on this roster i i don't again
09:39i
09:39you know i think we need to get a little deeper into into camp here and and see how things
09:44are
09:44unfolding um you know before you know trying to figure out whether or not they have that luxury
09:50or not uh and also to seeing you know so you know some some other position groups and how
09:56they're shaking out where does andrew berry need a little extra depth on the roster and whatnot and
10:01hey if everything goes swimmingly and and they're comfortable with the the depth and all the uh position
10:06rooms and they say hey we can go ahead and and fit four quarterbacks on that 53 then you know
10:13sure they they certainly can do it but yeah i mean right now i i i don't think anyone's really
10:18lining up to to trade for dylan gabriel and yeah i could see the only place i can kind of
10:22see it is if
10:23something went sideways with with michael panics or two uh and uh kevin safanski wanted to bring
10:28another quarterback down to atlanta that's the i would think that would be the hottest pipeline for him
10:32again things something what do you get i mean they also have trevor sime in there too oh i don't
10:37know
10:37what maybe a draft pick maybe you can recover the draft pick i don't think you're getting a third round
10:41pick but you're probably getting a seventh right and and i mean let's just be honest about it you
10:46might even have or you might get a six but you have to send dylan with a seventh to get
10:51that six
10:51there's you know because we've seen andrew berry you know work those type of trades too where you
10:56you you do a player with a late round pick but you get in return a a pick one round
11:03in front of
11:03the pick that you're you know sending out so i i i don't i don't know what that trade would
11:08look like
11:09right now and again i don't know that there's much of a robust market for dylan gabriel but i just
11:15look
11:15at this camp right now uh to where i i feel like he's he's number four in line because again
11:21i they're
11:22not going to trade green there was reporting this offseason you know a couple teams in the
11:26asc north were interested in him so you're yeah i don't think you're going to get him you know
11:30through waivers daryl do you think the quarterback job is one on the practice fields or in preseason
11:38games both okay um and and and also the meeting rooms jeff um you know how do these guys uh
11:46come
11:46prepared to work every day uh are they up to speed with what um the coaches uh expect them to
11:54be up
11:54to speed with right i mean that's all part of the process as well in addition to the on the
11:58field
11:59uh performance but you know you gotta you gotta you know show up uh prepared and and and knowledgeable
12:06of what you're working on that particular day uh and then go out on the practice field and execute
12:11and then obviously in the preseason um you know show your ability uh to to run and execute the
12:17offense and look this this offense there's there's a lot on these quarterbacks too this is you know
12:22kevin stefanski tried to dumb some things down in recent years because of all the pre-snap penalties
12:29with motions and things like that uh todd munkin's not holding back um you know he they're they're
12:34running a lot of motion and and throwing a lot of eye candy at defenses and whatnot and if they
12:40mess it up
12:41in practice he stops the play steps in and well it explains in his very unique way how things are
12:47supposed to work on that particular play we've seen it multiple times uh during the offseason program so
12:52um there there's a lot of responsibility on the quarterbacks uh with todd munkin's offense do you
12:58think they could i don't know figure out some kind of weird way to get taylor green in the game
13:03without
13:03i mean maybe a wildcat or even lining him up at a running back i mean he's a big guy
13:08who's really fast
13:09i mean sure i mean i that's always i i think you know maybe a threat that they want to
13:15develop or
13:15whatnot but also too you don't want to you know telegraph that you're up to something when you put
13:19him in the game as well you know what i'm saying so i would imagine that if you put him
13:23in the game
13:24you got to have your regular quarterback on the field right uh or uh the the the the uh the
13:32play
13:32sheet for him uh needs to be rather expansive so again you're not telegraphing what you're doing
13:38when you put him on the field but yeah i i think that that could be a possibility he's very
13:43athletic
13:43he's big and strong as well got a got really good arm talent but uh very very raw uh as
13:50a quarterback
13:51but the browns knew that when they drafted him in the sixth round and uh you know they view him
13:56uh as a bit of a project and a prospect and and so but yeah i i think to maybe
14:01get his feet wet sure
14:03if they have a uh a green package for him uh that they can use in in certain situations and
14:09games i
14:10i would not rule that out daryl rider as always we are going to be following along of social media
14:16for sure 92.3 the fan.com and of course be listening for you and your reports from now until
14:23through the super bowl after the browns win the super bowl good job man yeah if they win the
14:30super bowl i might jump in the lake but uh we'll also have a lot of exciting stuff on our
14:34youtube
14:34channel as well coming up during camp so look forward to uh to that as well sounds great daryl
14:39thank you appreciate you thanks d you bet guys have a good weekend all right he is daryl rider
